Who Are You?

The Wicked End

Aw, we forgot to play this last night!

The sound of Leana’s pouting voice was just loud enough to bring Elise out of a deep slumber. Had her bladder not felt as if it were about to explode, she could ignore it and go back to sleep. Or she thought she could.

Lee-Pea! I can’t find my boxers! A disgruntled Jimmy shouted loud enough for the whole complex to hear.

Elise chuckled to herself and decided it was safer to stay in her room for the time being. She ripped the phone from its charger and saw there was each a text from Leana and Matt. Leana had asked if she was ready for today’s adventures with the girls while Matt sent her a “good morning” text two hours ago, seeing as how the time was already after 12:00. She puckered her lips to one side when she remembered the girls mentioning plans for today. Her thumbs flew over the screen as she apologized to Lee for making plans with Matt. As she began to message back a good morning, her bedroom door was flung open, a grinning Leana peering inside.

“Plans with Matt?,” She bounced over to Elise, “What plans!”

Who has plans with Matt? Jimmy questioned before running into the room. “Hey, my boxers!” He pointed at his girlfriend who was currently sporting his black drawers adorned with kittens.

“My shorts were too far away this morning so I grabbed yours. You’ll get over it,” she waved her boyfriend off as she turned to Elise, “So, you were saying?”

“Ok, one; I need to start locking my door. Two; Matt kinda asked me on a date last night.” Elise yanked the covers over her head out of shyness only to have them ripped away.

The young couple looked to each other and squealed in excitement. Elise raised her brow at the two who seemed more enthused about the date than she was. She went into detail of their time in the hot tub to when he dropped her off at night earning a couple of “awes” from them. Suddenly, Leana perked up.

“Make-over!” Lee jumped from the bed almost knocking over a standing Jimmy.

Elise cocked her head to the side, “Make-over?”

“Your hair, silly. Didn’t you want to change it?” She giggled.

“I’ll do it!” Jimmy raised his hand.

“I’m sure Elise wants to have hair by the end of this.” Leana rolled her eyes.

Elise smiled at their antics and was more than happy to take the hairstylist up on her offer today.

“I think I put all the hair stuff we got the other day under the bathroom sink.” Elise climbed out of bed and headed to the restroom.

.:.:.

“Now, normally I don’t use these products back to back but since your hair is naturally red, I figure your hair will grab and hold onto the new product anyways.” Leana was in professional mode as she began applying the two boxes of Color Prep to Elise’s black hair.

“How come?” Elise questioned under the intense focus of her hairstylist.

“This stuff opens up your hair follicles so the old dye can be washed out. Normally it'd be a good thing but if you were to put color over it, you run the risk of your color washing right out. Sure, it says you can dye it right away but what do the big companies know?” Lee huffed the last part as she read over the paper instructions before tossing them aside.

In only twenty minutes, Leana was done applying the remover leaving Elise to sit for half an hour. She had a long shower ahead and decided to create a playlist for the entire time she had to rinse, wash, and repeat multiple times. She smiled to herself as she loaded up on Slipknot and Avenged songs.

“Once Lacey gets off of work tonight, I was going to see if she and Gena wanted to come over and play that board game. I completely forgot about it last night.” Leana frowned while she cleaned up her work station in the kitchen.

“And you were so excited about it, too. That makes me sad.” Elise stuck out her bottom lip only to have a used glove thrown at her face.

“Don’t sound so sorry for me.” Lee chuckled. “If you and Matt aren’t busy later,” she winked and nudged Elise’s shoulder, “You two should join us. Maybe I can convince the guys to join in if I promise food and, or, nudity.”

“Sounds fun, I’ll mention it to him. We’re only going for a quick bite to eat then a movie after. Nothing too time consuming or exhausting. Oh! Time to start rinsing this crap out. See you in a year, apparently.” Elise joked before stalking off to the shower.

About thirty minutes later, Elise emerged with very light, orange-tinted hair. Phase two was about to begin as she prepared to be seated for a while. Leana was fast, but thorough, and finished applying the color to her long hair in under 40 minutes.

“Holy tits, it smells like something died in Humpty Dumpty’s eggy asshole!” Jimmy entered the apartment with his shirt pulled over his nose.

As soon as he set foot in the kitchen, Leana instantly began tearing into the fast food bag before it could touch the table. Jimmy was such a nice guy, he offered to grab some breakfast for the two women as they indulged in their morning of beauty and “girl talk". That, and Lee practically chased him out when he began nitpicking her about the way she brushed through Elise’s hair.

“Thank you, Jimmy.” Elise smiled as she reached for a sausage crunch wrap.

“You’re very welcome, Fireball.” Jimmy joked as he stuck a finger into her processing hair.

Leana smacked his hand away, “Really, James? Now your finger is going to be stained red. And don’t wipe it on your shirt!” She screeched just in time to stop the drummer from using his shirt as a napkin. “Idiot.” She mumbled but couldn’t help the smile crossing her face.

