Reckless Abandon

City Of The Dead

Jinx's POV
Feb 24th

I woke up in a pool of sweat, at first I thought that I'd pissed the bed, and that's exactly what it smelled like, piss. But hell, showering was the last thing on my mind today. Instead, I laid there in silence, listening to the sound of doors opening and closing as my mother readied herself for another day of work at that wretched fucking diner. She'd probably pick up another scratchy on the way home, like she always did. It was a wasted fucking effort, she would never win the goddamn lottery.

.

But hey, what did I know? I was just her punk-ass kid. I worked my 9-5 down at Clarity Records three days a week, and that was my life. I'd dropped out of high school, so college was off the cards, and Mother liked to remind me of that every single fucking day. Like she could fucking talk about my life going nowhere, hers wasn't exactly going anywhere either.

I eased myself up off the bed and tugged on a Sex Pistols t-shirt that had well and truly seen better days, laced up my converse, shrugged on my leather jacket and slipped quietly out my bedroom window before Mother could come and hassle me. Like hell was I going to work today. I'd called in sick last night, waking my manager from his slumber in an angry huff. Of course it was bullshit, but I never wanted that fucking job to begin with.

I jogged down the road, heading for Mallory and Will's place just a few blocks away. Mallory, or "Mayhem" as I called her, was one of my oldest friends. Hardly a day went by that I wasn't down at her house, partying the hours away with she and the usual suspects. We three Girls, and Boy, to not exclude Will, were inseparable.

I bounced up the stairs onto their front porch, hearing the loud moans coming from inside. Mayhem and Will were like goddamn teenagers. All they ever did was drink, fuck, take drugs, and fuck again. I'd gotten used to it by now. They were young, and in love, and honestly; what the fuck else was there to do in this deadbeat town?

"Open up!" I called, hammering away at May's front door.
"Coming!" May yelped, failing miserably at repressing a moan.
"Oh don't think I don't know!" I cackled.
The door opened a few moments later, revealing Mayhem's disheveled blonde mop and smudged red lipstick.
"Fuckers, fuckers, fuckers." I sang as I entered the living room.
"Shut up." May snorted, closing the door. "You're just jealous because you're not getting laid."
"Because nobody in this town is worth fucking." I retaliated.
"I'd be offended, but I'm not into dykes." chuckled Will, suddenly appearing in the bedroom doorway in nothing but his black skinny jeans, his black mop just as messy as May's.
"You fucking wish, asshole." I sniggered. "You'd love to fucking watch me eat Mayhem out like there ain't no tomorrow."
"That's enough." she cringed. "Will, be nice."

"I'm always nice." he smirked, lighting up a cigarette. "Besides." he blew out a wisp of smoke. "I got laid today, I'm in a good mood."
"You get laid everyday." May replied, rolling her eyes.

Another knock came at the door, and May opened it to let in the fourth member of our little quartet of rebels. Theresa, or "Tessa" for short, was a little less punk rock than the rest of us, but she still knew how to party.

"Sup, Bitches?" she giggled, fluffing up her chocolate-brown hair. "Where the beers at?"
"Fridge." Will answered, pointing toward the kitchen.

I flopped down on the couch, lighting up a cigarette as Mayhem rolled her own beside me. Tessa emerged from the kitchen, handing each of us a beer, and settled herself on the floor. This was our daily routine; meet up at Mayhem's, get drunk, get high, and then go for a beer run when the grog ran dry.

I pulled Tessa's guitar into my lap, strumming at it casually. She always kept it here, her parents would freak if ever they knew she was planning on one day getting out of this town and starting a band with the rest of us. I kept mine at home, but was reduced to only being able to play with a set of headphones plugged into my amp, lest Mother get on my case about the noise.

I cleared my throat, and began to sing a few lines of a song I'd been writing in my downtime;

"Sittin' in the back, baby park it or drive. Breathing out the cracks just to stay alive. Earthquake, body shake, joke is all on me. I remember when, I remember the time, didn't have to take just to feel alive. Eyes black head back joke is all on me..."

"Solid lyrics." Will nodded, picking up his drumsticks and beginning to tap them on the surface of the coffee table as he joined me.
I nodded in thanks, and continued;

"Blame all your life on me, blame all your life on me. I gave it all for free. Blame all your life on me. All on me, oh... All on me, oh..."

***

The sun was setting over Newark as Tessa, Mayhem and I waited outside the local 7-Eleven whilst Will acquired a fresh carton of beers. Dusk was when the bastard sons and daughters came out to play. Scattered throughout the quiet parking lot were a sea of punks, all brightly coloured hair, spikes, leather jackets, fishnet tights, leopard print and plaid skirts. My people.

"Look at this fucking place." Tessa scowled, blowing out a wisp of smoke as we leaned against the window. "It's only big enough for all the fuck-ups and the underbelly. Everything is so fucking black and white, and the good guys ain't wearing red, white and blue."
"It's like an endless dark cloud hanging over this dirty ol' town." Mayhem added, puffing at her own smoke. "The end of the world came when the twin towers went down, my friends." she pointed at the dreary suburban street with her cigarette. "This is hell."
"Well, shine your light on this, motherfucker." I piped up, pushing myself away from the window. "I got plans, baby." I grinned, bouncing from one foot to another as I tugged up the waistline of my jeans. "The dawning of a new city, and both of you guys by my side."
"Right on." Tessa nodded, bumping her fist with mine.
"New faces." said Mayhem.
"New voices." added Tessa.
"Our voices." I stated. "Our city."
"Let's blow this fucking shithole." Tessa smiled.
"It's time." Mayhem nodded.
"Los Angeles, city of shining lights." I smiled at the thought. "That's where our place is in this world..."

Notes

Welcome to yet ANOTHER fucking tale of sex, drugs and rock n roll from your favourite Ghost!!

Basically, I went to see the American Idiot musical last weekend, and now I'm fucking obsessed. This story isn't an exact copy, but it is very, very much inspired by the play.
I wasn't going to post this until I had the first three chapters written, but I am sooo into this story and the second chapter is already in the works so don't you guys fret!

Joining me on this crazy journey will be my dear friend HereticBlood6661
She'll be writing the POV of Tessa, so ya'll better show her some love in a few chapters time!!

Don't forget to Subscribe, and leave a Comment!!

Oh hellz yeah! They're one of my top five favourite bands. Taylor is one of few female vocalists I actually like these days and was the ideal choice for the voice of Jinx. I couldn't be bothered coming up with original lyrics this time, and at least this way, you get to actually hear the songs. :)
