Fallen

chapter fifteen

“What do you want to drink?” I turned my attention to the six-year old sitting on my kitchen counter. His hazel eyes looked up at me and a small smile crept onto his face, looking just like his father with the dimples. He shrugged his shoulders and I laughed, “Water? Milk? Orange juice? Capri Sun? A coke?”

“A coke,” he beamed.

I grabbed the can and handed it to him, “Don’t tell your mom I let you drink this in my house… and don’t drink it too fast.”

He nodded his head while cracking the can open, taking a sip of the syrupy soda. Things had been good since Matt invited me to breakfast with him and River. Turns out that the little guy did not hate me as much as I thought he did, but he was just worried about someone else occupying his dads time now that Matt was home again. I had assured River that I wanted him to have as much time with his dad as he desired, and he told me that he liked how much I made Matt laugh and smile. Today, Matt had to stay late at the studio although he had the boys, so he asked if I could pick up both Cash and River from school and keep them here until he was getting back.

River stayed sitting on the counter while the smaller two boys were playing in the living room. I was throwing together something for dinner and getting to know River while doing so. Now that I had the six-year old to myself, he was nearly an open book, just like his dad.

“When I grow up I want to be a veterinarian,” River smiled while sipping his drink. “I told Dad we need to get a puppy now that he is home again.”

I laughed while putting the food for the kids in the oven, dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets. There was chicken parmesan in there for Matt and I. “What did he say about getting a puppy?”

“He said no,” the little boy frowned. “He said we still have Bella at Mom’s house.”

I pursed my lips, thinking to myself that Matt must’ve had a stick up his ass about the puppy thing. Who didn’t want a puppy? I knew Carson wanted a puppy, and I wanted one, too, but we were just finally settling into our home. Matt was going to be home for the next however long, he should get a damn dog. “Let me talk to him about a puppy. Maybe I can make a deal with him where he gets a puppy, and then when he goes on tour it can live over here. What do you think?”

“That’s a great idea!” He shouted, his teeth showing and grin wide. “Thank you, Liv. That would be so cool!”

“No promises that he will say yes, but I’ll try my best,” I stuck my tongue out at River. “How about you hop down and go watch some TV? I need to use the stove and don’t want to burn you.”

“Can I help you cook?” He asked while jumping off the counter. I turned to look at him and he had his bottom lip jutted out, an eyebrow raised, “Please.”

I smiled, “Let me chop up the vegetables and then you can mix the salad. How’s that sound?”

“Sounds cool,” he smiled and patiently waited for me to finish chopping up all the veggies for the salad. He washed his hands then got to work, afterwards he set the table and grabbed drinks for everybody. I was pulling the food out of the oven and setting it on the table when I heard his voice again, “Do you know what time my Dad will be here?”

I glanced over at the microwave, reading six o’clock. I shrugged, “Hopefully soon, bud. You guys can eat before he gets here. I’m sure you are starving. Do you want to go get your brother and Carson?”

River nodded and ran into the living room, ushering the small boys into the kitchen for dinner. They all sat down and began eating, so I took the time to step out onto the back porch and call Matt. It’s not that I didn’t mind spending time with the boys, especially getting to know River, without him around. I just wasn’t sure how late he was planning on being tonight, and if I needed to plan for showers and bed time. I pulled my phone from my pocket and leaned against the house, pressing on Matt’s name and hearing it dial.

“Hey, beautiful,” Matt’s voice came through the phone sweetly. At least he didn’t sound as stressed as he did when he called asking me to pick up the boys. “Everyone behaving?”

I smiled to myself, “Everyone is good. They’re all eating dinner now. I just wanted to call and see when you think you’ll be heading over here. No rush at all; I know you’re busy.”

A sigh came through the phone, “We have just one more song to lay down and then I’ll be there. Probably a couple of hours at the least, though. Might not be there until after nine. Are you okay to put the boys to bed? I’ll probably just crash at your place if that is alright with you.”