Jimmy shrugged his shoulder and took a huge bite out of his food, “You like it.”

They ate in silence until something clicked in Elise’s mind.

“Y’know, Jimmy,” she swallowed her bite of food, “Never once is it stated that Humpty Dumpty was an egg. That’s just a story that’s been manipulated to be an acceptable nursery rhyme.”

“The woman makes sense.” Leana nodded.

“To quote Lewis Carroll,” he dramatically cleared his throat, “When I use a word, it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.”

“Actually, wouldn’t that be you quoting Humpty Dumpty?” Leana questioned.

“Psh, yeah, but who wrote Through the Looking Glass?” Jimmy tapped against head with a single finger.

“The man makes sense.” Elise commented.

“I think it’s time for you to go shower, missy.” Leana poked her tongue out at the up and coming redhead.

“Shit, you’re right!” Elise exclaimed as she noticed it was a little after 2:30.

.:.:.

“You’re the best, babe.” Leana kissed Jimmy just after she crumbled her food wrapper.

“Anything for you, Love Dove. So, Matt’s really going through with this, huh?” Jimmy asked.

“I guess so. Assuming he doesn’t screw up because he isn’t fully investing himself. I talked to Brian last night about his fallout with ‘Chell. Somehow, we got on the topic of Matt and he just won’t let anybody in. He gets so far with someone them pulls back. It breaks my heart.” Leana sighed.

“Are you talking about what happened with your friend Sam? The one you tried to set Matt up with just after Val?” Jimmy questioned with a hint of humor in his voice.

“Yes. She could have been good for him.” Lee mumbled.

Jimmy laughed, “Babe, there wasn’t a hint of a relationship within a million miles of them. He used her for a rebound and that was it!”

Leana thought for a second. “So, that’s why the bitch never returned my flat iron.”

“Speaking of Brian, anything new with him since yesterday?” Jimmy was in anticipation of some good news.

The small brunette only shook her head. That was enough to simmer Jimmy down but a glint of hope still remained. Perhaps someday Michelle would wise up and realize what she was missing out on. Matt and Brian were supposed to be each other’s brother-in-law while the rest of the guys would play the part of wacky uncle to their kids. They all planned their futures around one another and these unforeseen changes were throwing everyone for a loop and each was coping differently. Speaking of changes…

“Lee, you’re a miracle worker. This is amazing.” Elise walked into the living room to where the couple sat watching tv.

Her hair was now a deep red with darker red lowlights. Elise was in love and couldn’t stop smiling at how the color complimented her skin tone and green eyes. She hugged Leana and took off back to her room to finish getting ready.

Matt arrived around 7:00 just as Elise was throwing on her outfit. It took way too long to decide on black leggings, her Chucks, and a simple form fitting, long sleeve tunic which laced up around the chest area. According to Leana, the olive-green top brought out her eye color quite nicely. Elise looked at herself in the bathroom mirror one last time. She could hear laughter coming from the living room just as Matt texted he was here. With a deep breath, she grabbed her phone and headed out.

“Be sure to have her back by 11:00 and don’t do anything you wouldn’t explain to your doctor, mother, or commanding officer.” Jimmy poked a finger into Matt’s chest.

“Yeah, yeah…” Matt turned his eye away just as Elise walked out. “Wow, you look beautiful. Ready to go?” He asked in a daze.

Elise didn’t even try to hide her blush as she nodded. Leana sent her off with a wink as they left the living room and headed to Matt’s car. It was a warm night and Elise was glad they would be indoors for most of their time together. A smile small played from her lips.

“So, where are we going to eat?” Elise glanced at Matt who was already smirking.

“It’s a surprise. And don’t worry, it’s nowhere uptight and fancy.” Matt ended with a reassuring smile.

.:.:.

Elise laid her head against the headrest and began counting the cars that passed. Her mind was racing about anything and everything that could possible happen tonight. Where were they going? What did Matt have planned? What was to become of them after this night? How would things be if this night turns out badly? A few minutes into the car ride and everything in her immediate surroundings faded. It wasn’t until Matt placed his entire calloused hand over Elise’s fidgeting hands that she returned to reality.

“Hey, you ok?” Matt quickly looked to Elise then back at the road.

Elise tore her eyes from the window and glanced over. “Yeah, sorry. I was just thinking.”

She felt her hands being softly pried apart as Matt took her left hand into his right.

“I don’t think I need to tell you that you can talk to me, Elise.”

Her face heated up while feeling flushed at the same time. The anxiety she was beginning to suppress each day was becoming worse by the passing seconds. Before she knew it, her mouth opened allowing words to quickly spill out.

“I’m just nervous about tonight. Not because of you but because of other people. I’ve been trying to get better about my social anxiety and it’s usually remedied by a group of friends or family. Tonight, it’s just you and me…” Elise’s lips fell into a frown as she looked away.

