Leaving Here Not Coming Back

Hospital

Marina woke up to a bright light above her. Her vision cleared and she could see a light on the ceiling, and an iv in her arm.

She looked around, amazed. She'd never been to a hospital. The walls were off white, the curtains were tan, the floor was glossy tile, her bed had rails on it and a controller sat on the table.

On the floor in front of the table she found her back pack.

The door opened and three men came in, each smiling as they saw her looking at them.

Marina became suddenly aware that she was in a gown and her underwear. She pulled the sheets up to her throat.
“It's about time you woke up.” Matt smirked.

She shrunk back as he came closer.

“Is this a ...hospital?” She asked.

Matt frowned and nodded.

“Oh. What's wrong with me?”

“Your ribs needed minor surgery, your ankle was badly sprained. When they x- rayed you they found a lot of old fractures and breaks in your bones that seemed like they happened a long time ago.” Zack spoke up.

Brian knelt beside her head on the floor. “Honey, what did he do to you?” he asked softly.

She didn't look at him.

With a sigh, he stood up and went to the window.

There was a quiet knock on the door before the doctor came in. “May I speak with an adult?” She asked.

Zack and Matt stood and left with the doctor.

“I understand that neither of you are Miss Stow's father?”

They nodded.

“Alright. Well, I was going over her x- ray's and was astounded my the amount of injury this young woman has sustained. Her body is littered with scars and bruises as well as the story her bones tell. I fear that this may have been long term abuse and perhaps even...”

“Even what?” Matt asked.

“Rape, Mr Sanders.”

The men froze.

“So I had no choice but to call child services. A representative should be along shortly.” The doctor left down the hall.

Zack and Matt turned to each other. “That bastard may have raped her.” Zack hissed.

“Come on Zee, did you not see how she flinched away from me?”

Zack nodded.

“Lets find Johnny. Brian is less likely to go on a rampage if he can make fun of short shit.” Matt spoke. Zack agreed and they left to the cafeteria.

Susan Carnrike made her way to the room with Marina Stow in it. As soon as the agency was called she was dispatched to talk to the teen.

She didn't like working with teenagers as she found them cocky and annoying. She'd much rather work with children.

But a case is a case.

As she read the file she was given, her anger boiled. What man would do this to his own flesh and blood?! When she got her hands on him she planned to make him pay dearly.

She found the room and went in without knocking just to see a very buff man with tattoos sitting beside the girl who looked scared.

Ignoring her instinct to jump to conclusions she smiled. “Hello.”

They looked up at her, she walked up to Brian and held out her hand. “I am Susan Carnrike with child services.”

The blood drained from Marina's face as the woman shook Brian's hand as if he had a contagious disease.

“Brian.” he said.

She nodded, turning her attention to Marina. “You must be Marina.”

The girl nodded.

“I need you tell me what happened the other day. Who did this to you?”

Marina shook her head.

Miss. Carnrike looked through the file. “It doesn't say here. Who abused you?” She said bluntly.

“My father, and kids at school.” She said quietly.

Carnrike wrote this down with a pen she pulled from her pocket.

“How often were you abused?”

“Everyday.”

“Since when?”

“A long time.” Marina said.

“How long?”
“Since my mom left my dad with me she could be a whore.”

Brian's breath caught as did Carnrike's. The woman's suspicions were popping up all over her mind. She had no doubt that this Brian was Marina's father. They had the same eyes almost.

Marina then told Miss. Carnrike her tale. The rape, the abuse, the bulling, the diary.

“How could you do this to your own daughter?!” She exploded before launching her self at Brian who caught her and held her at arms distance.

“She's not my daughter! Miss. Carnrike contain yourself!” He boomed.

She froze. “She isn't your daughter?”

“No.”

“Oh.” He let go and she blushed as she made her way back to her file.

“I'm sorry, I get really into my work.”

“I see. And just in case, I'll have you know that none of us here are her father.”

She nodded and returned her attention to Marina. “Would you be willing to testify against your father?”

“Could he loose custody?”

The woman nodded.

“Then yes. I can bring the diary.”

“That is a very wise idea. Again, I'm sorry about before Brian.”

He nodded as the woman left.

“Marina?” Brian asked, she looked at him.

“What diary?”
