Nightmare

X

Brown eyes... Two brown eyes, resembling pools of light colored chocolate. The sun twisted the color so a red tint took over the edging of his pupil. His brow bone cast a shadow just below his eyelid. There, a river of lush, dark brown swam. The rimming of the eyes matching it's shade, contrasting against a clean white canvas. Flecks of hazel ran along the the iris, breaking pattern in every way it was placed.

These eyes were no ordinary eyes. They were not the eyes of a passing stranger on the street. Nor the eyes of a friend. They were the eyes of a father. They could not be mistaken for any other. No other being could hold these eyes. Only two humans that have passed through my life have had these identical eyes.
My father, and now Brian.
This brought a new light shining upon the situation.

Seconds ticked away carelessly through the air. No move was made by any present in the room. Especially not by me... a girl who stood in awe of a new realization. My breath was shaky, as was my heart beat it seemed. The sight before me seemed to grasp at my heart and tug. It tugged hard, actually forcing my body slowly toward the table. The chair was already pulled out, waiting for me to reach it. I did, in my own time.

Each breath of oxygen was barely keeping my body steady. Sitting down would do me some good. Brian sat down as I did, still gazing at me with those eyes I seemed to know so well. Yet I know that I did not really know the man who they belonged to. Nor the reason why he had those eyes. There must be some explanation. Though none came to mind.

His eyes continued to stare into mine. Each emotion present in them was easy to read, as if they were being displayed in writing along the surface. Concern shown as bright as the sun. The air held question, for I did not understand the reason for this meeting. Brian and Michelle seemed to pick up on that in a heart beat. He decided that the silence should be cut down by his voice. "Maive, I would like you to meet my wife, Michelle."

She held a beauty all her own. A straight nose, brown eyes, thin pink lips... She was gorgeous, but that alone was not what made her striking. It was the confidence and love that radiated off of her soul. No woman seemed to have that true quality to her. Though the woman before me did. Her heart and soul were pure. A single glance into her eyes made that blatantly obvious. It was somewhat overwhelming, and quite astonishing.

The smile that graced her lips danced in her eyes as well. It was refreshing to find a woman such as the one before me. Her voice matched her beauty, "It is very nice to meet you Maive. Brian has told me so much about you. I feel as if I know you already!" This brought an instant smile to my face for her kindness was uplifting. Though I was suspicious that Brian may have informed her of everything. Would she be quick to judge me? I scolded myself as soon as that thought reached my brain. She was not that kind of person, I knew that to be true.

My voice took a moment to build in my throat before it projected. "It's nice to meet you too. Though I do hope that he has only spoken good of me.", I laughed softly. The look in his eyes told me that he had discussed every detail of my life with her. Though the smile on her face left me knowing she did not think ill of me. "Of course, you seem to be a very kind girl and he seems quite fond of you.!", she gushed. The look on Brian's face was one of embarrassment. My smile wiped that look clean off. His own smile slowly formed.

"I just thought that Michelle would like to meet you. Since I do spend much time here, mostly around you. I hope it wasn't too much of a surprise.", Brian looked hopefully down at me. My smile seemed to reassure him. The smile on my face was so natural. The couple just brought it out of me. Riley placed his hand on my shoulder. I had almost forgotten that he was here. "Your obviously enjoying yourself.", he spoke as he kissed my temple. My smile grew ever so slightly.

Time passed with a lively conversation. Riley listened, his arm around my waist. I really was enjoying myself. Michelle spoke of herself with modesty. It was in no way false. She did not seem to realize the calming affect she had on others, especially me. Brian joked around, having loosened up after a while. He was not nervous like he was before. We were all relaxed and content. These two were very easy to be around and get along with. As the conversation progressed, they spoke of their marriage. They truly were in love.

As I saw how they interacted with me and each other, my mind wandered. Michelle would make a fantastic mother. Brian, a marvelous and outstanding father. His personality so much like my own fathers. It made me feel safe and open. Riley smiled down at me, pleased with my happy state.

***
A little over a month has passed since my first meeting with Michelle. She comes to visit me often. I always look forward to when she does come.

Johnny sat across from me on my bed. His eyes peeked up from behind his handful of cards. He had a devious look floating around his eyes. "Do you have any two's?!", he exclaimed. My face fell, sending him into a false state of happiness. My mouth opened to respond, "Ugh why do you have to do this!? Oh well, I guess you have to... GO FISH!!!!" He groaned, glaring at me as I laughed. "Now Johnny, do you happen to have any sevens's in that pretty little hand of yours?" His eyes swept along the cards, hoping he didn't, "You always have to do this to me don't you?" He reluctantly handed over the three cards in his hand.

My hand slammed down all my pairs causing him to cry out, "WHYYYYY!?" Zacky swiped the cards away from us, laughing, "That's enough torturing Short Shit today." I laughed but nodded in agreement, seeing the disappointment on Johnny's face. He fake cried into his hands. "Aww, poor baby!", I pulled him into a hug. He continued to "sob" into my shoulder. It got louder by the minute. Matt walked into my room and looked down at us, "Not even gonna even to ask."

Zacky sat down next to me, attempting to fling the cards into his other hand like a professional dealer. It didn't exactly work out the way he planned. The cards flew all over the room, most of them slamming against Matt's face. He just sat there, taking the assault. Zacky's eyes widened as Matt stared him down, "Sorry man, they slipped..." I laughed and helped him pick the cards up. Matt flung the cards in his lap at Zacky's head. Soon the cards were picked up and put in my dresser drawer.

Matt looked over at me, "Hey, what do you think about Michelle?" The question was very easy to answer," I think she's really awesome. She's fun to be around and is very caring. Brian is a very lucky guy to be with her. Why?" Matt just shrugged, a smirk tugging at his lips.

"No reason, just curious."
