Baby Don't Cry

Is it such a sin for me to take what's mine?

When Jimmy arrived, about half an hour later, he started laughing when he saw Brian who was laying on his back on the sand.

”Did he really pass out? Here?” he asked as he reached us.

Jimmy looked down at Brian who had no idea what was going on around him.

”Yep,” I nodded, ”First he threw up and then he passed out. I can't get him up.”

”What was he even doing here? I thought you two weren't supposed to see each other anymore.”

”I was already in bed when he called me and told me that he wanted to see me. I came out and... He told me that he loves me,” I said quietly. Jimmy furrowed his eyebrows.

”How drunk was he? Why would he say something like that to you? After all that's happened?”

”He was serious about it. I believe he truly meant it.”

”Sophia... I don't want you to get hurt again,” Jimmy said quietly, ”But, come on... His marriage is back on track again. I'm sure he doesn't want to risk that.”

”But he told me he's willing to leave Michelle!” I exclaimed.

I was honestly getting annoyed by the way Jimmy talked to me. Why did he have to bring me down like that? Why couldn't he just understand that Brian really did love me?

”Whatever,” he shrugged, ”Like I said, I don't want to see you get hurt again.”

”Yeah, whatever.”

”So what are we going to do with him?” Jimmy asked and pointed at his best friend.

”I don't know. We should probably carry him inside... He could sleep on the couch or something...” I mumbled with a sigh.

All of a sudden I wasn't feeling so cheerful anymore. Jimmy had brought me back on the ground from the clouds, and all there was left was sadness. What if it was true? What if Brian had only said the things he did because he was drunk? What if he didn't love me at all?

”I don't know, Soph, he's a pretty big guy...”

”Well do you have a better idea?”

”We could just leave him out here and cover him up with a blanket of something,” Jimmy suggested with a shrug.

”Isn't that dangerous, though?” I asked him.

”How?”

”Somebody could rob him or... Rape him or something,” I mumbled.

Jimmy started laughing really hard and I shot him a glare. His face fell and he cleared his throat.

”Okay, uh... Let's try to wake him up,” he said as he knelt down in front of Brian.

He started shaking his shoulder, trying to wake him up. All of a sudden Brian opened his eyes and looked around. His eyes focused on Jimmy.

”What the fuck, man,” he mumbled, ”What are you doing here? Where the hell am I?”

”Sophia called me,” Jimmy said, ”You passed out on the beach.”

”What the hell...” Brian sat up and rubbed his eyes. He narrowed his eyes as he looked at me.

”What am I doing here?” he asked me.

”Uh... You came to see me,” I said quietly.

”Did I?”

”Don't you remember?”

”No,” he shook his head.

I swallowed hard and couldn't help but feel disappointed. Really? Didn't he really remember anything, anything at all? Didn't he remember telling me that he loved me?

”Oh,” I sighed and looked away from him.

My eyes met Jimmy's and I could tell that he felt sorry for me. He knew exactly what was going through my mind.

”Let's get you inside,” Jimmy told Brian.

He nodded before we helped him up to his feet. Brian wrapped his arm around Jimmy's shoulder who started walking him to my house. We got to the front door and I opened it for them. Jimmy put Brian down on the couch.

”I'm going home now,” Jimmy told me.

He gave me a big hug and I thanked him for the help and then he left.

I turned to look at Brian. He was looking at me.

”Why are you being so quiet?” he mumbled before closing his eyes and leaning his head against the couch.

”I'm annoyed,” I said, honestly.

”Why?”

”Don't you honestly remember anything that you said or did before you passed out?” I asked him.

He was quiet for a moment but then opened his eyes.

”Why? Did I do something stupid? Is that it, why you're mad?” he asked carefully.

”You said you love me,” I said. I watched as his face fell.

”Did I?”

”Yes.”

”Oh...”

”I'm guessing you didn't really mean it,” I said and sighed quietly.

”I think I did,” he told me, ”But, you know, I can't exactly remember...”

