Confession of a King

forty nine

“I… I don’t even know how to explain how thankful I am for you. You were the last person I ever wanted to show up, but I’m so glad you did,” I sighed and rested my head on his chest as we sat on the couch. “I kept telling myself that if we died it would be okay because you would raise Alec as your own. If something would’ve happened to you, I don’t know what I would’ve done.”

Brian ran his fingers through my hair and pressed a kiss to my forehead, “Stop thinking about it, Ivy. You and Matt are both safe, Behemoth is now shark food and Alec is coming home in two days. Everything is finally falling into place. Soon enough, you’ll be on your vacation and Matt will be giving us his two weeks notice of being our alpha.”

“Who’s he going to give the position too? Zacky?” I joked and pulled my head up some, now leaning against his shoulder as he laughed. “You think you’re ready to take on all of Avenged by yourself?”

He shrugged, “Seems like it’s a Sanders tradition to dish it off on the Haner’s when their families become the main focuses in their lives. It’s not like Matt is going to completely drop it, either. You and I both know that he won’t be able to stay out for too long, but he just won’t be directly involved.”

I nodded, “I wonder what he is going to do with himself?”

“He’s going to be a stay at home dad… probably enroll Alec in soccer… maybe even trade the Jeep in for a minivan,” Brian laughed as I shuddered at the thought. “He’ll find something to keep him busy, or he’ll just work out all the time and be super jacked.”

I sighed and leaned into him more, “I love you, Bri.”

“I love you too, shithead,” he laughed and gave the hand that he was holding in his a squeeze. “You think you’re ready to move back into your humble abode today?”

“No,” I answered, truthfully. “I have PTSD about the whole idea of going into my front yard. Maybe we should sell the house and move back in here.”

“Ivy,” he groaned. “You two are supposed to be moving on with your lives. Planning a wedding. Raising a kid. You’re not moving back into the gang house for good.”

I rolled my eyes, staring at the television, “You miss having me here. Don’t you deny it. You know the best times of your life were when it was me and Hunter while Matt was still in prison.”

“I don’t know about the best… the most stressful, quite possibly,” he chuckled as I elbowed him in the chest. “Shouldn’t you be checking on your baby daddy upstairs? He probably needs something.”

“Trying to get rid of me, Haner?” I got up and eyed him, we both laughed. I went to turn around and he pushed me lightly, his foot shoving my backside. I turned and cut my eyes at him, “Hands off the goods.”

He held his hands up in the air, “Don’t tell Shadows I touched the butt.”

“Excuse me?” Matt’s voice sounded from the entry way to the living room, an eyebrow raised as his face came in proximity. “There is no butt touching unless it’s mine.” I bit my lip, suppressing a laugh at Matt’s choice of words. He realized what he said and laughed, his dimples showing, “Well, that’s not what I meant… but, you can touch my butt anytime you want, Bri.”

Brian wiggled his eyebrows at Matt seductively, “You know I always thought your ass was juicy. I wouldn’t mind getting a handful of it sometime.”

“You guys are sick,” I shook my head and walked toward Matt, wrapping my arms around his torso. I stood on my tip toes and kissed his lips lightly. “I don’t want to go home today.”

Matt sighed, “I understand. I really do, but you’re completely safe now, baby. I’m never letting you out of my sight again and our little boy comes back to us tomorrow.”

I nodded, “I can’t wait to spend time with the two of you together again… and I know, but it is going to take me a while to feel comfortable again. It’s going to be a work in progress. My last day at home wasn’t exactly the best.”

“I know, honey,” Matt kissed my forehead then pulled away from me. “Just promise me that if you have another nightmare about me, that you’ll try to be more willing to work with me. Otherwise, you’re going to spend all day in the bathroom since I’m not leaving the house without you.”

“Noted,” I laughed and started to walk away from him, going to sit with Brian on the couch again. “I think I can say that I shouldn’t be having those nightmares anymore. I think I’ve faced much scarier than Shadows in my life now to where you’re like a teddybear and not a murderer.”

“Thank you, means a lot,” Matt rolled his eyes and headed toward the kitchen. “Do you want anything to eat?” He called out to me as he walked down the hall.

“This isn’t your house anymore! You can’t just make food and eat what you want!” Brian yelled.

“A grilled cheese would be awesome!” I yelled, louder than Brian. Earning a response from Matt saying that it was coming right up. I turned to look at Brian and stuck my tongue out at him. He grabbed for it with his fingers and I pulled away from him, a disgusted look on my face, “I don’t know where those fingers have been.”

He pursed his lips, “Typing on the computer and wrapped around my dick.”

“TMI,” I gagged then looked at him with sad eyes when I saw he wasn’t smiling. I nudged him with my foot, then put my feet on his lap, earning a side eye from him. “Have you thought about getting back into the dating world? Matt’s out now so you have free reign of finding a nice lady without Zacky throwing a fit.”

Brian shrugged his shoulders, “You know, I really thought I had something going with Chelsea. She seemed like a really cool chick until she dipped. I get why she did it, but the whole calling your mom thing and saying she was never coming back, that was fucked up.”

“Tell me about it,” I grumbled. I was still pissed that she contacted my family about me. I was even more pissed that my mom would have rather argued with me regarding my relationship with Matt rather than my actual safety. “She’s pretty much dead to me because of that. We need to find you a nice girl. Keyword, nice.”

He laughed and kept the smile on his face, “Are you going to be my wingman?”

“I prefer the term wing-woman,” I smirked. “But no, I’m finally going to be able to be busy with mommy things. You, Zacky and short shit should make it a point to find some lovely ladies.”

