Promises Broken and Words Left Unspoken

Surprising Setting

Brian’s POV
I woke up to my head throbbing and the sun shining in my eyes. I groaned and went to cover my eyes with my arm just to realize both of my arms were wrapped around a skinny person. I sighed figuring it was Amy and looked down to be met with natural dirty blond hair…which meant it wasn’t Amy. Whoever it was had her face buried in my bare chest. I turned my head away to avoid the evil rays of the sun while scoping out the room. This definitely wasn’t my room. The walls were a crimson color, the trim black. And there were quotes all over the walls in black. Most of them were in black paint, but a few of the more recent looking ones were done in Sharpie.

I decided to read over some of the quotes on the wall in the mean time.

I was thinking to myself, this could be heaven or this could be hell.

I’m the one who’ll stay when she walks away.

I’ll be waiting for you, here inside my heart.

Yes I’ve been brokenhearted, blue since the day we parted.

Maybe it’s best you leave me alone.

When darkness turns to light, it ends tonight.

And then I looked at some of the newer ones in Sharpie.

Anger and agony are better than misery.

I Hate everything about you, why do I love you?

I won’t cry. No I won’t shed a tear. Just as long as you stand, stand by me.

Every move you make. Every vow you break. Every smile you fake. Every claim you stake. I’ll be watching you.

I stopped looking at the quotes from music before looking around the room. On the dresser was a jewelry box, and on the mirror were pictures. One of a guy in uniform and another one. This one was in front of the statue of liberty. It was a girl with dirty blond hair with blue streaks in it that went with her eyes, and a bright smile. Standing next to her was a guy who looked like Tyler and a girl with dark brown hair and happy brown eyes.

When I finally looked back down to the girl in my arms, she changed her positioning so her back was to me and she was facing the window. As I saw her face, there was no question in my mind whose room I was in. I was just bummed out that the sun was in her face, which meant she would wake up soon.

A smile graced my lips as she opened her eyes. She blinked a couple of times before rubbing at them. She looked down at my arms and let out a sigh before tugging at my arms to free herself. I released her and she sat up and got off the bed. I went to sit up and along with the throbbing headache, I began to feel dizzy. I placed my head in my hands and gritted my teeth together. Not even a minute later I felt Madi sit down next to me. She rubbed my back lightly and rested her head on my shoulder. Now that I thought about it, I’ve never felt this shitty after getting wasted.

“Do you want water and an aspirin?” She asked super quietly. I nodded without looking up and bit my lip as she got up to leave. I shivered a bit and finally looked up as she walked back in. She handed me both and I thanked her before downing them. She sat back down next to me as I stared at the floor.

“What happened last night?” I asked quietly. I noticed she looked a little disappointed. I remembered bits and pieces from last night, the rain being part of it.

“Don’t worry about it,” She said softly. “It’s really not important,” she lied as her voice cracked about halfway through it. I looked over and noticed that tears were starting to fall. I made a quick decision and pulled her to me. She didn’t fight it when I pulled her into my lap and rubbed her back.

“What really happened last night?” My voice was soft and gentle. “It had to have been something bad,” She looked up at me as she shook her head. She leaned forward and rested her head on my shoulder. I wasn’t sure if I should speak up or not. I continued to rub her back before kissing the top of her head gently.

She wiped at her eyes as I kept her in place on my lap. I closed my eyes as some of last night played in my head. I held her to me knowing she probably wouldn’t let me this close again. And then I realized why she was upset. I freaked her out last night when I said ‘I love you.’

“I’m sorry for freaking you out last night, but everything I said was true…even if I was drunk,” I told her quietly. She looked up at me with wide eyes. “And yeah, I remember what I said before I passed out.”

She closed her eyes and left her head on my shoulder. “Really?” her voice was so soft, it had been hard to hear. I nodded before speaking up.

“I liked you back in seventh grade too. You didn’t seem interested and I didn’t want to scare you away,” I stated honestly. She looked up at me and inched her face closer to mine.

Notes

I feel kind of evil with this cliff hanger, but that's how I wrote it...Thanks for the comments and I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter. Let me know your thoughts! I have school tomorrow, and work through Friday. So I may not be able to update again after tomorrow night or Wednesday morning.
