Shepherd of Fire

I Don't Belong Here, I Gotta Move On

Aphrodite’s first labor had lasted days and the second was no different. She was a complete champion about it--just as strong as she was beautiful. Michael paced and worried and called in healers of all sorts while she insisted they do this alone--that she only wanted him to be there when their baby arrived. He was constantly amazed at how she just steeled through it--the contractions lasted hours, but so did the breaks. After a little sleep, she’d even get up and do things like a normal day.
Anteros was now a greek god of a young man and he sometimes helped soothe his mother through the long, painful hours--singing to her and waving his stunning wings so that air cooled her sweating body.

“Father, do we know whether I’ll have a sister or a brother?” His innocent smile lit up the room as he held his sleeping mother.
“No, not yet son.” Michael sat at the edge of bed, looking over the quiet, striking features of her face. He really shouldn’t be surprised she was so amazing and strong, she was His after all.
In her fourth day, Aphrodite finally entered her final phase and screamed and pushed until the love of her life held their second child.

*******

Michael held his second baby boy as his gorgeous smile refused to leave his face. Just as he handed him back to his mother, who lay up against the pillows recovering from her days of labor, the male angel cried out in pain and caught himself on the bed--fingers digging into the down comforter as his body rippled in debilitating pain.

“Michael!?” Aphrodite held her baby close and looked to her lover.

Buckling to his knees and gasping for air, the angel clutched at the bed as his back ripped open. Blood splattered against the walls and floor and bed as a small being climbed out of the quivering angel.
Flapping its small dragon wings, hazel golden fiery eyes looked around and back at a shocked and horrified Aphrodite before looking down at one of his fathers--the one that had birthed him.

The being had a mohawk of scales over his small scalp and halfway down his back between his wings that were dark and dragon-like, yet had dark gray feathers. It fluttered to the ground and sat on the floor next to the healing Michael, folding in its wings.

When Michael had recovered, he slowly looked down to find scared, beautiful, familiar looking eyes staring up at him. Leaning over, he scooped the frightened, winged creature up into his huge arms and held him close. The hazel eyes calmed as tiny hands clung to the angel’s heaving chest.

The huge smile on Michael’s face faded, though, when he turned and saw the look on his promised’s face.

“Aph…” He cleared his throat, his voice barely sounding due to the impending fear of what he knew would happen. He choked back a sob as he pleaded, “...He’s my son.”

Light blue eyes met his and he knew he’d have to choose.

************

“Michael, you got alotta nerve summoning me here when you’re the one who asked me to stay away!” Shadows’ words came through clenched teeth when He practically roared into the room as the angel tried not to fall under His trance.

But as the archangel held up the winged child, whose wide hazel eyes mirrored His own, Shadows stopped dead in his tracks. Looking over the un-heavenly features, the Devil swallowed hard at the implications that he was slowly threading together--shock and love mixing over His face.

“Michael…” His deep baritone was broken and crashing to pieces around them.

The angel closed the space in between them and handed Shadows the small, scared baby that immediately clung to Him instinctively, making His black heart swell.
Michael swept large tears away from his eyes, trying to keep it together, “He’s not safe here. Nor will he be wanted by anyone else but me.”

Shadows stared blankly at Michael, His mind still catching up to what had apparently actually happened between the two of them, “Wh-when did this happen?”

Blue eyes finally met His, “Yesterday. I had no idea I was carrying. He just--sprouted out of my back all at once.”
“Sounds terrifying.”
“It was. The pain was overwhelming...but completely worth it.” A smile ghosted the angel’s face as he put a hand to the small being’s back. The child turned back to Michael, giving him a pleading look.

“Don’t look at me like that, little one. You’re better off with Him. This is your other father and His home with be a good fit for you,” Michael began his tearful goodbye, “You be a good little boy for me, okay?”
It curled into Shadows’ chest and nodded sadly as a large hand cradled its small head.
“You can take him, care for him, love him, right?” Michael whispered hoarsely.
“Of course.”

The two males looked longingly at one another before Shadows knew He had to go, and He left with their love child.

*************

I had just come back from a mission with Andro and was having a drink in front of the fireplace, resting on the couch, when Shadows showed up in front of me.

The sight of Him holding a small being in those big arms so lovingly, at first had me sighing inside. But then I could see the bond He clearly had with this child, and the look in His dark golden eyes as He looked down at me. It was full of warning and question. Not having any idea who this child was, I slowly stood up and looked into its adorable face. He had large, scared hazel eyes that took my breath away as they stared at me because I knew them well.
“Who’s this?” My voice cracked when I tried to ask.

Shadows’ apologetic gaze met mine as His hand soothed over the child’s small back between its unusual looking wings, “This is my son. And Michael’s.”

I inhaled in pure shock and stepped away. Sitting back down on the couch, I thought I might be sick. I had no idea how to feel about my Lover having a child with someone else.

“Darling, I know it’s a lot to process--I just now found out myself. But he won’t be welcome in Heaven. I know it’s so much to ask, D….”

The little thing batted his wings and flew out of Shadows’ arms and landed next to me on the couch. I looked up from where I had my head in my hands to find it looking up at me with the cutest look on its face. His little wing reached up and stroked my cheek and his little hand tugged at my clothes. I furrowed my brow down at him--wanting to be angry but unable to be. When it all out reached up for me, I gave up as a huge smile plastered itself over my face. Standing up, I took the little guy in my arms and when he smiled and then giggled--his Father’s dimples appearing on appled cheeks--my heart melted. My Love encircled us both in His arms as the same smile appeared on His lips and His deep laugh filled the room.

Notes

oh god the drama! and cuteness! what just happened.

*i tried, i really tried to make Anteros someone else besides Hemsworth, but he just so goddamn perfect for what I see in this character: think younger Chris before he was so oh my god Thor huge.
*I actually wanted him to be Brock Holt, but COULD NOT find any pics I liked of him. Although, if you want to see one adorable bromance, look up him and Andrew Benentendi. Ohhhh, man.
