The Unforgiven

From the safety of a two way mirror, I watch as the band Avenged Sevenfold struggles against their zip ties and gags. I also watch as the treacherous girlfriend of the lead singer struggle against the metal table she’s tied to. Her name is Lucy Russo and she’s been a thorn in our sides for as long as I could remember. She blames vampires for the tragic deaths of her parents and child. And maybe there is some truth to it but she’s killed more vampires than that one rogue vampire has killed humans. Because after that night, that lone vampire was immediately terminated. He met his fate Interview with a Vampire; locked in a well and was exposed to the one thing all of us hate the most. The sun.

“What have they gotten themselves into?” A deep voice asks behind me. I turn around and see Alex Varkatzas; the lead singer of Atreyu and probably my greatest creation and closest friend. “We were just in the studio with Matt and everything seemed perfectly fine.”

“Lucy happened.” I reply before turning towards the mirror. “She managed to kill a high ranking member of The Unforgiven, which you know should mean immediate death to whatever mortal managed to get the jump on a vampire.”

“Yet they are still alive.” He states the obvious. “Why is that? Are you guys getting soft?”

“No.” I sigh, running my fingers through my naturally golden blonde hair. “I have no idea why they aren’t dead. I have no idea why we took them hostage. Lucy is probably going to die but I have no idea what fate has in store for her boyfriend and his bandmates.”

“You don’t like not knowing things, Nat.” He chuckles. “So let me guess, you’re stuck on babysitting duties until you get the call, huh?”

“I hate babysitting duties more than I hate not knowing things.” It’s my turn to chuckle. “Not that I don’t love seeing a friendly face, what brings you here moya lyubov'?”

“Just wanted to check up on you.” He shrugs. “We don’t get to see much of each other since you joined The Unforgiven. I miss you.”

“You’re sweet.” I give him a toothy smile as I caress his cheek, which he happily leans into. “You were always my favorite, you know? You were the perfect creation.”

“And you saved me from myself countless times.” He smiles back. “If you ever need me, I’ll be there for you Natalia. No matter what.”

“I appreciate that Alex, truly I do.” I frown. “But I can’t allow you to get involved this time. Not when The Unforgiven are involved. They aren’t exactly nice to their fellow Vampires.”

“They’re elitist, I know.” He sighs. “I don’t get why you are dealing with them. You hated them with every fiber of your being at one point.”

“They are sadly a necessary evil, Alex.” I reply. “They weren’t going to leave me alone until I joined their ranks.”

“Please be careful, Nat.” A sad smile appears on Alex’s lips. “You hear horror stories when it comes to The Unforgiven. I don’t want you to be the next one to end up in the furnace.”

“Don’t worry Alex, I know exactly what I’m doing…”