“Of course that is fine, Matt. Call me when you’re on your way, but if I’m already asleep there will be food in the fridge. Good luck,” my smile slightly fell, realizing that I probably wouldn’t see him until the morning, or if I woke up when he entered the house. It was okay, though, he was just as dedicated to his work as I was to mine. No point in getting jealous over a recording studio for taking up his time.

“You’re amazing, you know that?” He laughed, “Thank you, Liv. I’ll talk to you in a little.”

I went back into the house and decided to sit down and eat my portion of dinner with the three boys. We made conversation about how school was going, what they were looking forward to with summer coming up and Cash’s birthday right around the corner. After dinner, River helped me clean up. He rinsed the dishes and put them in the dishwasher while I put the leftovers in the fridge. I told him that since he was such a good helper, he could have an ice cream sandwich as a reward. He seemed to really like that I let him have a treat for helping out, and kept thanking me over and over. It felt good to have a relationship forming between he and I, even if I was just using positive reinforcement training on him like I do with my animals at work.

River showered first, then I let him pick something on TV while I gave Cash and Carson their baths then put them to bed. When I came into the living room I saw him sitting in a hoodie and flannel PJ pants, looking just like a miniature version of his father, his hazel eyes glued to the screen in front of him. He was watching a documentary on National Geographic about sharks.

“You like animals, huh?” I nudged him with my shoulder while plopping down next to him. He nodded with a smile, not taking his eyes off the television. “Maybe I can talk your dad into me bringing you to the zoo one day. You could come meet all the animals and my baby bear.”

“That would be so cool,” he smiled and turned to look at me. “My favorite animals are porcupines. Do you guys have porcupines?”

I smiled, “We do! We have a couple different kind of porcupines. Some of them are even friendly and you can give them a peanut.”

“I want to give them a peanut!” He yelled, but the yell soon turned into a yawn. “Did my dad say when he was getting here?”

I looked at the television, “He won’t be home until late. Head on to bed if you are tired, Riv. You can stay in the guest room and he’ll cook you guys breakfast tomorrow once I head to work.”

“Okay,” River smiled and got up from the couch, stretching. “Goodnight, Liv. Thanks for dinner.”

I smiled at him before he headed down the hallway, “Goodnight.”

I curled up on the couch and continued watching the shark documentary that River had put on. It was interesting, but I knew that most likely I’d never step foot in the ocean again after watching it. Once it was over, it was getting close to 9PM and I still had yet to hear from Matt. I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water, nearly chugging it and heading off to take a shower. Once I showered I slipped on a pair of cheeky underwear and a tank top, then slid into bed. I turned the light out on my bedside table and put my phone on loud, in case Matt called, and drifted off to sleep.

I woke up to the feeling of the other side of the bed sinking down, then arms slinking around my waist pulling me into a muscular chest. The scent of Matt’s cologne plus cigarette smoke filled my nostrils as I took in a deep breath. Matt had told me that he quit smoking some time ago, but did it when he was under stress. I wasn’t aware of what time it was, but I assumed it was later than he was anticipating. Maybe recording didn’t go as smoothly as he had hoped.

I heard him sigh and press a kiss to my ear, then the feeling of him holding me quickly subsided as he exited the room. I heard the door close and got up, following him down the hallway and into the kitchen. He was standing in just his boxers with his back to me, his head in the refrigerator. A beer was in his hand and the microwave was running, he must’ve been making something to eat.

Matt turned around and his eyes met mine, a small smile creeping across his lips, “Did I wake you?”

I smiled, “Yeah, but it’s okay. You doing alright?”

He shrugged, “Just ran way later than anticipated and we all ended up arguing over how the song was turning out. Sounded great in my basement, but in the studio it sounded like shit. We’re going to take a break for a couple days then try again, and if we can’t get it right we’ll just nix it. Just frustrating.”

I nodded, “I’m sorry to hear that. You guys were there since ten this morning, maybe you just need a break?”

