Scent of Drunkenness
Matt arrived in the truck shortly in after Jimmy had called him. When I saw him I realized I had seen him around school before, me and my friends always figured he was a douche because he was so popular and good looking, and never gave any of us a second thought. "You have to sit in the middle shortcake!" He said, grinning at me. I groaned about it and then got in. He got in after me. So I was squeezed between Matt and Jimmy.
"Matt this is Shauni, Shauni this is Matt." Jimmy introduced.
"Hi." I said timidly.
"Hey, cool name!" He said, I thanked him and looked down at the ground. Jimmy lit a cigarette, the smell reminded me of home, almost everyone but me in my family smoked, so all my clothes always smelled like it.
"So where are we going?" I asked, looking over to Jimmy.
"You didn't even tell her dude?" Matt asked.
"We're going to a party, at our friend Val's house." Jimmy explained, blowing smoke out the window.
"Oh okay, well I'm pretty fucking boring so don't expect me to be the life of the party." I stated, they laughed at what I had said and I smiled with them.
"That's okay we have Jimmy for that." Matt said. I smiled at them. Matt was really good looking, he had pretty green eyes, a great smile with dimples, and nice skin. Not to mention he was really freakin muscular. Most girls at school fancied him, but he had a girlfriend. I've never really been attracted to him, but he is good looking.
We didn't drive for very long before we stopped at a house that had a couple cars parked in front of it. I got out of the truck after Jimmy, I felt the leaves crunch under my boots as I walked, I followed them into the house. When we got in we were greeted by a girl with black hair, and glasses, Val.
"Hi!" She greeted, bubbly, as Matt kissed her. 'Oh right that's his girlfriend' I remembered.
"Hey Val this is Shauni." Jimmy said to her.
"Hi." I said shyly, trying to smile without looking creepy.
"That's a really cool name." She said happily.
"Thanks." I said back politely. Someone came in the house shortly after, he had a 6 pack in each hand.
"Hey who wants beers?" He yelled
Matt and Jimmy both grabbed one instantly.
"Hey Brian! This is Shauni." Jimmy said to him.
"Hey I'm Brian, want a beer?" He asked, drinking one himself. I thought about it for a second.
"Sure." I said. He handed me a beer and I opened it with a bottle opener on the counter. I drank the liquid that burned my throat a little on the way down slowly. I've never drank alcohol before, but I don't let it show. I felt kinda stupid for doing it, but I just wanted to get away from it all.
More and more people showed up and I felt more and more out of place. As the night went on I still tried not to drink too much. It was only 9 o'clock. I've had 3 beers and I can feel my senses dulling. I went upstairs to the bathroom to be alone, I sat on the floor, I just wanted to leave but it's only like 9:30 I'd feel totally lame. 'What am I thinking? Why should I give a fuck.' I thought to myself. I walked out of the bathroom and went downstairs to find Jimmy. I found him talking to Brian and Matt by the stairs.
"Hey can I borrow you for a second." I asked Jimmy.
"Yeah sure." He said as we walked out to the front porch to talk in quiet.
"I think I'm gonna go home." I said as I watched his expression change.
"Oh why?" He asked sadly.
"I just feel so out of place and I'm just really tired." I half lied.
"Please stay?" He pleaded.
"Jimmy..." I trailed off.
"Fine but let me take you home." He said.
"You've been drinking." I said.
"Fine then we'll walk, it's not that far." He said.
"Okay." I said. We walked, and talked, about various things. About music, friends, the party, books, nothing too deep, and we exchanged numbers.
When we got to my house I panicked when I realized I had to see my sister.
"Wait," I said. "I just realized something." I said to Jimmy.
"What?" He asked.
"Two things actually. 1.) I'm half drunk and I have to confront my sister who's waiting for me. 2.) Why the fuck did we go to a party? It's Monday night." I stated
"Because Val's parents were away and I wanted to show you a good time." He said.
"Oh." I said, smiling.
"Now what do I do about my sister?" I asked him quietly.
"Want a mint? For the sent of drunkenness?" He joked.
"Sure." I said laughing as he gave me a couple and I ate them.
"Well I better go inside now.." I stated and he hugged me almost immediately. I kinda hugged back, a little. He let go of me and started walking away from my house.
"Bye Shauni!" He yelled as he left.
When I got inside Vicky was standing there, hands on her hips and angry expression on her face.
"Where have you been all day?! You didn't even text me!" She half yelled.
"It's only 10 o'clock, calm down." I reasoned.
"I will not calm down Shauni!" She yelled at me.
"Okay I was out with some friends, don't worry." I said calmly.
"What friends?! That boy you brought around here yesterday?!" She questioned.
"And so what if it was?! He's a great guy and a great friend." I stated.
"How do you know that?! You barely know him!" She yelled.
"I just do." I said, she scoffed. I ran upstairs into my room before she could yell at me anymore.
I plopped down on my bed and restrained myself from crying. I felt my phone vibrate and checked the messages. 4 missed calls from Victoria, figures. I looked through my texts from her.
Vicky: where are you?!
Vicky: why aren't you home yet?
Vicky: call me now
Vicky: at least text me
I groaned at the texts and looked at my texts from Alex.
Alex: dude there's a kitty in my front yard and my parents won't let me keep it ;-;.
Alex: so who's that Jimmy guy?
Alex: Hello?
I smiled at her light hearted texts and texted back:
Shauni: sry my phone was off, you should've taken the kitty anyways and Jimmy is just a friend.
I set my phone down only to hear it vibrate again, expecting it to be Alex I went to answer it, but it wasn't.
Jimmy: hey sorry you didn't have a good time. :/
Shauni: don't be, it wasn't your fault, I'm just not good with socializing...
Jimmy: well anyways, see you tomorrow shortcake :P
Shauni: kk bai
I smiled at the nickname and laid in my bed for a little while before changing my clothes. Plaid Pajama bottoms and the tank top I was wearing. I got into bed and fell asleep, the booze made me tired so I drifted off fast. I didn't really dream much, just a distorted version of the night before.
