Awkward.

"So, you were born and raised in California?" Bailey asked after a long silence, Johnny was staring like a Zombie out the window past me.

"No, I was born in Washington. I moved to California." I said quietly. "But I've never seen a place quite like this."

"It's definitely one of a kind." She smiled. "What made you come with John?"

"He asked." I shrugged. I hadn't really given it much thought, when someone asks you to do something for them - especially something that means so much to them - you do it. That's what real friends do.

I remember when I first met Johnny, we were playing in Matt's garage and he would come to watch us. He always made fun of our bassist saying he should take the spot. Which, after a while - he did.

He was the youngest in our group - I am 3 years older than him - he was also the shortest, which made him the ass-end of all of our jokes. But in all seriousness we love Johnny, I mean if I didn't.. Would I be in this truck with him and his sister - on our way to their house where I was to stay for a few days for Thanksgiving?

Well I mean, she's hot - but Johnny wouldn't be in the picture.

We pulled into a patch of trees, I guess it would be the closeset thing to the driveway that we were going to get around here.... We went through a small tunnel of trees before coming out to a long road that I could see led to an old farm house. Beside us on each side was fenced in horse pasture - a few horses were out running. Well, one was running... The other two were eating.

She parked her truck by the porch, I felt a little weird getting out. An older couple came out, no smiles... no emotion... no nothing. Johnny hugged them and we all carried stuff inside. Awkward. Very. Very. Awkward.

"So, you must be Zack- John's friend." The man said. He towered over me, but he wasn't that much taller than me.

"Yes, Sir." I said, my voice shaky. I offered him my hand, and to my dismay - he took it.
I have shook many hands, even with some people that you could imagine would break my hand off- but this old man in front of me, a dainty coffee cup in his other hand - about ripped the damn thing off.

"Make yourself at home, Zacky." The woman said with a smile. "Bailey will show you to Johnny's room - Since I think Johnny and Levi want to go see the barn."
Johnny got a weird look, then nodded before walking outside with Levi. I felt tension - but it wasn't my place to neb.

"So..." I said as I followed the small girl up the stairs.

"Uh.. I guess I could show you around. This first door is the bathroom... the second door is my room..... The first door on that side is Johnny's, then the study."

"Cool... I can only imagine what Tiny-mite’s room looks like." I smiled. I wanted nothing more than to see embarrassing things like Hannah Montana on his walls or Pokémon everywhere.
When she opened the door I was shocked, it was just a normal room... The walls were wood like the rest of the house - a Metallica poster and a poster for some horror movie with a naked woman on it.... a desk that stood bare - a closet hanging open with some clothes left behind.. not what I expected.

What I did find- was a cowboy hat. Well, not just one but at least five of them. I laughed and put one on, Bailey just stared at me like I was an Alien.

Great way to impress a girl- be an idiot.

"Sorry." I mumbled as I took the hat off and put my bag on the bed.
Idiot. I'm an idiot. I definitely had no chance with her now.
Not that I could anyways, I couldn't do that to Johnny.

it's hard for me to imagine them as teenagers. lmfao.
