Chapter seven

Brian POV

Standing in front of Nikki’s door, I couldn’t help but feel a little nervous. She’s so different than all of the other girls I’ve encountered over the past few years. She’s smart, she’s beautiful, she’s funny, and she really just doesn’t give a shit that I’m famous. She sees me as Brian, not Synyster Gates, and I think that’s one of my favorite things about her. The door slowly opens and she appeared on the other side of it, looking absolutely beautiful. Her hair was curled ever so slightly, and the dress she was wearing looked amazing. “Hey Bri, come on in.” She grinned, holding the door open. “Hey,” I said, kissing her cheek and sticking out the hand that was holding a bouquet of lilies. “These are for you.” “Oh thank you so much, they’re beautiful! Let me put them in water really quick and then we can go.” She said, taking the flowers and walking toward the kitchen, giving me another view of her in that damn dress. Her legs looked like they were a mile long and her ass looked amazing. “You look gorgeous.” I told her, sitting on a stool at the breakfast bar. “Thank you, You look pretty damn good yourself.” She said with a smile, placing the flowers in water. “You ready to go? I just have to grab my purse.” She asked, walking over to the table beside the door and grabbing a small bag. “Yep, Let’s do it.” I told her, grabbing her hand and leading her out the door.

Once we got to the restaurant, I ordered a bottle of wine while she looked over the menu. “All of this sounds really good.” She said, looking over the choices. “I think I’m going to have the steak, medium rare, with a loaded baked potato and house salad dressing.” She told the waiter. I smiled at her choice of meal, she wasn’t one of those girls who didn’t eat around guys, thank god. I hate that shit. I gave my order and we made small talk while waiting on our salads. We were halfway through them when she brought up the first heavy topic of the night. “So, you want to tell me what’s going on between you and Zack?” She started, giving me a questioning look, “You can’t say nothing because I saw the looks you were giving him last night. If I wouldn’t have been sitting between you two you probably would have hit him.” She chuckled. I let out a heavy sigh and set my fork down. “You really want to know?” I asked, earning a nod from her. “Alright. He knows I’m interested in you so he flirts with you to get under my skin. Don’t ask me why he does it, but sometimes he’s a jackass.” I explained. “But doesn’t he have a girlfriend? I’m pretty sure she would not be okay with the harmless flirting.” She said, taking a sip of her wine. “No you’re right, she would be pissed. But he says their relationship is pretty much over. It’s so toxic between them. They fight more than they get along.” “I can understand that.” She nodded, “I’ve definitely been there.” “So tell me about this ex-boyfriend of yours.” I started, pushing my salad plate to the edge of the table, “Youve heard all about the Michelle saga, it’s your turn to spill the beans lady.” She smiled sadly and was playing with the stem of her wine glass. “You mean ex-fiancée.” She corrected, “We had been together for a year and a half before we decided to become engaged. He joined the army and I stuck beside him through it all, even moved away from my family to be with him. It was about seven months into his year long deployment when I was told about him cheating with another girl from his unit. He couldn’t deny it because I had received an email with some incriminating pictures.” “Damn. What a dick. Want me to kick his ass?” I joked, making her smile. “No, he isn’t worth it. Anyway, I waited until he called me that night to let him know I was leaving him. Dani came up and helped me pack my shit and we just started driving and didn’t stop until we ended up here.” She shrugged. “You guys seem like you’re very close.” “We are.” She smiled, clearly thinking of her twin sister, “She’s my very best friend. I don’t know what or where I’d be without her, she helped me find myself again.” Our entrees arrived soon after that and somehow she ate every bite of her food. “Oh my god that was delicious.” She sighed, placing her napkin on the table and drinking the rest of the wine in her glass. “Want to run by the shop? Erin left some brownies for me.” She wiggled her eyebrows, making me laugh. “You just ate that enormous steak and a baked potato and you’re already thinking about dessert?” “There’s one thing you’ll learn about me, Brian. I love food.” She smiled, “I’m not one of those girls who watches what she eats. I mean sure I have a high metabolism or whatever but I’ll eat as long as I’m hungry.” “I like that about you.” I smiled. Once we left the restaurant we stopped by the bakery to pick up the brownies and headed to my place for dessert.