“Alright, that’s a start. Now tell me, pretty lady, what could happen tonight that I can’t fix?” Matt’s voice was instantly calming to Elise. His question helped Elise focus and get to the root of what she was truly concerned about.

“Probably nothing. But what if I make an idiot of myself in the restaurant because I knock into someone’s chair with my big ass if the tables are too close together or I spill my glass or I can’t find the bathroom and am too afraid to ask?” Elise took a deep breath, hoping to suck her pathetic words back into her body.

Matt instantly hung a left turn causing a yelp to emit from the surprised woman. The singer began to chuckle as he peeked over at a confused Elise.

“What was that about?” Elise blinked at a smirking Matt.

“Change of plans.” His smirk turned into a smile as he made another left turn a few miles up the road.

.:.:.

The worn-out sign hanging above the small, walk up window was welcoming to the approaching couple. The windows were covered in a long list of foods stemming from breakfast items, to dinner, to dessert. Warmth overcame Elise when she looked up at the man beside her; He changed their dinner plans completely to make her more at ease. The growing smile on Matt’s face was a silent “you’re welcome” to the beaming redhead. Both ordered and sat side by side on the old bench against the food joint while happily munching on their food. The evening was quiet as the two adults watched families and couples walk by.

“Do you ever wonder what’s going through other people’s minds? Like, it’s crazy that everyone has their own unique story.” Elise broke the silence after sipping the last of her soda.

“Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever thought twice about it but you’re right. For instance, I bet those two,” Matt leaned towards Elise as he pointed at a young couple passing by, “I bet they’re headed back from an awkward dinner with her parents.”

Elise slapped his finger away in fear they would hear him. Through a chuckle she asked, “Oh, yeah? And what made it so awkward?”

Matt leaned in closer so his hushed voice wouldn’t be heard by anyone but Elise, “Maybe her mom caught a glimpse of his phone and saw he’s been texting with a pregnant hermaphrodite named Herman.”

“You are so bad!” Elise laughed while slapping his shoulder while calming her laugh, “I guess we should head out to the movie, huh?”

Matt agreed and jumped off the bench, offering an extended hand for Elise to climb down from the higher platform. She thanked him and began to drop his grasp only to have Matt tighten his hold. The two walked to the car and drove to the movies, a sly grin emitting from the two as they squeezed each other’s hand tighter.

.:.:.

“Say what you want about his acting but you can’t deny that man is fine!” Elise giggled, causing Matt to roll his eyes.

“I’d be crazy to even think about denying a pass from Mr. Depp. Though I can think of someone even more fine…” Matt gently nudged her shoulder, careful not to knock Elise over.

Elise stuck her bottom lip out and placed a delicate finger under it, “Yeah, me too. I wouldn’t pass up a night with Kaya Scodelario.” She flashed her teeth at a blushing Matt who seemed to have zoned out.

“Well,” Matt began as he fished the car keys from his pocket, “I didn’t mean her but I definitely wouldn’t say no to seeing you two in action.”

Elise playfully scoffed as his dark eyebrows wiggled up and down.

“Only in your dreams, Sanders.” Elise winked before getting inside Matt’s red beauty of a car.

The musician scratched the back of his head, “I think that’s a rabbit hole you do not want to go down.”

“Just call me Alice!” Elise piped in while shuffling through Matt’s CD case.

“You cosplaying as Alice? That’s something I could literally get behind.” A chuckle sounded from deep within his throat.

An idea popped into Elise’s mind just as a devious smile began to form. Two could play at this game and she felt she could win this round.

“Y’know, that may not be a bad idea. I’d have to find a blue dress short enough to show off my cute, thigh-high stockings. Now that I think of it, some thick black heels would look perfect if the dress were actually a corset top. Que the scene: My insatiable sex drive would lead me to desperately chase a white Jackrabbit sex toy down a very, very tight hole only to be captured by the sexy Dominatrix that is the Red Queen. I’d beg and plead for her to let me go only to be silenced with a gag and a hoard of her henchmen taking turns on m- What’s wrong, Matt?” Elise asked the now squirming man in the driver’s seat a little too innocently.

Matt hoped his hand fixing the crotch of his jeans was subtle enough not to be seen by Elise as he cleared his throat, “So, you were telling me earlier Lee wants to play a game tonight? It’s still early, I’m sure everyone isn’t even there yet. I’m down to play if you are.”

Elise smiled triumphantly but decided to let the poor man cool down. They agreed to finish their night at her apartment along with the rest of their friends. As different as these two were, the exact same thing was running through their thoughts;

They’re going to be the wicked end of me.

Woo! Go Matt for taking charge! Definitely worth the wait

That's definitely the best way to stop the teasing. I love that Matt was bold enough to cut the bullshit so to speak.
