“Elizabeth, you look gorgeous sweet heart” he said as he walked up to us.
“Ye-Yeah thanks I think” I stammered.
“Congratulations Matthew she is even more beautiful than I remembered” he nodded politely.
“Yes, she is beautiful, thank you for helping with the arrangement’s” Matthew politely spoke with his eyes on me.
“But you remarried, and had your own kids” I glared.
“Yeah, well the whole family is in attendance. You are still my daughter,” he explained as he pointed towards the group he was with where his wife, and two daughters stood.
“I can’t believe you, how could you bring them here? I raised my voice and dug my nails in to Matthews arm.
“Well sweetie, we can have this conversation another time when you are not on edge.” He sighed.
His wife and two daughters walked over, she wrapped an arm around him and smiled. His daughters who I didn’t even know their names stood at his other side. The older one glared right at me while the younger smiled fake.
“Girls you already know Matt,” my dad smiled “And this is your older sister Elizabeth.”
“Hi Matt, looking sharp” the eldest smiled up at matt.
“Thank you Launa, you look just as lovely as your older sister, you both do.” Matthew smiled.
“There not my sisters, I already have a family,” I pulled my hand away from Matthew and walked on holding the tears of anger back.
I avoided eye contact as I made my way to the other side of the room. Everyone whispered as I passed, just low enough for me to not catch a word. I arrived at a long well adorned table with a long paper in the center and two quills on either side and over it two glass bowls with what looked like athames on either side. Curiously I read the heading of the paper ‘Contract of Binding’ then it had fancy writing under. The writing was so fancy that I could only make out Matthews and my own names. It must have been the marriage certificate thing. I looked over to a strikingly beautiful blond who was dressed in black and white, she had green eyes and platinum blonde hair up in a fancy vintage look.
“Hi, do you know how long these things take?” I didn’t care that I sounded rude and unimpressed.
“Um no, sorry I’ve actually never attended an arrangement like this. Maybe some cava would suit you well.” She smiled holding up her glass of bubbly.
“I’m not 21 years old yet, thank you though. My names Elizabeth,” I extended my hand.
“Trust me with Matt standing behind you no one will stop you from having a dink, live a little.” She winked and picked up a glass from a waiter as he walked by, “you can call me Val.”
“Pleasure,” I took the glass and looked behind me.
Matthew was smiling as always quietly, he placed his hand on my back forcing the icy shiver to dance up my spine and in to my stomach.
“Are you in a hurry to leave,” he asked.
“I know you don’t know me very well and you might not even care but if you ever offend me like that again,” I turned and angrily whispered.
“You’ll what, go on finish your sentence.” He leaned in closer.
“Trust me you won’t want to find out, let’s just get this over with” I sipped the drink.
“My thoughts exactly,” he said as he turned to the room.
Behind Matthew I saw Brian with three other guys, as soon as he saw me staring he lightly shook his head. I had let my feeling rule me and from what Brian had said earlier I would surly pay the price. Maybe I could make it up to Matthew before the party is over.
