Here's to New Beginnings

Chapter One.

"What the fuck was I thinking?" I said to myself as I drove through nowhere, Ga.

I was on my way to the airport to pick up my best friend, Matt. Actually, he was more than my best friend. He was probably the love of my life, I'm just too stupid to realize it. Matt flew into Atlanta to help me drive back home to Long Beach, CA after a nasty break-up with my ex.

You see, I got married at the tender age of 19 years old to a man that I had known since my childhood. Rick was in the Army and when we started talking after probably 4 years, he was deployed. When he came home from deployment, I flew out to North Carolina to see him. Two weeks later, we were standing in a courthouse in Long Beach getting married. Nine days later, he deployed again. Instead of returning to North Carolina to wait out his deployment, I stayed behind in Long Beach with my family and friends, leaning on Matt and the guys to get through the tough times. But, Rick didn't want me to have anything to do with them. His mother followed me all around town and reported to him every move I made. He would call me and cuss me out, saying that it was slutty for a married woman to always hang out with a bunch of men. Nevermind that none of them were single. One drunken September night while I was sharing a bottle of wine with my best friend, Michelle, I pretty much told him that I was never going to stop hanging out with my friends, because they had been my best friends for years. That's when he told me he wanted a divorce. 9 short months after we said "I Do", our marriage was over.

Fast forward to January. Rick had returned from deployment and we had been talking on the phone and decided that we wanted to work it out. So, I loaded up my car and drove from Long Beach to North Carolina. Things were great at first, but when he got reassigned to Georgia, everything changed. We had bought a house together and had begun to settle into our life together, or so I thought. Four short months after we reconciled, he told me that he didn't want me to leave but he didn't want me to stay. After a very emotional and heated fight, I loaded up my car and hit the road.

So, here I am. Making the trip home again, for the last time. As I pulled up at the airport, I saw Matt standing outside waiting for me and my heart did flips. I parked my car on the curb and got out to greet him.

Matt dropped his bags on the curb and pulled me into the biggest hug he had ever given me.

"I've missed you so much, Lil. Come on, let's get you home."

We loaded Matt's bags into my car, beginning the long drive back to California.

Notes

So, this first chapter is basically just there for back story. There's a lot of history between Lily and Matt, but we will get to that soon!
