Chapter 4
The next morning Maddie woke up and reached out for Matt but he wasn’t there; for one terrible moment she thought she’d dreamt the last night until she inhaled and could smell bacon cooking in the kitchen. She put on her underwear and a T-shirt and walked out of the bedroom. Matt was standing at the stove without a shirt taking the bacon out of the pan as she entered,
“You’ve certainly made yourself at home haven’t you” she said as she went over and wound her arms round his waist. He chuckled as he replied,
“Well good morning to you too beautiful.” She smiled and he turned around before looking into her eyes, tilting her chin up and kissing her softly. Neither of them broke the kiss as it became more intense.
“I think the bacon’s getting cold,” she said teasingly.
“Fuck the bacon.” he replied as she giggled. He lifted her up and she wrapped her legs tightly round his waist as he carried her off into the bedroom to finish off what they’d started last night.
After half an hour they came back in the kitchen, discarded the cold bacon and just ate cereal at the table.
“I was thinking,” Matt said mid-mouthful, “you should come round to my house today. I’m doing stuff this morning but you should come in the afternoon. Only if you want though.”
“Hmm, let me think. I’ll have to check my schedule.” She said jokingly and then added, “Of course, I’d love to.” He smiled, showing his dimples, which made her smile too. When they’d finished eating, she washed up while he went to get changed. He came into the kitchen and she followed him to the door, he kissed her goodbye before smiling, and walking away. Maddie closed the door, and looked around; she had hours to kill before going to Matt’s. She plopped down on the sofa and decided to tidy up completely and get rid of all the removal boxes. She did that and when she’d done, looked around. She felt she properly lived here now; this was her home. She fit in, could finally let go of the past and look forward to an exciting future, hopefully involving a lot of Matt. She smiled to herself as she thought of him smiling at her, with his adorable dimples and enchanting eyes. The clock then chimed, it was 12:00; technically that was afternoon, so she could go round to his for the first time. She grabbed her keys excitedly and headed out of her apartment.
She pulled up at Matt’s house, and was a little shocked at how big it was. He hadn’t given much away about where he lived, but she had not expected this. She walked up to the door and knocked, after a few seconds Matt opened it.
“Hey! I wasn’t expecting you this early, couldn’t resist seeing me again I presume?” he said cheekily, inviting her in.
“In your dreams buddy.” She said, hoping it wasn’t too obvious that was exactly the reason she was there so early. The noise of a guitar drifted down the hallway. “What’s that?” She asked, her eyes following the sound.
“Come on, I’ll show you” he replied, his eyes twinkling with excitement. He led her down the hallway and into a room with lots of music stuff- guitars, amps, a drum kit and a computer. In the middle of the room there was a man sitting down playing a guitar. He stopped playing when he saw them enter and stood up, he was tall and had spiky black hair and brown eyes.
“Who’s this Matt?” He asked smiling at her.
“This is Maddie, my girlfriend.” He replied. Maddie’s heart skipped a beat, he’d never said that before and wasn’t sure if that was what he’d wanted from her, but it made her very happy to see he felt the same way as her.
“Hey Maddie,” he said holding his hand out to her, “I’m Brian.”
“Nice to meet you Brian.” She replied taking his outstretched hand and smiling back at him. “What were you playing?”
“Matt and I were just trying out some new stuff for the band.” He said.
“Oh cool, can I hear any of it?” She asked tentatively.
“Of course!” Matt said beaming. He and Brian played some of their ideas, whilst Maddie watched in awe. When they’d finished she said,
“Oh my God Matt you didn’t tell me you guys were that good!”
“Always the modest one,” Brian said, “we kick ass.”
“Not that he’s full of himself.” Matt said grinning as Brian punched him in the arm.
“Hey Maddie, why don’t you come hang out with us tonight, we’re going to Zacky’s” Brian asked.
“Yeah come!” Matt said, “You can meet everyone.”
“I’d love to.” She replied.
