Know Me By Name

The Roses and the Seals Part 2

JAMES POV
1885

Sharp tears reached my ears, piercing through the night. Sighing, I rose from bed, knowing I wouldn't be able to sleep with the sound. I made my why to the noise, wondering who would leave a baby somewhere out here and alone.

The cries grew louder the closer I got to the forest just behind the Rose Mansion. My eyes lit up to guide the way, casting a soft blue light on the ground. Sometimes the Warlock thing could be too much.

Laying in a pile of grey feathers was the source of the crying: a baby boy.

"Oh, you poor thing." I picked him up. "Sleep, little one." I hated using spells on little ones, but he needed it. His cries stopped as my spell took over. He weighed so little in my arms. It was only then I felt two small scars on his tiny back. Wing scars?

There couldn't be anyway this little one was an angel. There could not be. Holding him tightly to my body, I casted a spell over us to get us to the house.

"James?" Brian's voice echoed down the hall. He stopped in his tracks when he saw me clutching a baby. "What is this?"

Anger flushed his voice as his body began to tremble. Though he had been a werewolf for years, the excess of emotions could still cause an instant shift.

"Calm down. You cannot shift in front of him." I set the baby down and quickly cast a spell to cover his scars. No one could know what he was.

The scars disappeared, and I put a protection shield around him in the hopes it would quell his powers. There was no doubt he would have to get it redone every year but for now, his powers would be repressed.

"He is an angel, Brian." I looked at my old friend. "And the Roses are going to need to protect him."

He sneered. Werewolves had never cared for angels; none of us really did. "Well, what's his name?"

I paused. "Call him Zander."

"Kaylee is not going to like this." He walked out of the room.

Staring after him, I had to agree. She was not going to like this. But we were the Rose Guard after all.

KAYLEE'S POV

1864

I watched the warlock move. He moved as if he was very old when he truly appeared to be a young man. Due to their demon blood, warlocks were immortal.

The longer I spent around these supernatural creatures, the more comfortable I became. They were not as terrible as the Council had made them out to be. In fact, they felt more like family than many of the angels did. They certainly treated me better than those in Heaven, but my heart still ached for Matthew.

The Roses provided a nice distraction from that. Each day, they taught me something new. The supernatural had been abandoned by Lucifer when she learned they couldn't be controlled. She had hoped they would hate Man the same way she did. What she had done instead was create something Man hated.

Werewolves were the first Man targeted. Though they appeared like humans, the first shift frightened Man. They thought the weres were there to kill them off. Unlike vampires, werewolves didn't hunt humans. But they were hunted anyway. They were the first to start the meetings, just among their own clans. They only wanted a solution to their deaths.

When the witch trials began, the warlocks were quick to follow the werewolves. It was the first time the supernatural had joined together. The warlocks cast spells to protect the clans. In turn, the wolves made sure the warlocks weren't burned to death.

The vampires had followed shortly after, afraid Man would learn that they only came out at night. Man saw werewolves and vampires as natural enemies, but they were friends. Man was the only common enemy the supernatural had.

Nephilim were the last to come. They had some powers of angels and didn't really need the protection from the other three, but the felt obligated to help in some way. Had the Nephilim not joined, the Roses would be much weaker.

It was James and a werewolf I had just met named Brian that had created the Rose Council. They were determined to change the attitudes of Man. And I wanted to help them.

Notes

FINALLY THE SECOND PART!!!

Alright y'all I know I've been MIA for the last few days. Here's the deal... I have been dealing with a really, really bad case of OCD. I have this thing were I get obsessive thoughts that just won't go away. It has been distracting from my writing to the point where I actually wanted to quit writing in general. Anyway, I realized that this week is the anniversary of something really fucking bad, and I finally just wrote about what happened. I feel good.

I have also had a flare up of my autoimmune. My autoimmune makes my joints swell and my fingers stop working. It's super hard to write without your hands XD um and lastly, I got a new job! So, exciting stuff for me! But I am doing so much better!!
