Scream

Not Enough (Brian's POV)

"Wait, what bridge," Matt asked, out of breath from sprinting out of the house and to the car. We had to find her before sundown. We couldn't lose her.

"I don't know," I said, revving the engine and pulling out as soon as Matt shut his door. "That's why we need to hurry." When I got to the first stop light (I really wanted to just keep going) I looked over at Matt who was on his iPhone.

"The two closest bridges are the ones that cross the Santa Ana river."

"You really think she got that far by now?"

"Only god knows with her," he stated. "But we need to find her before..." We both knew the end of that sentence. I cleared my throat.

"Where are the bridges?" He looked back at his phone.

"One connects Garfield Ave to Gisler Ave and the other connects Banning Ave to 19th Street."

"Shit... what if we go to one and she's at the other? We could be too late." I sighed. That hadn't crossed my mind.

"We split up. I'll go to Garfield, you go to Banning. I'll drop you there, I'll speed to where I'm gonna be. And we'll walk the bridge." Matt didn't respond for a minute.

"What if we don't find her?" His voice was nothing above a whisper.

"We'll handle that if it happens." I stopped at the beginning to the bridge on Banning Ave. "Go. Call me if you find her." He nodded and got out. I sped away and to Garfield Ave. I didn't know what I was going to do if we couldn't find her.

I parked on the curb and ran onto the bridge. No sign of anyone. I kept running even though I could hardly breathe. I had to find her. There. I saw a short figure about to step onto the edge. I ran faster.

"Courtney!" My voice rang echoed off the black of the night, but she didn't stop. I got closer and she stepped on to the metal. "Courtney, no!" Right before she could walk off, I got to her and grabbed her off right before collapsing onto the grates. I made sure I'd be the one at the bottom so if anyone got hurt from the fall, it'd be me.

"Let me go Brian, I wanna jump," she fought against my grip on her, but I wouldn't let up. We were chest to chest, so I could see straight into her eyes.

"Courtney, listen to me," I said, squeezing tighter.

"Ow ow ow ow, stop!"

"Then look at me and listen!" She stopped struggling so I let go the slightest bit. "I will not, and I repeat not, let you jump. I will not let you go until I know for sure that you won't run away when I let you go. We will go home, and we will have a nice, long talk. You, Matt, and I. He's looking for you, too." She swallowed.

"Where is he?"

"The other Santa Ana bridge. We had to split up so we could make sure we'd find you before you jumped. Looks like I came pretty close, too." She looked down and relaxed a little.

"I don't like it anymore, Brian."

"What are you talking about?" I brought one hand up and moved hair out of her face to hook it behind her ear.

"Living." My heart dropped. She wasn't serious.

"Courtney, honey, stop," I said in a begging/whining tone. "Please, you don't know what you're saying-"

"Yes, I do, Brian. I do not want to live anymore. I really don't..." I let go of her, but she just laid on the grates with her eyes closed. I felt tears come to my eyes as I realized I made my sister want to kill herself. This was my fault. My phone started ringing so I pulled it out of my pocket. I pressed the talk button.

"Hello," I said. It was Matt.

"Brian, what happened? It sounds like you're crying, is she okay? Did she-"

"She's alive, Matt. I found her. We'll be right there and we'll go back to my place to talk. We all really need to talk."

"All right. Is she okay though?" I glanced at her. I took a deep breath.

"No." I hung up and shoved the phone back into my pocket. "He's worried about you," I told her.

"I know," she murmured.

"I am, too."

"I know." I stood up and bent over, picking her up bridal-style. She didn't react.

"Whya ren't you getting mad at me for carrying you?" She stayed limp.

"I don't care anymore." I sighed. I walked to the car and managed to open the door to the backseat, laying her down on the seat. She didn't move, so I shut the door and got in the driver seat. Starting it, I drove to the bridge I'd left Matt at. He was sitting on the curb waiting. He didn't wait for the car to even stop before he got in the passenger seat and looking back at Courtney.

"What's wrong with her, what happened?"

"We'll talk at home," I said quietly. Nothing else was said until I pulled into the driveway and cut the engine.

"Can Matt carry me?" Courtney's voice was high pitched and innocent, like a child's. I got out of the car and started walking up the path to the front door as Matt got out and picked Courtney up the same way I had. I waited at the door to hold it open for him. Once he was in, I walked in and shut the door behind me.

"Table," I said. Matt nodded and set her down in one of the chairs. I looked at the clock. 12:42am. Time seemed to go by so fast lately. Matt sat down next to her and I sat down across from them.

"What's so important that we couldn't talk in the car," Courtney asked. I looked down for a few seconds.

"I really think you need help, Courtney," I said, feeling my voice shake a little. "But I don't think a therapist or staying here will be enough."

I can't believe this is over :(
While reading this, I fell in love with the characters :D
I loved Brian and Courtney from the very beginning, and the way their relationship came out to the world and the fact that everyone accepted them (even Matt :D) was just perfect. The times when Courtney was gone and Brian used to feel terrible truly touched my heart.

But at last, they came together and they had this very happy ending. This was all I wanted to happen :)
And now I'm waiting for the sequel because it is hard for me as well to go on without reading this story :p
