Leaving Here Not Coming Back

Mother

Marina woke up on the floor where she fell. She saw her father had passed out near by, she frantically felt for her clothes; finding them intact.

She gave a relieved sigh only to flinch at the pain it caused. She gave one more glance to her passed out father before lifting her shirt and looking at her torso. She saw a huge bruise covering her side She tried not to gasp again looking at the side of it. Dried blood was caked on her face, feeling itchy and dry.

Marina bit her lip and forced herself to her feet, feeling her ankle protest. She went to the bathroom and sat on the toilet, opening the dusty first aid box on top of it.

She wrapped her ribs, biting her lip at the pain. She wet a paper towel and washed off her face, then wrapped up her ankle. She hobbled up to her room where she gently laid down knowing she wouldn't be able to go to school tomorrow even if she wanted to. Her body felt like it was on fire, each limb slowly getting heavier.

She lay and took short, shallow breaths not to disrupt her ribs, and closed her eyes. Sleep calling to her, no, ordering her to come to it. To let it take over.
She surrendered.

The next day she awoke at sunset. She slept the whole day away!

Marina's heat felt like it was full of tissues, her body felt heavy. She slowly dragged herself off the bed and down the stairs glad to see that her father had gone to work.

She took some pain meds and fixed herself a turkey and cheese sandwich. She ate eagerly but carefully.
Then she went to the bathroom where she did what she had to and dragged herself to the couch.

The door opened and in came someone she hasen't seen in months.

Her mother came in and looked at Marina, her mouth dropped.

“Honey! What did he do to you?”

Marina realized something, she is as high as a kite. That's the only time she cares, in fact, she cares too much when she's like this. But Marina would still like the help.

Her expensive heels clicked over to her.

“I think one of my ribs is broken, my ankle might be sprained and my temple was bleeding.”

“Oh sweet pea! I'll be right back!” She clicked to the bathroom and came out with the first aid box, setting it on the table and kneeling.

She took off Marina's shirt as if she were a toddler and carefully undressed her ribs, redoing them better than the teen did. She fixed the other bandages, her eyes focusing and unfocusing every minuet or so.

At last, she clicked the box closed. “All done! No one can say I don't take care of my kid!” She beamed, proud of herself.

“Thank you..mother.”

She nodded and stood, leaving the box and going to the kitchen . “You want anything?!” She called.

“No thanks!”

“Alright!”

She clicked her way back in to the living room, two beers in her hand. She set one on the table and dug into the pocket of her short shorts, retrieving a pack of Bazooka bubble gum. She gave her daughter a piece. “Here ya go kid!” She put the pack back in her pocket, picked up the other beer and like that; left, skipping around like Alice in wonderland.

Marina's eyes flashed to the clock 9:22

Her father would be home soon, and he would want dinner. She got up slowly and took care of the first aid box before going to the kitchen and making a quick chicken Parmesan and potatoes. She ate what was hers and set his in the microwave to keep it warm.

Not long after, her father came home.

“Where's my dinner you pig?!” He boomed.

“In the microwave, I know you like it warm.”

He nodded and walked over to the microwave, pulling out the plate.

He got a fork and a beer then sat at the table.

“Go to your fucking room, I don't want to look at you. Tomorrow your staying home from school, I'll call you in sick. This house if filthy, you are going to clean it and I want perfection when I get home.”

She nodded and went to her room. She put on pajamas carefully before crawling into her bed. The meds took affect and she fell asleep.

Notes

I don't do any drugs so I know I didn't describe her mom being high very well. But other than that flaw, what do you think of her mother? Was she nice before drugs came into her life? Do you think Marina was an accident?