”Oh, okay.”

”Sophia...”

”No, it's okay. I shouldn't have got my hopes up high again,” I mumbled.

”I have thought about leaving Michelle.”

”I know.”

”How do you know that?”

”Because you told me,” I said, ”You said that you would leave her for me and I really believed you. You said that you want the whole world to know that you love me.”

”I'm just not sure about my feelings. When I'm sober, I love Michelle more than anything. But when I'm drunk, all I can think about is you.”

”That doesn't really make me feel any better,” I said.

”I'm sorry, I don't know what to say.”

”Don't apologize. This isn't your fault. Just... You can sleep on the couch,” I mumbled before I started walking out of the room.

”Sophia?” Brian was shouting after me.

”What?”

”I think I really do love you,” he told me.

”You're still drunk.”

”It doesn't matter,” he said.

”To me it does, believe me.”

As I got in my bed, I couldn't help but feel like shit. Brian didn't really love me at all. He was just... He was just trying to make me feel better.

A knock on my door interrupted my thinking and I held my breath for a moment. The door opened and I saw Brian standing in the doorway.

”Can I come in?” he mumbled as he started walking closer.

”Who am I to stop you?” I muttered and sat up on my bed.

”Don't be like that, Soph. I want to talk to you about this.”

”Five minutes ago you were laying on the beach, not knowing anything about the surrounding world and to be honest, I think I liked that side of you better,” I mumbled.

”Oh, come on... I know that you want me here. I know I mean a lot to you,” he said quietly.

He sat down on the other side of the bed and looked at me with sad eyes.

”I love you. You don't love me. The end.”

”But I do love you!” he exclaimed, ”At least I think so...”

”See? That's where it goes wrong. You think that you love and that's not quite enough for me,” I told him.

”Well then, what is enough for you?”

”I don't know, look, let's not have this conversation now,” I muttered with a sigh.

”Can I sleep here? With you? The couch is so small and it's so lonely down there and...”

”No,” I shook my head, ”Don't mess with my head, Brian.”

”Please? I want to be with you,” he murmured and started moving his body closer to me on the bed.

I sighed deeply and shrugged.

”Whatever.”

He let out a happy laugh as he got closer to me. I tried to move away from him but all of a sudden felt his arms around me as he took a hold of me and pulled me close.

He pulled me really close to his warm body and I couldn't help but admit to myself that this was exactly what I wanted. I wanted to be close to his body and I wanted to fall asleep in his arms.

”Goodnight, Sophia,” he murmured against my cheek before kissing it softly.

”Goodnight.”

”Please don't be mad at me.”

”Be quiet. I'm trying to sleep.”

”Say you're not mad at me. I can't sleep if you don't say it,” he whispered.

”I'm not mad at you.”

”Say it like you mean it.”

”No. I'm not going to worry about your feelings since you don't care about mine,” I mumbled and closed my eyes.

”I know that you really care about my feelings. You can't help but worry about other people,” he whispered.

”Be quiet.”

”Fine. I'm sorry.”

”Goodnight.”

”I'm sorry. Don't be mad.”

”I'm not mad!” I hissed.

”Yes you are,” he said and laughed.

”Fine. I'm really angry at you. Now, really, be quiet.”

”That's what I thought. See? I was right,” he murmured.

I sighed deeply and turned my head to him, looking him straight into eyes. I pressed my lips firmly against his but didn't even kiss him. I just kept my mouth against his mouth and managed to shut it.

A moment later he started laughing and then he started kissing me.

”Goodnight,” I mumbled after pulling my face away from his.

He kissed my cheek one last time before letting me fall asleep in his arms.

You made me cry!:(:(:(
I loved the story, right from the first chapter. Sofia and Brian's first time, them separating, Brian marrying Michelle, Jimmy having feelings for Sophia, Sophia falling for Brian, Brian getting a divorce and marrying Sophia, the couple losing their child, and finally separating.

Loved it! But ending was really sad:(
