A Shot In The Dark

**Shi’s POV**

I looked at the screen on the monitor, our baby. It was so tiny, just a tiny blip on the screen. But we could hear the heart beat “whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh” the heart beat of our baby filled the air. Jimmy was so enamored by the screen he was doing everything he could to contain his excitement. Val had tears in her eyes as she rested a hand on mine. Zacky stood there watching the screen in awe. “It looks like you’re right around 8 weeks Shiloh, the baby is still sitting pretty low, as you can see, but you are looking at being due on November 11th. Would you like a print out version of this sonogram to take with you?”

It took me a minute to realize what she was asking, I couldn’t stop staring at the screen. It wasn’t until Zacky stroked my hair before I jolted back to reality, “Yes…please.” The doctor smiled, hit the controls to print the picture and handed it to us.

I held the picture in my hands as she cleaned off my belly from the jelly, “You will need to follow up with your OBGYN next month. You’re almost through the first trimester, have you been having a lot of nausea?”

“Oh yeah,” everyone answered for me and I blushed and nodded at her.
She chuckled and wrote down a note, “I’ll send that prescription over to Walgreens that’s across the street, you’re welcome to pick it up there.”

“Thank-you,” I responded and she shook my hand.

“It was a pleasure to meet you Shiloh,” she then looked around at everyone else, “You as
well. Congratulations again.” Zacky nodded a silent thanks at her and helped me sit up.

“Bye Doc, thanks for showing me my god baby,” Jimmy said enthusiastically which made all of us giggle.

Val looked at the picture in my hands then looked up at me and met my eyes, hers filling with tears as she smiled, “That’s your baby Shi.”

“I know,” I felt the tears start up. “Valley you can’t cry though, cuz then I’ll cry.”
She giggled and wiped her eyes as Jimmy drew us all in for a group hug, “No one should cry, this angel is going to be fucking amazing.”

“That it will be Jimbo,” Zacky smiled and kissed my forehead. “Let’s get outta here, get some food then some sleep, yeah?” He looked in my eyes.

“Yes please, that would be amazing,” I smiled. “Not to mention, the baby is kicking my ass wanting food. If we don’t soon, I’m gonna be sick.”

“Right, let’s go!” Val smiled at us and hurried the boys out and gave me a sec to button my jeans. We walked arm in arm gabbing and giggling quietly as we all left the building.

**Zacky’s POV**
Seeing my baby on that screen earlier was so amazing. I couldn’t believe that I was going to be a father. Shi deserves only the best and our baby…well, let’s say that our baby deserves better than the best. I knew from the moment I saw the tears in Shi’s eyes that I would do whatever she and our baby needed. Including providing for them. I know I argued with Val and everyone, but…she would be…they ARE my top priority. I knew I couldn’t wait until I got home to tell Gina it was over. That little pitter patter of the heart beat hit my heart with a squeeze. I couldn’t believe that I’d helped make that or that I almost lost out on the opportunity.

“Zack?” Val asked looking at me concerned, it was only then that I noticed there were 3 pairs of eyes on me.

“Sorry, what?” I asked as I shook the shock off.

“Should we go get lunch?” Shi asked gently as she hugged me.

“Definitely, I’m starved,” I hugged her back.

*Shi’s POV*

We walked into the restaurant that I guessed Matt and Johnny chose, Buzzard Billy’s. It looked rustic inside, which is fitting because they served Cajun food and had alligator heads from the Louisiana Bayou as souvenirs you could buy. As I looked at the different tables as we made our way back towards the bar on the South side of the restaurant, each one had a different theme. Gilligan’s Island, Elvis Presley, Baywatch, Full House, John Wayne, Happy Days, you name it and they probably had it if it was from the 80’s/90’s.

“Heyyyyyy it’s the newly parents,” Tuck joked from his seat in between Matt and Jaime, there were a couple other guys that I had not met.

“What am I chopped liver?” Jimmy joked as he sat down next to Val leaving Zacky and I spots between him and Brian at the table.

“Nah, you’re just the crazy arse,” one of the new guys joked with him.

I chuckled as Jimmy pouted and kissed his forehead, “it’s alright Jimmy, I love you just the way you are.”

“YAY! Someone loves me,” Jimmy hugged my middle then realized what he was doing.

“Oops, sorry baby Jimmy.” He apologized to my belly.

Everyone laughed as I sat next to him, Zacky taking the seat between me and Brian. “You know Jim, it could be a Breanna,” Brian joked.

“Did we miss something?” the guy next to Brian asked, exchanging glances with the other guy.

“Well, Zacky here is gonna be a papa,” Brian smiled and clapped Zacky on the shoulder.

“Ah, well, since you’re now part of the family little lady, I’m Moose, and this is Padge,” the guy smiled and shook my hand then Padge mimicked him.

“Aye, congratulations you two,” Padge smiled towards us.

“Thanks,” I smiled, “I’m Shiloh.”

“Gotta say Zack, got a mighty pretty one,” Tuck smirked and winked at me.

“Oi, Tuck, not cool mate, don’t be hitting on his girl,” Moose smirked at his attempt to embarrass his friend.

Tuck lifted his hands in defense, “Don’t think you need to worry about him stealing V’s girl.”
Johnny laughed, instantly I knew where he was going with it and everyone that had witnessed the incident chuckled.

“Why’s that?” Padge asked as he took a drink of his soda.

“Cuz she puked on him first time she laid eyes on him this morning,” Val joined in the joke fest.

Padge did a spit take all over the table as the guys laughed and immediately made noises of “gross, dude, ew”.

Instantly I felt the nausea hit, “Val, bathroom?” Val was instantly at my side and guided me to the bathroom. Thank god for her, I don’t know what I’d do without her.
