Times Like These

The next morning I woke up with a groan. “Holy fuck.” I said to myself, holding my head. I looked over to the nightstand to check my phone and noticed a bottle of water and some Advil sitting by my phone. “Thank god for Dani.” I mumbled, taking four of the pills and drinking some water. I got out of bed and walked into the bathroom to do my business and brush my teeth, then walked into the kitchen to find something to eat. I searched the cabinets and found nothing, so I went back to bed, our kitten Charlie on my heels. Since I was off from the bakery today, I had every intention of staying in bed with Charlie and binge watching Netflix.

The next time I woke up, I felt someone sitting on my bed. My eyes popped open and I saw Brian sitting there with a smile on his face. “Hey sleepy head, how are ya feeling?” “I’m feeling decent, and don’t think I’m being an asshole, but what are you doing here?” I laughed groggily. “Well I wanted to come check on you and Dani let me in. She said, and I quote, ‘go wake her bitch ass up, she’s been sleeping all day.’ So I did.” He chuckled. I rolled my eyes and sat up in the bed. “Typical Dani.” “Actually I have another question for you.” He said, scratching Charlie’s head, he looked almost nervous. “What’s up Brian?” “Do you wanna go out with me? Like on a date?” I felt my heart speed up and smiled at him. “I’d love to. Just let me know when I need to be ready.” “How about tonight? I’ll pick you up at 7.” He said with a smile. “Tonight sounds good. But do you want to go grab some lunch? I’m starving and I’m sure Dani has already ate.” I asked, getting out of bed to find some clothes to put on. “Well that is if you don’t mind going out in public with me without makeup, I could always ask Zack if he wants to go.” I teased, looking at him over my shoulder with a smirk. “Nope. I’ll go with you. And you look beautiful without makeup.” He grinned. I walked into the bathroom with my clothes in my hand. “Okay, let me change and we’ll go.”

Once I had changed into a pair of leggings and a v-neck tunic, I threw my hair into a messy bun and walked out and grabbed some sandals from my closet. “That was fast. You look great.” He said, following me out of the room. “Thanks.” I said, grabbing my purse and keys. “Hey Dani, I’m gonna go grab lunch with Bri, want me to bring you anything?” I asked my sister, who was sitting on the couch watching tv. “I’m good. Be careful.” “You got it.” Brian said, opening the door for me and following me out. He went to grab his keys out of his pocket when I held mine up. “Nope. You’re the passenger today.” He went to argue but just shrugged his shoulders and walked with me to the Jeep. We climbed in and I started it, Ted Nugent flowing through the speakers. “You just keep surprising me.” He said with a laugh. I just shrugged my shoulders and sang along to the radio. “So Brian, how do you feel about tacos?” I asked, looking over at him. “They go great with beer.” He chuckled, grabbing my hand. “Tacos it is.” I said, pulling into the parking lot at The Taco House.

Lunch was delicious, and the company was even better. Brian and I made small talk through most of it, and once we were back in the apartment parking lot he said he had to go talk to Matt, and would see me later for our date. As soon as I walked into the front door I yelled for Dani. “What?! Where’s the fire?” She yelled, walking out of her bedroom. “I’m going on a date with Brian tonight.” I said nervously. “So? Matt’s cooking me dinner tonight.” She said with a shrug. “So what am I going to wear? I don’t have date clothes!” I screeched, making her laugh. “Wait, are you nervous?” “No. Yes. Maybe. Shut up Daniel. I need help!” I whined, while Dani kept laughing. “Okay, lets go look in your closet.” We walked into my bedroom and she dug into the very back of my closet, where I kept my dresses. “A dress? Ugh.” I said, sitting on the bed. “Shut up. It’s a fucking date.” She said, her voice muffled by clothes. “Here it is!” She said, pulling out a black pencil dress. “Okay.” I sighed, “I can do this. No problem. Thanks sis.” She smiled and left the room, going to get ready for her own date. I turned on some music and started getting ready. I curled my hair slightly so it looked like waves, and put on some makeup. I went with a smoky eye and a dark red matte lipstick and then put on the dress. I decided to add my leather jacket and a pair of black heels and looked at myself in the mirror. All that was missing was jewelry, so I grabbed a pair of diamond studs and a silver cuff bracelet and was ready to go. I was turning off my music and turning off my bedroom light when the doorbell rang. I walked over and opened it to reveal Brian, and boy did he look handsome.
