Nikki’s P.O.V
I don’t know how I’m going to do this, today is Riley and Matt’s day, everything has to be about them and I can’t be the one to ruin that, but I need to tell someone, I can’t deal with this alone and I don’t want to tell Zacky. Not yet.
Riley’s P.O.V
The month has flown in and it’s already my wedding day, this is all happening so fast but I couldn’t be happier, I have two gorgeous baby boys and an amazing fiancé so why shouldn’t I get married? Everything is falling into place.
I was standing in front of the full length mirror in my old room at dads house looking over myself, my hair was loosely pinned up, my makeup was natural and my dress was gorgeous, it puffed out from the waist down and stopped just above my knees, we’d been dress shopping and I’d fallen in love with it.
I could hear people talking and laughing out back, I looked out the window to see all of the guests arriving, I was glad that this house had a huge back yard and dad had suggested that we have the wedding here, Matt thought it was a great idea too so I agreed and we had a little gazebo set up and decorated with roses which we would get married under.
“Riles?” I heard my mom call from down the hall.
“In here!” I called back, a moment later my bedroom door opened and my mom walked in.
“Oh Riley, you look gorgeous,” She said, tearing up and her voice started to break.
“Hey, no crying,” I told her, turning to face her only to be pulled into a tight hug.
“I’ve always imagined your wedding day, but it never compared to this,”
I could feel myself starting to cry, I didn’t want to ruin my makeup and walk down the makeshift aisle with puffy eyes and a blocked nose.
“What have you got there?” I asked, nodding towards the little box she held in her hands.
“Oh, this,” She held it out in front of her and opened it up, inside was a silver necklace with a little blue diamond “Your father gave this to me the day you were born, rings are usually what moms are supposed to get when they have the first baby, but we weren’t doing things the normal way, we weren’t married, so he bought this instead,”
“Oh mom,” I breathed.
“So, since today is your special day and you don’t have something old or blue I want you to have it,” She turned me around, took it out of the box and put it around my neck “There,”
I smoothed it down and admired it in the mirror.
“It looks better on you than it ever did on me,” She said with a smile.
“Thank you,” I whispered, turning to hug her.
“Riles?” Nikki asked, poking her head through the door.
“Hey,” I smiled “What’s up?”
“I have something for you,” She told me as she walked in, closing the door behind her “Just real quick before we have to get you down there to Matt, he’s going crazy waiting for you,” I just laughed.
“She has her something blue,” Mom told Nikki who was admiring the necklace around my neck.
“And, I want her to have something borrowed, it’s from my family,” She held out her hand and opened it and in her palm was a shiny little sixpence “It’s tradition that it goes to the first daughter who get’s married, and we all class you as family, you’ve always been more of a sister than a friend, it was my idea,”
“What do i-“
“You keep it in your shoe, it brings you good luck on your wedding day,” I sat on the edge of the bed and slipped off my shoe and she slipped it inside before securing the shoe back on my foot.
“I’m going to be giving it back one day, y’know,” I told her and she smiled widely “On your wedding day, it’ll be in your shoe, so as well as it being for good luck, I’m only borrowing it,” I hadn’t realized that the three of us were crying now until mom started wiping my tears away and Nikki sniffed.
“Come on ladies, it’s time,” Lacey announced with a smile from the doorway.
