Strength Of The World

The rest of their weekend went by uneventful, and it was now Sunday evening. They had arrived back from the lake house earlier than expected, and decided to surprise their parents with their good news. They had gone to the store and found some really cute onesies to surprise them with. One said "hi grandma and grandpa!" And the other said "I love grandma and grandpa". They put them in individual bags and stuffed tissue paper in them and decided to go visit Zack's parents first. When Maria Baker pulled the onesie out of the bag her jaw dropped. "Zachary James does this mean what I think it means?!" She asked him, looking over at the man whose arm was wrapped tightly around Peyton's shoulders. "It means exactly what you think it means." He grinned at his mother. Without another word she jumped out of her chair and walked as quickly as she could over to Peyton and pulled her into a hug. "Congratulations sweetheart. I'm so happy for you two." She pulled back and looked at the younger woman with tears in her eyes. "I had always hoped you and Zack would wind up back together. Hopefully it's for good this time." She released her hold on Peyton and pulled her son into a hug. "And you. I can't believe you're making me a grandma at such a young age." She joked, causing her son to laugh. "Mom, you already have grandkids." He chuckled. "Yeah but you're my baby!" She said, kissing his cheek. They spent a few hours with Zack's parents before heading over to the Smith residence, where Peyton was pretty sure her mom was going to pass out from shock. "Oh my god Dan we're finally getting a grand baby!" She shouted at her husband, who was just as happy as she was. He walked over to shake Zack's hand while Becky was hugging her daughter tightly, tears falling freely down her face. "Congratulations son." He said, "You know what comes next right?" "Yes sir. I've already got that covered, Dan." Zack smiled, looking over at Peyton. "There's no way in hell I wouldn't want her to marry me. Baby or no baby." "That's what I like to hear. I'm proud of you, Zack." Their conversation was cut short when a crying Becky flung herself into Zack's arms. Daniel walked over to his daughter and wrapped her tiny frame in his arms. "Are you happy baby?" He asked, placing a kiss on top of her head. "I am, daddy. The happiest I've been in a long time." She said softly. "Well if you're happy then I'm happy. Just make sure my grandkid has good taste in music." He said, making her laugh. "I really don't think that'll be a problem dad." They wound up ordering takeout with Peyton's parents, and made sure they kept the baby news a secret for now. "The guys don't know yet." Peyton explained, "We're telling them after I go to the doctor this week."

The next day at work Peyton called her friend who worked for the ONGYN's office, and she got her an appointment that same day. So she called Zack and had him meet her there on her break, and they were currently sitting in the exam room waiting for the doctor to come in. Peyton was on the table, and Zack was right beside her with his hand on top of hers. Once the doctor came in she started the ultrasound. "Okay, let's see here. Peyton is this your first pregnancy?" She asked, eyes focused on the screen. "Yep, it is." Peyton replied, trying to figure out what she was looking at on the screen. Soon she saw what looked to be like a little jelly bean. "And there is your little baby." The doctor said, pointing to the screen. "It looks like you're about eight weeks along. Let's see if we can get a heartbeat." Peyton squeezed Zack's hand and looked up at him with a huge smile, his expression mirroring hers. Within seconds, they heard the fast pace of a heartbeat fill the room. "Oh my god." Zack whispered. Peyton's eyes filled with tears as she listened to her baby's heartbeat. The doctor pointed out different things on the ultrasound and took some measurements before she finished. "Okay guys, everything looks great. We have your due date here to be about early July." She explained to them, handing Peyton pictures of the ultrasound. "We will see you back in four weeks, congratulations!" She shook their hands and left the room. Peyton was sitting there, staring at the pictures in disbelief. "Zack. We're having a baby." She whispered and looked up at her boyfriend with tears in her eyes. "We are baby. And it's going to be so awesome." He said, pulling her off the exam table and into his arms. "It's gonna be us against the world. You, me, and baby Baker, who is totally going to be a girl by the way." "Oh, you think so?" She laughed. "I think it's going to be a boy. A handsome guitar player like his daddy." "You forgot bad ass." He added with a smirk. "Yeah. A total badass." She said with an eye roll. "Come on baby daddy," she said, grabbing her things and putting her arm through his. "Let's go. I'm starving." He laughed and wrapped his arm around her shoulders and they went to lunch before Peyton went back to work.

This was a kind of short chapter tonight, but I wanted to get one out before I fell asleep. Hopefully I will get a longer one out sometime tomorrow or Tuesday! Thanks for reading!
