My Second Heartbeat

Later that day, we walked over to Johnny's Bar to meet Zacky and Johnny. Apparently, Jimmy was working at a laundromat and couldn't make it.

“So, she doesn't care that minors drink in her bar?" Kat asked suspiciously.

" No, she definitely cares. But she knows that we're going to drink anyway and we're family. And anyone who's close to me is family to her also. So she would rather us drink their safely.” Matt said with a smile.

" That makes sense. It's pretty awesome though." Kat said as we walked into the bar.

" Hey Aunt Crissy!” Matt said as he walked over and kissed her cheek. "We have a new friend, old friend to Rori. Her name is Kat. She's at least old enough to go into a bar, but still underage. Just wanted to let you know.”

Crissy chuckled. "Well, it's lovely to meet you, Kat. Welcome to Johnny's Bar and Huntington Beach! Go have a seat with the others. I'll bring you guys cokes.” She said with a sweet smile.

We were all sitting in our usually booth when Kat walked over to us. Matt and I scooched over so she could sit next to me.

“Zacky, Johnny, this is my best friend Kat. She just moved here for her 18th birthday and she's staying with me. You boys be nice to her or I'll punch you in your faces.” I said with a smile. "Comprende?”

Johnny and Zacky saluted me military style. "Yes, ma’am”, they said in unison.

Zacky looked Kat over and said, “My, my. Does Ohio make all the cute rocker chicks? Like, do I have to move out there?” He grinned.

Kat blushed. " Trust me, it is not like that in Ohio. Rori and I were outcasts at our school for how we dressed and the music we listen to. I'm thinking it's more common here.”

" She's got a great point.” I chimed in. " So, when is Jimmy off work?”

" He gets off at 10pm when the laundromat closes. He told me that we should come to his apartment above the laundromat after that and hang out some as some last soiree before school starts on Tuesday.” Johnny answered.

" Hell yeah!” We all agreed.

" It's going to be kick-ass. I can't wait!” I said excitedly.

Crissy brought our cokes over and Matt looked at her with a sweet smile. “Thank you, Crissy. So, Jimmy wants us all to go hang out at his apartment and have a mini party with us as a last shindig before school on Tuesday. I was wondering, could I have a bottle of alcohol for us all to share? We will stay the night there and stay out of trouble. And I'll come sweep the bar and clean to pay it off. Please?” He smiled wide.

" I guess that's okay. But I don't want you to just take the bottle out in public and risk getting caught with it. Come pick it up later and put it in a backpack or something. Is that okay with you?” She said carefully.

" Sounds perfect to me. We will come back around 10:30 to get some Jack.” He winked at her.

" Oh, Lord. You're killing me, Matthew.” She said jokingly as she walked away.

We chatted excitedly about the party tonight, sipping on our cokes. I looked over at Kat and saw her looking at Brian a lot. And when she would look away, he would look at her. I saw a certain look in Brian's eye that I didn't see when he would normally check women out. I smiled. “Maybe they will find what Matt and I have..." I thought to myself.

Matt put his arm around me and I leaned into his chest. I smiled up at him and he kissed my lips briefly.

“Oh gross. Can't you guys get a room?" Zacky teased. I looked over at him and saw a twinge of jealousy flash over his face.

" Sorry, Zacky. We will stop the cuteness around you." I teased back. Matt laughed at my response and squeezed me gently.

“We should go to the mall. I haven't been yet and I have some birthday money saved. I would love to get some outfits for tonight.” I said to Kat.

Kat lit up. " That sounds like fun!”

“Alright boys, Kat and I are going to the mall to shop some. We will see you later! Matt, would you want to pick us up at 10:00?” I asked as we were getting out of the booth.

" Sounds perfect, babe. Have fun." He said as I leaned down to kiss him quickly.

We walked away and I looked back to see Zacky watching me with a pained look on his face. Once we were outside, I decided to talk to Kat about it as we walked home to get mom’s car.

“Kat, I think Zacky likes me too." I said sadly.

" Is that a bad thing?” Kat asked.

" Yes, because I really think I'm falling in love with Matt. And Zacky is my friend. I don't want to hurt him” I said sheepishly.

