Fate Exposed

It seemed like forever before Dr. Mellor let the two words slip from his mouth, “He’s awake”

None of us said a word.

He’s awake could mean a number of things and sadly it does not guarantee that we get to see him. I for one, do not like to get my hopes up.

“So can we go and see him?” Jimmy asked after a long moment of silence.

“Yes, but only a few people at a time,” He said before rewording his sentence, “and by that I mean, two or three people at a time. You can go in and see him whenever you’re ready he’s the first room on the left.”

Dr. Mellor walked back through the double doors and left us to decide.

“Morgan, you should go in first.” Zacky told me.

“No, one of you should go in first, you’re his best friends,” I suggested.

“Are you sure?” Brian asked.

“I’m positive,” I weakly smiled.

Brian, Zacky and Johnny all went in together. Jimmy and I were left behind.

“That was a very generous thing of you to do,” Jimmy told me.

“Thanks” I sighed.

“If I was Matt’s girlfriend I would have bolted through that door as soon as the doctor said he was awake”

I laughed at his comment. I started laughing almost as fast as I stopped. I stopped as I remembered that Matt isn’t technically my boyfriend anymore. Where we left off, we were not exactly on good terms.

“Jimmy?” I asked softly.

“Yeah?”

“What if Matt doesn’t want to see me?”

“Why on earth would he not want to see you?”
“You know.”

“Trust me, Matt wants to see you. You’re not mad at him. He’s not mad at you. You guys had a miscommunication.”

“Okay”

Minutes slowly passed. I watched the door, waiting eagerly for Brian, Zacky and Johnny to walk through. Thought after thought passed through my brain. Now I was even worried that Matt would fall back asleep and I wouldn’t be able to see him.

Soon enough, the doors pushed open and they walked through. Jimmy got up out of his chair and I followed. Brian gave me a weak smile as we passed by. My stomach turned.

When we got to the room, we both waited outside the door before I motioned for Jimmy to go first. He let out a slight laugh.

“Matt!” Jimmy greeted him with arms wide open. I smiled widely and waited my turn, I guess you could say. Times like these were always so awkward no matter how you went about them. Matt looked overly tired. He had bags under his eyes, and his hair was going every which way. There were some scrapes here and there on his face but he was still his unbelievably handsome self.

He turned his head away from Jimmy and towards me. His eyes widened and he slowly spoke, “Morgan”

“Matt” I whispered, fighting to hold back tears. I walked towards his outstretched arms and hugged him tightly. He wrapped his arms around me completely and squeezed slightly. It wasn’t until now that I had realized just how much I missed him. We stayed like that for a couple seconds before I broke the hold and sat in the chair next to the bed. Jimmy was sitting on the opposite side.

“So how are you feeling?” Jimmy asked.

“Okay, given the circumstances,” He shrugged in reply.

“We’re all very relieved that you’re okay,” Jimmy sighed.

Matt and Jimmy continued talking as I sat quietly. I didn’t have a lot to say and I wanted them to visit anyways. I was uneasy about the whole situation.

I zoned out into my own world and after what was apparently an hour, a nurse came in and told us that Matt needed rest because it was late. Jimmy got up to walk out the door and I followed behind.
“Morgan,” Matt whispered behind me.

I turned around on my heels, “yes?”

“Stay.”

“But we just got kicked out,”

“But I want you to stay,” He said as he patted the bed next to him.

I didn’t think twice before I slid into the narrow hospital bed next to him. He tightly wrapped his arms around me and my head was resting on his chest.

“I can’t even begin to tell you how much I’ve missed you,” He mumbled.

“We need to talk,” I sighed.

“What even happened between us?”

“I don’t know, we just kind of ended. Why did you leave Boston so abruptly?” I questioned.

“I was mad about how you handled the whole Andrew situation.” He replied.

“I wanted to move past it.” I shrugged.

“He attempted to murder you.” Matt said firmly, “You can’t just let that go.”

“But I just want everything to be over”

“And I want you to be safe”

“Then why’d you leave.”

“I didn’t make you stay here because I wanted to pick a fight, I made you stay here because I fucking miss you.”

“I know, I didn’t mean to say that. I’m really tense.” I sighed as I shifted my position so that I was just laying next to him.

“I can tell. But hear me out for a second, I just want everything between us to be okay again. I feel like every since the whole misunderstanding in september our relationship has been up in the air. I just want to be on good terms again.” He explained.

“I do too,”

“Then are we?”

“Yes.” I said with complete confidence.

There was an brief moment of silence, so I filled it, “I’m really glad you’re okay. When Jimmy told me what had happened I froze, I was in the middle of Boston and I just couldn’t move because its so close to the anniversary of the accident I was in and-”

“I’m guessing this is why you’re so tense,” He cut me off.

“Yes” I breathed.

“I’m fine and I’m not going anywhere. Besides, I have you to take care of and protect, I couldn’t go anywhere unless of course I go to that somewhere with you”

I weakly smiled.

Matt leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on the side of my face. I took the opportunity and pressed my lips to his as he placed his hand behind my head to deepen the kiss. We stayed like that, our mouths moving in sync for a while before pulling away.

“I missed that more than you could ever know,” Matt whispered.

“I did too”
