Friends and Alibis

“I cannot believe you. I just can’t. Why didn’t you do it sooner?”

“You put it into perspective. All of you were right. Those were no grounds to build a marriage on.” He smiled sadly.

“I’m glad you see it now, too,” I smiled back. “We were worried she had you under some sort of mind control.”

“No. I just didn’t want to see reason.”

“Well I’m glad that you do now.”

Zack had indeed blown off the wedding. It’s safe to say that Amelia hadn’t been particularly happy about it. But she deserved it. Every moment of it.

Zack and I were both in his house, trying to pack up Amelia’s things. Somehow the house looked pretty empty without all of her clutter but Zack insisted on doing it himself because he didn’t want her in his house at all anymore. And who was I to say no that. Of course I was gladly helping him packing everything away. Though in my opinion a fire would have been a better place than all of these boxes.
But she had already gotten what she had deserved.

Taping shut the last of the boxes I sighed. Zack looked at me with a small smile. He didn’t seem overly happy but what could you expect from someone that had just blown off his wedding. But he looked content.

“I’m just going to put these away,” he motioned to the rest of the boxes, “and then we can go meet up with the guys.”

I nodded and told him okay. “I’m just going to the bathroom real quick and then we can leave.”

I quickly went to the bathroom because I didn’t want to waste any more time in celebrating our victory. We had actually been able to break them up. I still couldn’t quite wrap my head around it.

I washed my hands and went back outside. But Zack was holding my phone in his hands with a deep frown on his face.

“What’s up?” I asked confused.

“Matt just texted you.” He sounded hurt. “I can’t believe you actually did it. Congratulations on breaking them up, I knew you were able to do it on time,” He read.

My stomach dropped.

“Is this true? Was all of this just a game to you and the guys?” he looked at me and I flinched at the look on his face.

“I-It’s not the way it sounds.” I tried to reason.

“Of course it isn’t. It never is, is it?”

“I’m sorry, Zack. We just knew you wouldn’t be happy with her and we wanted to prevent that,” I admitted.

“You know that I can think for myself, don’t you? Like, I have an actual brain that I can use and actual feelings that got hurt. I cannot believe you. I just-” he shook his head with a look of disbelief on his face. “So was all of this just a game to you? I kissed you! I fucking slept with you and I felt so guilty for this. And it was just a game to you? To make me cancel the wedding?” He was furious.

I didn’t know what to say. In essence he was right.

“Go! Celebrate ‘your victory’ with the guys,” he scoffed and went upstairs.