“Woah, woah, woah. In love? Just a few hours ago, you said he hasn't even asked you to be his girlfriend. Now it's in love.” She looked at me with an eyebrow raised.

I sighed. “Way to pick one thing and change the subject. Yes, in love. We both talked about it literally the first night I was in town. We have that type of connection. So that's probably why he hasn't asked me yet.”

Kat's face softened. "Oh, honey. You don't think….that he's just saying these things since you're new in town?” She asked carefully.

I snapped my head in her direction. “No! Matt is not like that." I grumbled. “He's incredibly sweet, and charming. He saved me from my asshole of a father. I can see it in his eyes and feel it in his heartbeat when my head is on his chest. I really believe this is the real deal.” I said with tears in my eyes.

"Baby, I'm sorry. It's okay. I'm just looking out for you is all. I don't want you to get hurt.” She stopped to hug me.

"It's okay. I've just never had anything like this.” I mumbled into her shoulder.

We continued walking, talking about what we should wear tonight. We finally got back home and my mom let us borrow the car keys.

“Do you know where the mall is, Aurora?" She asked.

“Yeah, we passed it on our way in town. I got this.” I smiled.

" Okay, you guys drive safe. And I'll need the car back tonight so I can go to the school in the morning.”

" No problem. Matt's picking us up later anyways. See you later Mom.” I said as we were heading out.

We got to the mall and had trouble deciding what to wear. We tried on countless outfits and were laughing and joking the entire time. Once Kat and I found a super cute outfit, we decided to leave Hot Topic and head to the food court for some lunch.

We were talking about Jimmy's party as we were heading out. These two girls were walking in and overheard us talking, they stopped us on the way out. One girl had long black hair, pale skin and snakebites, the other girl had brown wavy hair and was tan.

“Wait, Jimmy Sullivan is having a party?” The girl with snakebites asked.

" Um, it's not exactly a party, per say. It's a small get together for our circle of friends….who are you?” I asked carefully.


The girl looked annoyed. " Those cock suckers are having a party and didn't invite us.” She groaned. “Well, I'm Alexandria, Johnny's sister. And this is my best friend,Breanna. I can assume since I have never met you, that you're the new girl that Johnny and the boys keep talking about. And you are?” She asked as she looked at Kat.

"I'm Kat, Rori's best friend. Sorry that you weren't invited. I would suggest asking your brother about it.” Kat said with a cocky tone.

" She's feisty. I love it." Breanna chimed in. “Well, if you girls ever want to get away from their perverted talking and drinking. You're always welcome to hang out with us”. She said with a smile.

" That sounds very nice! Hopefully, Johnny says you both are welcome to join tonight. If not, do you guys go to Huntington Beach High? We would see you there Tuesday.” I said with a smile.

" Absolutely! Hopefully we will have some classes together!" Breanna said excitedly.

" Yeah, I doubt Johnny will let us go. He's such a douchebag. If not, we will see you Tuesday.” Alexandria said, annoyed.

Kat and I had lunch in the food court, then headed home to start preparing for the night ahead. Once we both had our showers, we got dressed and began doing our makeup. I decided on black jean skirt with some stylish holes and fringe. I wore my fishnet stockings underneath. I also had on my black, strapless push up bra and matching panties and a Guns n Roses band tee that was styled with cuts up the back. I put on my jean jacket so my mom wouldn't notice. I wore some black flats so that I wouldn't be uncomfortable in heels.

Kat chose some ripped back jeans, a black button up blouse with the sleeves cut off, she left it unbuttoned to her cleavage. This showed off her tattoo sleeve that she had secretly been working on for a couple years (she had made a friend that was a tattoo artist and my dad never allowed me see him). She finished her outfit with black Converse shoes. She looked hot and she knew it.

“Ow, ow." I said as she walked into my room. “Babe alert. You're going to knock Brian off his feet.” I teased.

Kat turned red. "I know I will.” She said with a wink. Before we knew it, it was 10:00 and Matt pulled up.

" See you tomorrow morning, Mom!" We said as we kissed both sides of her cheek and headed out the door. The night that awaited us, would be one hell of a treat.
