Life Is For Living

2

Chemical Conspiracy were freshening up in their dressing room after watching Avenged’s set.
“Holy shit, we’ve been invited to an A7X party!” Birdie gushed excitedly. Tom rolled his eyes, sweeping his dreadlocks into a knot on his head.
“Are you not even slightly excited that M Shadows just shook your fucking hand?” the rhythm guitarist demanded, incredulously, his heavily tattooed arms open wide in a physical question mark. Tom just shrugged and carried on with changing into a fresh t-shirt.
“It was cool, I guess,” he eventually remarked, after seeing Birdie’s mouth hanging open. He turned to Dominic, who was nursing a beer with a miserable face on the couch.
“What’s eating you?” he asked with a raised eyebrow, knowing that it didn’t take much to make the lead guitarist to furrow his brow.
Dominic continued to scowl, “I just didn’t nail the solo in Lullaby of Limbo.” He took a swig of his beer moodily. Beatrice plonked herself down onto the couch and laid her legs across him.
“Don’t stress, Dom. It sounded amazing, you know that,” she grinned, wiggling her feet as she inspected the dirt on her Hi-tops. He rubbed her leg gently and let her positivity infect him.
“You’re right, we fucking rocked it out there,” he smiled, appeased.
“We can’t have done that badly if they invited us to party with them,” Tanner piped up from the corner, where he was polishing his bass meticulously. “Speaking of which, when are we leaving?”
“Let’s go now,” Beatrice hopped up with excitement. “I’m dying to speak to their drummer.”
“You’re still sweaty,” Tom laughed, protesting at her bedraggled appearance. She shrugged him off.
“Don’t say I’m embarrassing you?” She teased, poking her tongue out as she skipped towards the door.

“Party’s arrived!” Beatrice announced at the top of her voice as the members of ChemCon entered the parking lot where Avenged’s tour bus was parked.
“You made it,” smiled Zacky as he greeted them. He pointed to a table off to the side. “Drinks are over there. Don’t be strangers, come mingle with us.”
“Thanks for inviting us, man,” Tanner nodded in Zacky’s direction.
“No sweat, brother. We needed to thank you guys somehow.”
Beatrice pulled on Tom’s tank impatiently and they all began moving towards the drinks table where various liquors and beers awaited them. Beatrice immediately got to work mixing herself a concoction involving vodka, among other things, when Dominic put a hand on her arm.
“Is that a good idea, Bea?” he murmured gently to her, trying not to offend. It did offend, though, and Beatrice shot him a fiery look before shaking him off and continuing mixing her drink. She was focused so intently on not looking at Dominic that she didn’t notice the lanky figure bound up to her.
“Whatcha cookin’?” he asked, curiously. She looked up to be met with none other than the Rev.
“Fuck,” was all her brain managed to put forward.
“Sounds interesting, I’ll get one of those too,” Jimmy grinned, mischievously. Beatrice found her tongue again and stuck her hand out to him.
“Bea,” she introduced herself. Jimmy eyed her hand before bursting into laughter.
“I’m not shaking your fucking hand. What is this, a job interview?”
Beatrice giggled as she whipped her hand away and replaced the gesture with a middle finger instead.
“No need to be an ass,” she retorted, playfully, as she moved her attention to fixing a drink for Jimmy. He looked her up and down while she was distracted, taking in her figure.
“Here you go, one Fuck,” she smirked as she handed him the drink. He raised his glass, prompting her to do the same.
“Here’s to an amazing show, and to Fucks,” he laughed, tapping his cup against hers. “Drink up,” he commanded. Dominic’s earlier remark echoed around her head, but she pushed it away, knocking her drink back in one. She caught Dom giving her a weary look as she came back up for air, but ignored him and refilled her cup. Jimmy launched into an interrogation about their band which she welcomed. It felt amazing to have a drummer she admired asking questions about the band, about her. She in turn asked him about the tour and eventually couldn’t hold back from gushing about how much he inspired her. He smiled as he watched her animatedly describing her favourite bits of his performance, complete with air drumming, enjoying her vivaciousness.

