Chapter thirty-eight

"Baby, you gotta wake up" Brian said softly in my ear as I groaned and shoved my face further into my pillow. "Leave me alone." I whined, pushing my laughing boyfriend away. "Come on babe, you've gotta get up. You have a busy day today." He said, playing with my hair. I sighed heavily and rolled over, opening my eyes to look at Brian, who had a huge smile on his face. "Why are you so damn happy this morning?" I grumbled, causing his grin to widen. Brian handed me four ibuprofen and a glass of water, "Nothing at all, it's just a good day." I took the pills and chugged the water before speaking again, "What's your plan for today?" Brian shrugged and watched me walk into our closet, trying to dig out something to wear today. "I'll probably go hang out with Zack, maybe hit the beach or something." He shrugged as I was walking back out of the closet with a pair of shorts and a Metallica tshirt in my hand. "Don't act like you're not going to lay around with the dogs all day." I joked, walking into the bathroom to take a shower, Brian getting off the bed and following me. "Maybe I am, maybe I'm not. You'll never know." He grinned. I laughed as I was pulling Brian's old tshirt over my head and turned to look at him. "You gonna stand there and stare or are you gonna join me?" Brian's eyes widened in realization and he quickly stripped out of his clothes and followed me into the shower.

A few hours later, I was sitting in a bridal boutique with my mom, sister, and Lacey. Mom was talking to the store clerk about god knows what, Dani was sporting a pair of sunglasses and a grumpy look on her face, and Lacey and I were all smiles. "How the fuck are you smiling right now? I don't even want to hold my head up." Dani grumbled. "I had a good morning." I said with a shrug, which caused Lacey to laugh. "Brian must be really good at what he does." "Oh Lace, you have no idea." I said seriously, which only made her to laugh harder. Dani shook her head and went to stand up. "Good grief. I'm going to talk to mom before I puke." Lacey and I were still laughing when Dani and mom returned to the sitting area and motioned for us to follow them. "Come on, she's pulling dresses for your sister, and I know you wanted to pick a few out for her." Mom said, giving me a look. "Shit. We better behave or she's gonna yell." I whispered to Lacey with a giggle.

After at least thirty minutes of looking through dresses, I was shoved in a dressing room with my sister and an assortment of tulle, silk, and lace. "Alright, let's get this show on the road." I said to Dani, motioning for her to strip out of her jeans and tshirt so we could try the first dress on. After five dresses, she still had not found one she loved, so I begged her to try on one I picked out. She relented and once I took a look at her in this dress, I knew it was the one. We walked out of the dressing room, and mom's eyes automatically filled with tears. "Dani, that's beautiful honey." She said softly, coming to stand beside us. I looked at my sister in the mirror and tears filled my own eyes. The dress fit her perfectly, from the sweetheart neckline, to the fitted bodice and the way it flared out right as it hit her hips. It was perfect for her. "Guys stop crying or I'm going to cry." Dani said with a laugh, wiping a stray tear from her eye. The clerk put a beaded headband in Dani's hair, and that was all it took for my sister to start crying. "I can't believe this is finally happening." She said, admiring herself in the mirror. "I look like a bride." "You are a bride, sweetheart." Mom said with small chuckle. Once Dani decided this was the dress she was going to buy, she decided that it was time for Lacey and I to find a dress. "Okay, we've got three months to find you guys a dress, so let's get to it. Come on, Nikki. You've gotta get me out of this thing." She said, dragging me back into the room.

Another hour had passed, and after trying on six different dresses, of random ass colors and lengths, Dani finally decided on a dress for Lacey and I. It was a dark gray strapless dress, with a sweetheart neckline and it flowed all the way to the floor. I was standing in the mirror, looking at myself from all angles when a head of short brown hair came into my line of vision. "Well, if you're not the most beautiful girl in the building." Brian said smoothly, as I whipped around to look at him. "What are you doing here?" I laughed, looking over to see Matt trying to peek at Dani's dress that was still hanging in the dressing room. "We were bored. Wanted to see if you were done yet and wanted to go get food." My boyfriend shrugged. I rolled my eyes playfully and looked over at Matt. "If you peek in that dressing room and see that dress I will kill you with my bare hands." Matt closed the door and looked at me with his mouth open, while Brian started laughing. "I'm not kidding, Matthew. She tried on six fucking dresses and finally found one she loves, and if you see it then she's going to have to go find another one you haven't seen. I will kill you." The hazel eyed man held his hands up and backed away from the dressing room, "Okay, I won't touch it. Jeeze." Lacey was standing in her spot beside me, laughing hysterically, which caused me to start laughing. "I'm just kidding. But seriously. I can't handle any more dresses today." I said to Matt, who laughed as he threw an arm around Dani's shoulders, "I'm sure it couldn't have been that bad." "She's a dictator when it comes to wedding planning and picking out dresses. I might be traumatized." Lacey spoke up, while I nodded. "She's right." "Oh shut up you two and go change your clothes. I'm hungry." Dani said with an eye roll. I gave Brian a quick kiss before heading into my dressing room. Once I was changed back into my clothes and had paid for my dress, I was in the passenger seat of my Jeep, listening to Brian chatter about his morning hanging out with Matt, and pretty soon we were pulling into the parking lot of my favorite restaurant, and I was definitely not expecting what was coming next.

Notes

Sorry it took me so long to update, August has been a rough month for my family. My stepmom was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer and it's kind of hit me really hard. Anyway, here's kind of a filler chapter, hopefully I'll be back soon to update. Thanks for reading guys!
