Who Are You?

The Stage

.:.:.

Karaoke time was finally here. The group settled into a large booth adjacent to the small stage. Everyone else in the room was already laughing and having a good time. The B-52’s “Love Shack” currently filled the room as a young couple danced around with microphones in hand. Elise had to admit that the energy was exciting. It was a fairly nice place, not something Elise was expecting. They all agreed upon their drinks as Johnny, Lacey, and Gena went to fetch them.

“We’re next!” An already intoxicated Jimmy had grabbed his girlfriend’s hand as they made their way to the stage.

Elise observed the couple as they looked to be bickering about which song to do. It truly was inspiring to watch the two. They were the epitome of a “cute couple.” The smile fell from her face a little as she thought of a certain someone who was seated next to her. Her eyes quickly glanced at him as he joked around with Brian. For some reason, they were picking on Zacky which wasn’t out of the norm.

“Alright, bitches. The drink fairy has returned.” Johnny held three beers by their bottle neck in one hand and two in the other as he outstretched both arms.

Lacey smirked, “You sure you want to be calling yourself a fairy in a place like this?”

Johnny brought his arm in and pointed at Lacey, “Shush your pretty mouth and drink your girly drink.”

The girls placed drinks onto the table as Elise reached for her water. She mouthed a “thank you” to them unsure if they could have heard her over the music.

“I think,” Brian leaned onto the table so everyone could hear him, “I think we should all pick a song for each other!”

Zacky and Lacey groaned while the others, except Elise, cheered at the idea.

Matt leaned close to Elise’s ear, “You know you’re going up there, right?” He smirked before taking a sip of beer.

She pursed her lips together and smiled at the same time. There wasn’t a chance in hell that was happening. Elise wagged her finger from side to side, a drawn out ‘no’ leaving her mouth. Matt chuckled as everyone’s attention landed on the quirky couple now in the limelight. The sound of church bells ringing was followed by an upbeat synthesizer.

Jimmy threw an arm over Leana’s should as he held the mic to his lips, “I made it through the wilderness!”

Leana grinned madly, “Somehow I made it through-ooh-hooo!”

They joined in together, “Didn’t know how lost I was until I found youuu.”

Everyone was nearly in tears as Jimmy sang the chorus of “Like A Virgin.” His voice was fantastic but his dance moves were to be desired. Leana could barely finish the song from laughing so much. The crowd began clapping loudly as they finished their song. Johnny, seated at the end of the table, held a cold beer out for Jimmy as Gena did the same for Leana on the other side.

“That was so fun!” Leana squealed as the girls made room for her in the booth.

“Brian has the bright idea of picking songs for each other. How stupid is that?” Lacey looked to Zack who held his beer up in agreeance.

“Don’t be a party pooper. Just because you’ll get stuck with a song like, oh I don’t know, Baby Got Back?” Gena grinned at her somewhat conservative friend.

Lacey narrowed her eyes, “You wouldn’t dare.”

The night went on despite the constant nagging for Elise to sing. Zacky, Gena, Leana, and Johnny were currently in the middle of “Dancing Queen.” As much fun as it looked, Elise refused.

“Come on, Elli. It’s so much fun when you get up there! Besides, you’ve such a good voice!” Matt’s excitement was almost enough to work.

“How would you know?” Jimmy raised his eyebrow at the two.

Matt chuckled, “In the shower, duh.”

All eyes at their table flew to the singer as Elise sank back against the booth.

“Uh huh… Go on.” Lacey pushed.

“Not like that! She was in the shower in her apartment and I just happened to be sleeping on the chair only to be woken up by the sound of an angel.” Matt clasped his hands together while batting his eyelashes.

Elise stuck out her pierced tongue at him, “I don’t want to break their microphones and speakers. I’m good listening to you all.” She tried to sweet talk her way out of it but Matt wasn’t having any of it.

“That’s it.” Matt downed the last of his beer before motioning for Jimmy to slide out of the booth. “Let’s go.”

“No, Matt, pleas-“ Elise tried to hang back but Matt grabbed her arm and pulled her from the seat. “You can lead a horse to water, Matthew…”

“Or you can force its head underwater until it drinks.” The devilish look appeared on Matt’ face as he threw Elise over his shoulder and ran towards the stage.

The gang whooped from their seats as the other four clapped in encouragement. Elise was put on her feet and started to turn away only to have a strong arm wrap around her waist from the side. She couldn’t help but laugh at all of the smiling, supportive faces in the crowd.

“Fine, what the hell?” She muttered to Matt who punched the air in excitement.

“I know you’ll like this one.” Matt winked as their song was set up.

The music began to play as the lyrics quickly played on the monitor. Elise couldn’t help but face palm.

“I had visions, I was in them. I was looking into the mirror.” Matt began as Elise took a breath for the next part.

“To see a little bit clearer. Rottenness and evil in me.” She could feel her cheeks burning.

Matt gladly took the next few lines as he looked into the crowd then back at her;

“Fingertips have memories mine can’t forget the curves of your body! And when I feel a bit naughty,” Elise joined in as the two sang together, “I run it up the flagpole and see who salutes but no one ever does!”

“That was the best version of ‘Flagpole Sitta’ that I’ve ever heard! Johnny laughed when the two returned to the table.

“Let’s not speak of this again.” Elise ran a hand over her face but her smile couldn’t be wiped away.

.:.:.

Brian and Elise waited outside of the bar as Matt finished in the restroom. It wasn’t nearly as late as she thought it was but the entire day had caught up with her. All her body wanted to do was return home and sleep but they had to drop Matt off at his house first. Brian was now her ride seeing as how Leana had originally driven Elise to the bar. Unfortunately for the lead guitarist, Jimmy had raced back to their place with Lee. Brian had no desire to be kept awake tonight so they compromised and told him to stay at Leana’s. Elise mindlessly toyed around on her phone while they waited.

“You looked like you had a lot of fun up there.” Brian smiled.

She shrugged, “It’s not something I was excited about at first but I’m glad I did it.”

“By the way,” Brian crossed his arms over his chest, “You look really nice tonight, Lombard.”

“Ok, you’re gonna have to tell me what the hell that means!” Elise laughed while crossing her own arms.

“Tell who what ‘what’ means?” Matt huffed while throwing on a hoodie.

“This stupid Lombard shit.” Elise playfully glared at Brian.

Matt’s eyebrows raised as his hands shot up, “Nope. This one is all you, Bri,” and he walked off towards the car.

Elise rolled her green orbs, made a V with both fingers and pointed at her eyes then at Brian. Brian blew a raspberry at the woman as they all waked to the car.

Notes

It's a short filler but I wanted to post something. I have the ending typed up already and I'm excited about it. Thanks to everyone that continues to read and has subscribed!

Oh, Brian. You aren't gonna try anything with her, are you?

Communication is difficult, but I swear sometimes technology makes it ten times harder.

Woo! Go Matt for taking charge! Definitely worth the wait

That's definitely the best way to stop the teasing. I love that Matt was bold enough to cut the bullshit so to speak.
