Two hours later, I'm walking out of the hospital with my right wrist in a brace, it's badly sprained.
"Dustin, you okay?" Chase asked me.
"Yeah, I'm find. Just not really what I expected to have happen on the day I meet my real dad. " I laughed a little bit.
"Yeah, it's been such a roller coaster lately. But, now that we have him, let's hope he doesn't mess up anyway."
"Yeah," I sighed. "Hey, Zack?"
"Yes, Dustin?" He turned his head slightly so he could see me better.
"How did you and mom meet?" I asked, genuinely curious.
"I... I don't want to talk about that right now. It's hard knowing that she's not here anymore. That I have no chance of getting we back." He sounded like he was about to cry.
"Yeah," I went and hugged him. "She always talked about how great of a guy you were. Even though she left, I could tell that she still loved you. She tried to move on, but she couldn't."
"Really?" He asked. His eyes were a little watery.
"Yeah," I smiled up at him. "Really. "
"You have her smile."
"People would always say that,"
"Dustiiiiiiii!" River yelled, running over to me.
"Hey little buddy! What's up?" I picked him up.
"Are you gonna live with Uncle Zacky now?" He asked. His question surprised me. I hadn't thought about it until now.
"I... Uh..." Before I could finish, Zack but in.
"If she wants to. It's up to her." He looked at me. I looked over to Chase. He nodded, telling me it was my decision.
"Yeah," I said quietly. "Yeah, were gonna live with him, buddy. We can hang out all the time!"
"Yeah!" He exclaimed, almost making me drop him.
"Careful there, little child." I said, tickling his side a little.
"Are we still going to get food?" Matt asked as we got back into his truck.
"Yeah. Why not?" Zack looked at me. "When do you guys want to officially move into Vengeance Manor?"
"As son as possible." I said, Chase looked at me. "I'm tired of stupid Stephanie. She's soo obnoxious. But, I'll miss Ty."
"Who are they?" Zack asked.
"Our foster parents' kids." Chase told him. "Stephanie is 15 and I think she's got a crush on me. "
"I see," Zack turned around to turn on some music. Seether's song 'Tonight' was on and I couldn't help but sing along.
We at Taco Bell 10 minutes later, we all hopped out and I carried River in.
"What do you want?" Zack asked me.
"Three cool ranch Doritos locos tacos supremes with no tomatoes and a churro. Oh and a small drink!" I chirped, having what I order memorized is helpful.
"Chase?"
"Same as Dusti." He said plainly. What's his problem?
45 minutes later we were finished eating and heading back to the court house.
"So, can I just ask, why do we need to go back to the court house?" I asked, breaking the silence that had fallen in the car.
"We just have to make sure that it's alright that you two move in with me tonight." Zack informed.
"Oh, I see!" I chirped. "So, how far away does everybody live from 'Vengeance Manor'?"
"Well, Jimmy is the furthest away, like 30 minutes. He normally stays at one of our houses though." He told me.
"Ah, I see!" I chirped again.
"And were have arrived!" Matt almost yelled. "You three can go in. I hate court houses. I'll entertain River out here."
"Alright. Let's go kids!" Zacky chirped. Kids, hehe.
We walked in and he talked with the counter lady before she led us to a room where we met up with Detective Dade. There we signed papers, putting us in Zacky's custody. Changing our last names to Baker-Keegan. Ya know, all that stuff.
"Oh, uh, Zack?" Chase got his attention.
"Yes?" Zack asked.
"We uh, we have a dog. A Staffordshire terrier named Jaeger." He told Zack.
"And we don't want to give him up. He's our baby," I added.
"That's fine. Majesty could use some company."
"Oh yeah! You've got a Great Dane!" I exclaimed as we walked out to matts truck. "I love Great Danes."
"They are pretty amazing." Zack commented. "We need to head out to their foster home so they can get their stuff and their dog."
"You guys have a dog?" Matt asked me and Chase.
"Yeah. He's a staffy named Jaeger." I told him.
"Okay, where am I going?" Matt asked as he pulled out of the parking lot.
Chase told him where to go and we were there in 15 minutes. Chase, Zack, and I got out and made our way into the house.
"Chase, Dustin, glad you could make it home. Who's this?" Kathy asked as we walked in.
"Hey Kathy. This is Zack, our dad." Chase introduced as I made my way out to the back to get Jaeger , only he wasn't there.
"Hey Kathy?" I called as I walked into the kitchen where everybody was. "Where's Jaeger?"
"Oh, Stephanie took him out for a walk!" She chirped.
"What?" I asked, choking on my words.
"She took him out for a walk. He was getting antsy." She told me.
"No, no, no, NO!" I yelled running up to my room. , packing everything I had up hastily and closing my suitcase. Chase walked in right as I finished and started packing too. He knew what was going on. "Let's go!" We ran down the stairs in unison.
"Dust, what's going on?" Zack asked, worry etched al over his face.
"We need to go find Jaeger and Stephanie." I told him.
"Okay. Thank you Kathy, for fostering them while I was being found." He called out to her as we ran to the car and jumped in, throwing our suitcases in the bed of the truck.
"Matt, we need to go find Jaeger. Stephanie took him on a walk and it's not good when that happens. He only listened to me and Chase. We need to go now!" I said quickly as Zack climbed in the car.
Matt drive off and we started our search for Jaeger.
