Gunslingers

Brian burst into my office and dragged me out into the infirmary. I opened my mouth to protest but then I heard the screams. They were unlike anything I'd heard. It was like they were in sheer agony. Whoever it was needed me desperately.

"Who is that?" I asked as I ran to grab my medical bag.

Brian hesitated. "Rae."

A weird sense of calm entered my body as I gathered the rest of my supplies and headed to the screaming. Rae was clinging to Matthew Sanders, tears streaming down her face.

"What happened?" I asked, setting my med bag down.

Rae just kept screaming, so Matt turned to me. "Um... well, we were making out on my couch, and Rae moved her damaged arm around me. That's when the screaming started."

Blood leaked from Rae's shoulder. This was not good at all. I think I needed an actual doctor her. Rae was still hiding against Matt. And he had pissed me off with that story.

"Rae, I need you to lie down."

She just kept screaming as Matthew gently pushed her down onto the bed. Matt gently held her down as I took off her shirt. Her shoulder was slowly seeping blood and was an angry red. She'd ripped her stitches out.

"It hurts so badly." Rae blubbered. "What did you do, Matt?"

Matt's eyes widened. He stared at her. "I... I... didn't... I'm...sorry." He stroked her hair.

I watched all this happen while I sterilized my equipment. Who knew the SEAL had a heart? And who knew the muscle head was in love with my girl?

"Wait, Rae. Can you feel your arm?" I asked.

"Yes!" She screamed and thrashed around on the bed. "Make the pain stop!"

I injected a dose of morphine and started to clean and stitch her shoulder. At least the screaming subsided. She was finally relaxing which let me dress her wound.

Once it was dressed, she curled into Matt's side and fell asleep. Matt smiled down at her and thanked me. I nodded and pulled Brian along with me. He looked back at them and grinned.

"Do you think Sanders is in loved?" Brian held the door open for me so I could inform the new nurse about Rae.

I frowned at him. "I've known Sanders since he came to Cornado, he doesn't do love."

"Yeah, he's like that, but he seems to care for her. I really only see that with him when he's with us-- his friends. He's in love."

I scribbled something down for Nurse Nancy and then gathered my stuff. Rae had to stay the night, and I needed to sleep. Lately, I'd been doing that at Brian's mainly. If Sanders was in love, what were Brian and I?

I mean, all my girls (except Rae) had paired off. Carol had been with Jimmy for two years which was perfect because they were equally crazy. I think Carol was going to propose to Jimmy at this point. Sarah had hit if off with Johnny. He'd asked her to be his girlfriend. Then there was Maeve. She'd met Zacky in the swimming pool, and they'd started dating. So what were Brian and I?

Brian stopped me. I hadn't even noticed we'd made it to his apartment. He smiled at me, and I again found myself wondering what our relationship was.

"Haner, what are we?"

"Humans." He flashed a smile at me. "Or are you asking about our relationship?" Brian sat down on his couch, pulling me onto his lap.

"The second part."

He gently traced a design on my leg. "Well, I'm pretty sure you're my girlfriend. Did I miss an update on that?"

"Since when?!?!"

He kissed my forehead. "Since about three weeks ago. Wow, come here." He kissed my mouth. This mad was truly amazing, and I think I loved him.