The party was amazing. The atmosphere was buzzing, great music playing and drinks were well and truly flowing. Bea was halfway through her third drink, chatting away excitedly to Jimmy about drumming when her phone began vibrating incessantly in her pocket.
“Sorry,” she apologised, “let me just take this.”
He nodded as she wandered off, speaking into her phone in hushed tones.
“I don’t mean to step on your toes,” a voice came from beside him, “but if you’ve got any sense you’ll stay away from her.”
Jimmy turned to find Dominic beside him.
“I’m sorry, what?” he asked, bewildered at the burly man’s statement.
“There’s much more to Beatrice than meets the eye,” Dom replied, cryptically. Jimmy looked as confused as ever, not following the guitarist’s train of thought at all.
Dominic raised an eyebrow at Beatrice’s returning figure, “If you stick around, you’ll see what I mean.”
Dominic retreated as Beatrice skipped over and took his place.
“What did he want?” she asked, a hint of irritation dancing in her eyes.
“Just talking about the show,” Jimmy lied, a vaguely uncomfortable feeling prodding at him.
Beatrice shrugged it off, “Well, I’m out anyway. I’m heading into the city, there’s a killer nightclub.”
“You’re leaving the party?” Jimmy asked, slightly taken aback.
Beatrice glanced around at her surroundings with a grin, “It’s a Saturday night, Jimmy - I need strobe lights.”
She bounded over to Tom, who was currently melding into the fold pretty well, and whispered into his ear. Tom rolled his eyes, clearly unfazed by Beatrice’s comings and goings, and gave her a wave. She broke back into her bouncing walk as she made her way back to Jimmy.
“You wanna join me?” she asked, throwing a flirty smile his way.
“Join you?” he repeated, looking her up and down.
She leaned in closely to him, and whispered playfully, “It could lead somewhere, who knows?”
Jimmy couldn’t take his eyes off her as she waltzed across the parking lot towards the road to hail a cab. He looked back at the lot party briefly before making a snap decision and following her.

The music in the club pounded out, not to Jimmy’s taste at all, but Beatrice was lessening the audio assault by countering it with her magnetic personality. She sipped at the concoction she’d ordered that was almost the same colour as her flamingo locks. Her lips wrapped around the straw flirtatiously, and she was clearly enjoying the effect she was having on Jimmy. He kept his eyes on her as she came up for air from her drink, her grin fueled by the alcohol.
“Dominic mentioned you earlier,” he tried to drop casually, noting that she stiffened momentarily at his statement. “He told me to stay away from you. Why?"
Her eyes misted with anger for a second as she unashamedly hissed, “Because he’s a cunt.”
Jimmy raised an eyebrow, “Ever thought about telling him you don’t need a babysitter?”
Beatrice smiled knowingly, but her expression was laced with bitterness.
“It’s not me he’s babysitting,” she answered, dryly.
“What do you mean?” he asked as she swung her hips to the music. “I figured he was being territorial or some shit.”
She threw her head back and laughed loudly.
“No, Jimmy, he really wasn’t.” She stopped dancing and looked at him seriously.
“Dominic thinks I’m a bad influence,” she smirked, air quoting him with her fingers.
“And why’s that?” Jimmy quizzed, looking the pink-haired fireball up and down. She leaned in closely, her hair tickling his cheek.
“Because of my… interests…” she crooned in his ear, her voice silky. “Tell me Jimmy, do you like drugs?”
It wasn’t a particularly attractive question, but her alluring voice and the glint in her eye made his heart race.
“I’ve dabbled,” he replied, matching her tone with a raised eyebrow. Beatrice pulled back from his ear, but stayed in close proximity, her body now swaying to the beat again. The way she moved was hypnotic, and she was definitely using it to her advantage, enticing him closer with every fluid movement. He wanted to ravage her. He didn’t care what Dom thought, or about her 'interests'; there was an animal lust in him that he was craving to satisfy. He looked deeply into her eyes but she was drifting somewhere else, her dilated pupils betraying her. He noticed the faint sheen of sweat across her being, causing the lights to illuminate her in an ethereal glow.
“Well, I love them. Speaking of which,” she husked, “I’m coming up. See you later, alligator.” Beatrice flicked her straw away and threw back her drink, slamming the empty glass down on the bar. Blowing Jimmy a kiss, she shimmied her way onto the dancefloor, where the strobe lighting only seemed to encourage her further.

He drained his beer and made after her with an aching hunger for her body.
“Come to play?” she purred as he approached, winding her arms around his neck like creeping tendrils of ivy. She pressed herself against him as she continued swaying. Jimmy matched her movements, mirroring her with expertise as though they were performing a ritual. They sort of were, he supposed.
She leaned in with a tantalising whisper as she ground her body against him, “Want to come back to my place?”
“Absolutely,” he breathed back, eagerly. She pulled him away from the dancefloor and towards the doors. Jimmy gave no resistance, and followed her out into the night, ready for whatever she could throw at him.