“Maybe,” he replied and took his food out of the microwave and started eating. I saw that it was midnight and my eyes widened a bit, which he noticed, “I told you. This is delicious, by the way. Thank you for always feeding me.”

I felt myself smile and walked over to him, hugging him from behind and resting my head on his shoulder blade. “You’re welcome. Finish eating then join me in bed. I have a great cure for some stress relief,” I kissed his shoulder blade then walked off toward my bedroom. I could feel his eyes burning into me as I glanced over my shoulder and winked at him.

We had a discussion about taking things slower, but our relationship seemed to be growing day by day. Now that River was open to the opportunity of me dating Matt, I felt that it was time to put the big girl panties on and have an actual adult relationship with someone again. I loved the way Matt made me feel day-to-day, and we kissed each other all the time, but we hadn’t had sex since that first time we did. Before we were even truly “seeing” each other. It had been weeks now at this point since we did that, so I felt it was okay to take things to the next level.

I laid on the bed waiting for Matt to arrive, and when he did he had a grin on his face. He quickly closed the door behind himself and crawled onto the bed between my legs. He propped his elbows above my shoulders and ran his fingers through my hair. I leaned up and pressed my lips to his, kissing him deeply while throwing my arms around his torso, pulling his chest to mine. His lips parted and his tongue slid across my mouth, asking for entrance. I opened it and allowed his tongue to roam around, exploring, until it battled with mine. I lightly raked my short nails down his back, a groan emitting from his throat at the feeling. I grinded my hips upward, coming in contact with his growing erection. He repeated the behavior, rolling his hips and pushing the head of his penis against my entrance, two small pieces of fabric holding it back from entering.

“I need you, all of you,” I sighed out, breathlessly, as I pulled my mouth from Matt’s.

He sat up and pulled me with him, yanking my tank top off my body then pulling the small pair of underwear down my legs. He stood on his knees, overlooking my body and taking in the sight that he had only seen once before. A smile was placed on his face, his dimples deep in his cheeks, as I pulled his boxers down his thighs. He kicked them off his ankles then leaned down to kiss me, his penis in his hand, lining himself up with my entrance.

“Please tell me you’re on birth control,” he murmured against my lips before pushing the head in. I nodded and he kissed me again, deeper this time, while removing his hand and pushing his whole length in. His mouth muffled the sound of a moan coming from mine.

His hips rocked against mine as he leaned back up, grabbing my left leg and throwing it over his shoulder. My hands were on his biceps, nails digging into the colorful skin as my head was thrown back in the pillows. One of his arms was next to my head, holding himself up, the other was resting on my chest, his hand around my throat as if he knew he would have to stop my screams somehow. I didn’t last long, my orgasm appearing within a couple of minutes. I opened my eyes and looked up to see Matt dripping sweat, his colorful skin glistening. I sat up and pushed him onto his back, changing our position and taking control. He groaned and threw his head back, it hanging off the foot of the bed while I guided myself up and down on his dick. His hands were on my ass, assisting me with keeping my balance on the long length. His body began to shake, telling me he was close, as his hips lifted up and he pounded into me from below. His orgasm washed over him as he spilled inside of me, then dropped his hips.

I crawled off him and watched him as he laid motionless for a minute, then sat up and looked at me with a smile. Those million-dollar dimples causing my heart to melt a little and cheeks to heat up. He leaned over and caught my lips in his once more, then settled himself on his designated side of my bed. I got under the covers next to him, and he wrapped his arm around my shoulders and pulled me into his side.

My head rested on his chest as his hands ran through my hair, “It’s a nice feeling to not have you running out of here after sex.”

“Ha-ha. Very funny,” I rolled my eyes although he couldn’t see them. “Get some sleep. My alarm is going to go off in five hours.”

Matt laughed, “What do you want for breakfast?”

“I’ll fend for myself. You need sleep after such a long day,” I pressed a kiss to his chest and he got the hint to stop talking. I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep with his hands still in my hair.
