Nightmare

IX

The white ceiling above me was all that was in my line of vision. No one had come into the room for hours. I just simply lay strapped down to the bed. Minute after minute ticked by in silence. The feeling of Riley's eyes on me was a constant reminder I was not alone. Though he did not speak due to the fact I had lashed out at him.

He had woken me up the next morning, after the shock therapy. He was an emotional wreck though I did not want his pity or concern at the moment. I had been through too much just two days ago. My body still ached and shook every so often from after shock. The ceiling was not at all interesting but it was better than looking at Riley's face.

Tears had been falling from his eyes constantly. Pain in his forceful gaze. It was too much to look at for the time being. Not until my raging emotions calmed down that is. Slowly but surely I did calm down. Though I now felt guilt. I should not have acted so rudely to Riley. He was just worried about me.

"I'm sorry for acting the way I did.", my voice sounded like I just swallowed gravel. A few moments passed in empty silence. Soft fingers brushed against the side of my jaw. Riley's tousled mound of hair blocked out the ceiling. His eyes were still filled with pain, "I understand why you acted that way. I forgive you... Now are you sure you don't want me to untie you?" A light smile played on his pink lips.

A smirk tugged at the corner of my mouth, "I don't exactly think it would be that easy to explain to a nurse how I magically got untied." He laughed quietly but nodded, "Let's just mess with their minds and leave them guessing how you did." He took each strap into his hands and unfastened them. Soon I was able to sit up again. It was still rather painful to move though. Riley sat beside me and pulled me into his side.

Sun seeped into the room and warmed my skin. It felt good compared to the harsh, cold air circulating throughout the hospital. The orange glow hit the glass and spread rainbow colors across the floor. It looked like a stain glass window reflected onto the floor. It brought images to my mind.

***
A 6 year old child ran up the isle of the church. Colorful patterns danced across the child's skin, causing her to laugh. It was one of the most beautiful sights she had ever seen. A tall man slowly followed behind her, smiling at his daughter. She had been begging him to take her inside so she could gaze at the colorful stain glass windows. The child had never been inside a church. Her mother did not believe in God and did not want her daughter anywhere near anything to do with God.

The small girl ran to her father and tugged him along. Her tiny fingers latched onto his large hand like a vice. She pointed to the last window. There stood a mother in blue holding her child lovingly in her arms. The girl frowned, "Mommy never holds me like that." Her father gazed down at his child. He quickly bent down and swept her gently up into his arms. "I do, baby girl. Mommy just does not show love the same way I do."

The girl frowns again, "She never shows love..." This caused her father to tense for a moment. His shoulders slowly relaxed as he looked into her sad, watery blue eyes. "Don't think about that, okay. Mommy does love you, she does. Just like I love you. You are my little princess and I love you with all my heart." The girl smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck. The man slowly made his way to the doors, taking one more look at the stain glass window. The child watched the window until the door closed, blocking it from her view.

A knock on the door ripped me from my memories. The door slowly cracked open so the unknown guest could peek inside. Obviously seeing that I was awake, they opened the door entirely. A nurse made her way inside. "You have been restrained long enough. Time to get those straps unfastened... Wait, how did you get those off?!" Riley laughed as I sighed. The nurse shook her head, "Never mind... Get up, there are some people waiting for you out in a visiting room." She left before I could question who it was.

Riley shrugged his shoulders and helped me up, allowing me to put most of my weight on him. To everyone else it just looked as if I was strongly limping. A nurse directed me to the correct visiting room. Inside, sitting at the table, was Brian and a dark haired beautiful woman. I had seen pictures of her before on the internet. His wife Michelle... Why was she here? Brian looked up, a gentle and concerned smile forming.

My heart about stopped as I looked into his eyes. How come I have never noticed this before. His eyes... They look just like... my fathers.
