Who Are You?

Diamond in the Rough

.:.:.

Stacks of clothes were neatly placed in the corner of her room as an Asus laptop sat atop her bed. Elise was satisfied enough with the look of everything which warranted a shower. She grabbed her towel and pajamas before walking towards the bathroom conveniently located directly outside her room to the left. Before opening the door, she peeked down the hallway. The OS chair cradled the back of Matt’s limp head. She sniggered and went inside to turn the water on.

All her toiletries were crammed together in either the corner of the shower or under the sink so not to be in the way of Leana’s stuff. With the large mirror beginning to fog, she stripped of her clothes, kicked them into a pile by the door, and brushed through her hair. Her eyes caught the naked reflection in the mirror; a sight she usually tried to avoid.

Elise never liked being the woman who constantly threw around negative comments about herself but it became a bad habit over her life.

Her hair was never long enough and when it was, it had too many split ends. Her shoulders were too broad and while her chest was rather large, she never deemed them perky enough. Elise chuckled with thoughts of her ex once comparing her to Gianna Michaels. While Elise envied her, and thought she looked fantastic, she could never accept she looked anywhere near as good. Her waist was rather thin for her build, she admired that, but felt her ribs were still too wide. Her thighs had no gap, she’d probably have to lose 50 pounds for that to happen. Not that she had even had that much weight to spare. Her ass was round but white stretch marks lightly peeked across her hips and cheeks. Again, memories of her ex’s voice interrupted her mind.

"You look fantastic clothed." He tried to compliment Elise but only now she realized how insensitive that was.

The mirror had completely blurred her reflection as the room filled with steam. Elise set a timer then pressed the arrow on her iTunes before setting her phone aside. Carefully she stepped inside as the water cascaded over her head. A 20-minute shower was long enough. Without the timer, Elise was afraid she’d zone out for hours under the water.

Her shower was almost complete when some of her favorite lyrics began to play, causing Elise to sing.

“So sacrifice yourself, and let me have what’s left. I know that I can find the fire in your eyes. I’m going all the way. Get away, please. You take the breath right out of me. You left a hole where my heart should be. You got to fight just to make it through, ‘cause I will be the death of you.” She sang softly, a tear falling from her eye only to be washed away. She wasn’t sure why but that song always pulled at her heart.

The timer beeped just as Elise was turning the faucet off. She squeezed the excess water from her hair before grabbing the towel and drying off in the tub. A few minutes later she emerged from the bathroom and turned into her room. She plopped herself onto the deep purple comforter while leaning against the pillows, laptop in hand.

Elise texted Leana after forgetting to ask about the Wi-Fi password earlier. Her phone vibrated as Leana sent a text right back, informing Elise she would be home in an hour, maybe more if their friend’s luggage still hadn’t shown up. She smiled at the message. In seconds her web browser was up with a blank page ready to be typed up.

“Dear, Fart Face.

I owe you the biggest apology available to man but for now, all I can say is that I’m sorry for leaving so abruptly. I felt like I was losing myself even more and I couldn’t stand to be there another day. I just thought you’d like to know that I made it! (: It’s absolutely more beautiful here than I remember. My new roommate and her friends are incredible. They’re so sweet and down to Earth, I can’t help but feel so fortunate for this opportunity.

Speaking of opportunities, I’m relieved Uncle Dan agreed to let me wait tables at his bar. Psh, and mom said he was a selfish dirt bag. I start on Friday and I can’t wait, it’s been a while since I’ve been in the service industry but you know that. So, how’s everyone at home? Is your back injury getting better? I hate the thought of you still in pain. ):

Email me back asap! Love you, you turd.”

Elise hit Send when she noticed a slight movement from her doorway. She peeked her eyes over the screen and saw Matt leaning against the frame, smiling.

“Uh, hi” Elise greeted while slightly lowering her computer screen.

“You mumble every word you write. It’s pretty amusing.” Matt chuckled.

She rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out, the metal bar that was hiding in her mouth now shone from the light of the screen.

He clutched a hand over his heart. “Elise, you wound me.”

This time she blew a raspberry at the man before both started laughing.

“I hope I didn’t wake you by narrating?” She asked while rubbing the back of her neck.

Matt drunkenly shook his head no, a sigh of relief coming from Elise.

“It was your singing that woke me.” He smirked, a single dimple appearing.

Elise groaned in embarrassment. It’s bad enough Matt heard the content of the email but even worse he, the lead singer of a band, had heard her singing.

“It’s a wonder you didn’t tear your ears off.” Elise teased with a yawn.

Matt shrugged his shoulders before taking a sip of his fresh beer. “You seem pretty tired. I’ll go ahead and let you sleep.”

Hearing that one simple word caused Elise to yawn again, her hand covering her mouth. “What are you gonna do now?” She questioned.

“I’ll probably keep drinking until Lee gets back. Maybe ask her for a ride home or to crash here for the night. I’ll talk to you later. Sleep tight.” Matt raised the bottle in hand before leaving and closing the door behind him.

“He left pretty quickly”
she thought.

Communication is difficult, but I swear sometimes technology makes it ten times harder.

Woo! Go Matt for taking charge! Definitely worth the wait

That's definitely the best way to stop the teasing. I love that Matt was bold enough to cut the bullshit so to speak.
