Don't Change the Way You Think of Me

“Dani, are you even listening to me?” My sister Roxie sat on the couch next to me going on about her new beau.

“Yes Roxie, and you’re right, David was a creep and you’re going to be so much better without him,” I responded swiftly knowing exactly what was going on…or so I thought.

“You’re not paying attention to me, what’s got your attention all of a sudden?” She asked me, not necessarily upset but irritated. She took a sip of her wine as she watched me.

“I’m sorry Rox, I just received kind of a weird text and I’m not sure who it is,” I responded looking at my phone. My long brown hair pulled back into a bun, but my bangs falling into my eyes. I lightly brushed my hair out of my face as I re-read the message.

“What’s it say?” Roxie asked curiously as she moved closer to me to look.

I read the text aloud:

Hey, I had amazing time last night.. Thnks fr coming –B

She chortled a little, “That person is obviously a little confused.”

“And drunk,” I giggled a little and sent a response.

Hey B, think you have the wrong number hon.

“You should just have fun with them,” Roxie joked as we heard a small noise from the upstairs room in our house.

“Mommy?” I immediately looked towards the stairs to see my baby girl Lily. My heart melted at the sight of her curly brown hair tousled from sleep.

“What’s wrong baby?” I asked as she slowly came down the stairs on her butt.

“I had an accident,” she rubbed her eyes and when she looked at me again I noticed she was trying not to cry.

“Aww,” I cooed and stood up but Roxie beat me to it.

“I got it D,” she smiled reassuringly then made her way over to Lily. “Come on sweetheart, let’s go get you cleaned up and changed.” She picked her up and cuddled her close. Lily’s tiny arms going around her neck and her face buried into her shoulder.

“Goodnight Baby,” I called after her. I can’t wait for Roxie to have one of her own. She’ll be such a good mom.

BUZZ
I looked down at my phone once Roxie was upstairs with Lily.

R u sure? This is Leigha right?

I chuckled and replied, “No, this is Dani”

Oh, my bad. I’m Brian, I’m a little drunk

I smirked slightly, Nice to meet you Brian, drinking here too.

R u hot?

I grinned and rolled my eyes taking a drink of my White Moscato. Haven’t had any complaints so far in my life.

Nice! May I see a pic of whom I am tlkng 2?

Sure…only if I get one too.

I laughed at his eagerness as I scrolled through my phone and found a pic from a few days ago when I was at an office party. I was wearing a tight black dress that had an off the shoulder neckline showing off my chest and shoulder tattoos. One of which was a death bat and it had the lyrics “You had my heart, atleast for the most part” around it. Once selected I took another drink of my wine.

As I pressed send, I received his picture. I did a real life spit take and my eyes were the widest I think they’d ever been. OH MY GOD. At that moment Roxie reappeared coming down the stairs. “She’s tucked back in with clean pajamas and clean sheets. We need to limit her juice intake…she stopped when she saw my face.

“Dani?” She hurried over to me a bit concerned, “Are you okay? What’d they say?”

I pulled up his picture and showed it to her, “This is Brian…”

She rolled her eyes and raised an eyebrow, “Yeah, Synyster Gates is totally texting you.”

Thanks… “I’m sure it’s not him,” I told Roxie blowing off the pic atleast for appearances sake. This guy sent me his pic first, why would he send me a pic of Syn?

I couldn’t help but chuckle at how bad he fucked that one up. Deal, ttyl.

I tuned back in to what Roxie was talking about, which of course she gushed about her date from last night, well…technically tonight. She had gone out with some guy she met online and apparently, he was a complete gentleman. “The only downfall was he expected the goodies on the first date,” Roxie nodded matter-of-factly, and I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Well wouldn’t hurt you to hook up every now and then,” I joked with her as we both finished our drinks.

“Maybe next date,” she winked at me and hugged me tightly. “I love you and Lily, I hope you know that.”

“Of course I do,” I hugged her back. “I should get to bed, I gotta be at the office first thing tomorrow morning.”

She pursed her lips, “Oh yeah. Well, I have a big day planned for little miss and me. We’re gonna get ready for the show that you’re covering tomorrow night.”

“We’re not taking my three year old to an Avenged Sevenfold concert,” I reasoned with her.

“Oh come on, it’s her birthday tomorrow! She’ll be four!” Roxie countered.

I groaned, “Fine. But she wears ear plugs, and she has to be in the stands, not the pit.”

“That can be maintained,” Roxie grinned knowing she had won.

“Fiiine, we’ll take her tomorrow night,” I smiled. “but I get to help pick out the outfit!” Rox is 28 and I’m 25, but there we were giggling like school girls. “For now, it’s time for bed.”

Roxie smiled at me, “Alright, sounds like a plan. I need some too, let’s lock up and go to bed.”

Alright guys, rough first chapter. Had a dream about all this last night, trying it out, if it doesn't work out then I'll take it down, but I think it may have potential.