“Tell them you’re a firefighter, they’ll love you,” Matt’s voice sounded again and a plate was placed in my hands. A big, gooey grilled cheese sandwich was staring up at me, bacon on the side, “Can someone tell me why I still burn myself every time I make bacon?”

“It’s a sign that you’re wearing too many clothes,” I winked up at him and heard Brian gag from beside us. I took a bite of my grilled cheese, groaning, and looked at Matt with happy eyes. He smiled and sat down next to me, squishing me between him and Brian, then rested his head on my shoulder. I sighed after swallowing, “What would I do without the two of you?”

“You’d be dead,” Brian said with a laugh.

“Your sex life would suck,” Matt responded while kissing my shoulder.

I rolled my eyes, “I’m never asking that question again.”

“Hey, they were honest answers!” Matt whined a bit and then licked up my neck, sending shivers down my spine. “Hurry up and eat so I can get you home before my dick rips my pants open,” he purred in my ear.

We only spent about one more hour at the Avenged headquarters before deciding it was time to come home. The ride to the house, I felt Matt glancing at me as I stared out the window, his hand holding mine tightly, squeezing as we turned onto our road. He nearly had to pull me out of the car when we got into the driveway, fear starting to takeover as flashbacks of being abducted played out in my head. The minute the front door closed, I broke down into a fit of tears on the hardwood floor. Matt caught me and held me close to his chest, telling me that things were okay. Everything was going to be okay. I was safe now and we finally had the chance at a normal life. I knew what he was saying was true, but it was hard to feel safe after being put through the ringer.

I ultimately pulled myself from Matt’s arms, finally having my composure back. I looked around the house and saw it was an absolute disaster. There was shit EVERYWHERE. Empty liquor bottles, empty beer cans, the pillows on the couch were all over the place. Shit was knocked over. I looked at him with my hands on my hips, bringing my lips together in a flat line before I completely exploded, “What the fuck happened in here, Matthew Charles Sanders?”

He grimaced at the sound of his full name and scratched the back of his neck, looking extremely guilty, “I was losing my mind trying to find you, baby. I’ll take care of it, okay? Go upstairs and take a bath. I’ll be up in just a bit.”

“So you trash the whole fucking house?” I was mad, no I was heated. If this was a cartoon, I would have steam coming out of my ears, “Why the hell did we stay with them for four days if you knew this place would be a fucking disaster for Alec to come back to!”

“Because you didn’t want to fucking leave, Ivy!” Matt screamed at me, obviously aggravated with the situation. “You were scared to come home, so I didn’t push you. I just said I’d take care of it. Go upstairs, please,” his voice was calmer now, as he hung his head low as he walked over to me, pressing a kiss to my forehead.

I pulled myself away from him and shook my head before heading toward the stairs. Once I made it to our bedroom, I could hear the sound of Metallica coming through the iHome downstairs. Matt just had to listen to music while he was cleaning - which meant that it was going to take hours because I would probably walk down there to him dancing and singing, not actually doing what he is supposed to be doing. I laughed to myself and closed the door behind me, deciding I wasn’t going to just take a bath right now. It was noon, and the sun was bright, so I changed into a bikini and walked out onto our balcony, laying down a blanket and soaking up some sun. I closed my eyes as the sounds of birds chirping took me to a zen state, thinking of the last four days.

Gary and Brian Sr., or as we all called him, Papa Gates, had come to Avenged’s headquarters to get a good look at Matt’s injuries when we first got back. Gary called in a military doctor who took care of Matt’s shot wound at home, putting him under a high dose of pain meds and pretty much just pulling the bullet out of his shoulder. He got stitches and antibiotics under the table, us never having to step foot out of the house or tell the police/hospital what happened. Gary and Papa Gates had a discussion about Matt handing over all of the business to Brian, the same agreement the two older men had years ago. Matt seemed like he was ready for that step, but I knew that there were some things he’d never be able to get out of. Brian was hot headed and wouldn’t be able to hold onto a true management position, he would need Matt by his side for guidance. We were never really going to be completely out of the gang world, and after all these months, I was starting to realize that was okay.

My mind switched over to when Matt and I were stuck in the warehouse, ready to be eaten alive by the fire that was growing around us. I really thought that was going to be the end, and I knew Matt did, too. His face had been so stoic, like he was trying to stay strong, but his eyes showed every fearful emotion. I had never seen him look so scared, cry so hard, as he literally clung to me telling me he loved me and how sorry he was over and over. The fire was maybe two feet away from us when Brian’s voice sounded out from a ledge, telling us to get down, as a water pipe was busted in the wall near the exit of the warehouse. It wasn’t enough water to put the fire out, but it was enough to calm the flames for us to run out the door. Brian didn’t say when he showed up, how long he had been there, how he knew that would get us out. He didn’t want any sort of recognition for saving us, he was just happy we were still alive. I was so thankful for him.

“Hey, momma,” Matt’s lips were pressed to my exposed back, kissing down my spine. “How about you stop trying to get skin cancer and bring your sexy ass inside?”

I laughed and flipped over, looking up into his beautiful, hazel eyes. He was smiling down at me and took his hand, tracing it up my abdomen from the band of my bikini bottoms up to my breasts. I looked down and noticed he was already fucking naked, his dick rock solid. I practically growled, jumping up and tearing my bikini off. A chuckle emitted from his throat as I grabbed his hand, “Fuck me like you’re trying to get me pregnant again.”

We still have quite a bit to go with Matt and Ivy's story.
