Unconditionally

Stupid Boy

Charlotte sighed as she put up the last of the leftover food that was left from the day. Everyone had finally gone and it was just her and Zack. She looked through the glass in the back door at him cleaning up all the cups and bottles around the poolside. She tossed the towel she had in her hands onto the counter and made her way out to the patio where he was now standing.

“Hey, babe,” he said with a grin moving toward her. She smiled

“Did you get everything out here?” she asked. He took another look around.

“From what I can tell, yeah.” he shrugged. “If not I can get it tomorrow.”

He dropped the bag onto the kitchen floor, before pulling her into his arms, kissing her, deeply. When the kiss broke, he looked at her, keeping his hand on the side of her face. “You finished in here?” he asked with a low tone.

She looked around the kitchen just to be sure. “Hmm. I think so.” she smiled up at him wrapping her arms around his neck. “What do we do now?” she asked with a grin.

He moved his hands to her thighs picking her up and setting her onto the countertop. A squeal escaped her in result of the unwarned movement. He smiled at her.

“I believe we have something to finish,” he whispered, placing small kisses on her neck and collarbone. She moved her legs around him, pulling him closer between them, locking her ankles.

“I believe we do.” she smiled, feeling his lips against her skin. Nothing in the world would ever do the things to her that this man did. He was sexy and sweet and everything in between. He was perfect and he didn’t even know it. She felt a small moan against her flesh. Evidently, he liked what he had heard. He stopped and raised his head to look at her.

He moved a strand of hair behind her ear with a small grin. “You’re so fucking beautiful,” he spoke just above a whisper. Suddenly his mind wasn’t on the sex anymore. Part of him just wanted to enjoy her. All of her.

She smiled widely, waiting for him to kiss her once more. It never came instead…

“Come on,” he said, pulling her to her feet from the counter, before taking her hand, leading her up the stairs to his bedroom.

Charlotte turned to him as he closed the door, pulling at his shirt. He grinned, pulling her closer, kissing her. She moaned against his lips a bit, moving her hands to his hair. Her kisses became hungrier before Zack stopped her.

“Char, wait,” he said with a sigh. She pulled back quickly.

“What’s wrong? Are you alright?” she asked. He shook his head, before moving to the bed, sitting down.

“I don’t even know,” he said with a sigh. “It’s everything, I guess.”

Charlotte moved over to the bed to sit beside him. “What happened, Zack?” she asked concerned. She didn’t know why he was having this sudden change of mood, but she was his friend first and she wanted to find out. “Zack, talk to me.”

He looked over at her with a hard sigh. “Listen. I know things have been going great between us and all, and I love you. I do… It’s... It’s just that… “ he stopped dropping his head back down.

“This is about Gena isn’t it?” she asked bluntly. Part of her was angry that he was even doing this. It had been a while. Of course, she couldn’t expect him to just move on from something he spent so many years in. Zack remained quiet. “Zack, talk to me.” she sighed. “It’s okay to feel the way you’re feeling. However, that may be.” She reached up, running a hand over his shoulder and back.

Zack finally nodded. “It’s stupid,” he whispered. “I shouldn’t be even thinking about this. It’s just that when you spend so long with someone that you get sort of tied to that person.”

Charlotte nodded. “I understand,” she said, “I really do.” She waited for a response from him, but there wasn’t one. “She hurt you, Zack,” she stated. “You can’t possibly be thinking about this right now.”

He sat up, looking at her. “When the hell am I supposed to think about it, Char?” he almost screamed. She stepped back, looking at him in disbelief. Not saying a word, she began to gather her things from the room.

“I think I need to go,” she said. Her voice cracking. She waited for a response from him, but nothing. “So much for not hurting me, Zack,” she said, making her way downstairs.

Zack sat there for a moment. He knew she was right. He didn’t have a reason to be thinking about Gena. She hurt him and he couldn’t see that she probably never loved him other than to use him for publicity to suit her own career. He got up, following after her. He reached the top of the stairs when he heard the front door slam. He stopped, letting out a hard sigh. Maybe she just needed time.

He returned to the bedroom, grabbing his phone from the nightstand, unlocking the screen. The wallpaper was a picture of the two of them with wide smiles. He thought back on the day it was taken. He had taken her to Disneyland. She had never been and it was a surprise date that he spent a bit of planning. He had never seen her so happy. He couldn’t really understand why he was thinking the way he was. Was it fear? Fear of being hurt again? He was skeptical about anything revolving around a relationship at this point.

He clicked the phone icon, dialing his best friend, before pressing the phone to his ear listening to it ring.

“Hey, man.” he heard Brian’s voice coming from the other end of the phone.

“Bri, I fucked up,” Zack spoke into the phone.

“What the hell did you do? This better not be about Charlotte.” he grimaced.

Zack let his head fall knowing that he should be ashamed to tell his friend what happened. “It is.” he paused, hearing Brian let out a hard sigh on the other end.

“What happened?” His voice was a little more empathetic this time.

Zack swallowed hard, before speaking. “We were having a good time and things were about to get hot and heavy and I couldn’t stop thinking about Gena.”

“Okay, stop right there.” Brian shot. “That bitch ruined you, Zee.” he spoke “She turned you upside down and chewed you up and spit you back out and she shit on you.” he paused waiting for a reply.

Zack nodded as if his friend could see him. “I know,” he said bluntly.

“Well, if you know then why the hell are we having this conversation?” he asked. A long silence filled the line. “Look, man. Charlotte is the best thing that has happened to you in a very long time. I see how happy you are with her and I see the same in her. You guys found each other for a reason.” Brian didn’t pat himself on the back at all for the effort he put into the two of them meeting.

“You’re right, Bri.” he sighed. “I don’t know what I was thinking.”

“You weren’t,” Brian responded harshly. “Now go get her or call her or whatever you have to do.”

Zack sighed. “Alright. I’ll let you know what’s going on.

I loved this chapter so much! The ending was perfect! I can’t wait for more

This is so cute and light so far and I'm really enjoying it! I just went through a nasty breakup myself, so Zack saying that all he wanted to do was move on and pack up Gena's shit was super relatable! I'm looking forward to seeing how Zack warms up to Charlotte!
