I awoke in the middle of the night with a start. I'd had a not so good dream and a lingering bad feeling. I went down stairs quietly to get some water. I was about to open the fridge when I heard quiet sobs coming from nearby. It was Mia. She was sobbing quietly into Brian's lap. He stroked her hair and said in a reassuring voice,
"Baby, it's gonna be okay.."
"No it's not!" Mia shot back, she then lowered her voice to a scared whisper and said,
"What the hell are we supposed to do..?" She was scared, they both were. I was afraid to make my presense known, but me tripping over air made that decesion for me.
"Who's there?" Brian asked sternly.
"It's just me..what's going on?" I asked worriedly. Brian gave Mia a look and she nodded and said,
"I was gonna tell her in the morning anyway."
"Tell me what..?" I asked, kind of afraid of what secret they were keeping that was causing Mia to sob.
"Luce..I'm late."
My jaw dropped.
"You're what..?" I asked in disbelief.
"Late. I think I might be..pregnant.: Mia said, holding in her sobs until the end. She burried her head back into Brian's chest and he stroked her hair and whispered,
"Shh...Baby it's okay.." In her ear. I knew he didn't believe it was really okay, but he was trying to be strong for her. He then said,
"Don't fret just yet. We're still not one hundred percent sure. We'll buy a test first thing in the morning. Just get some sleep for now." Mia nodded reluctantly and closed her eyes, lying on a pillow, her legs sprawled across Brian's lap. Brian stared at her, a look of complete worry on his face. He shifted his look to me and said,
"She acts like this is her fault. I feel so awful, what are we gonna do, Lucy? Please help us.."
