Who Are You?

Nightmare

.:.:.

The sun had already set before Elise was even five minutes into her walk. Thankfully the city wasn’t cheap and could grace the streets with streetlamps that would actually turn on. She faintly recognized the streets she was passing but still kept her navigation on. Only a few more blocks and she would be back home. A smile graced her lips as Elise thought of her evening. It was still surreal to think she finally had such genuine friends. That, and one of them happened to have especially drool worthy dimples.

Elise crossed her arms over her stomach as an awkward laugh caught in her chest. She felt giddy like a school girl and had Matt to blame for it. Though she didn’t mind. Even if nothing came from all of this, she was still happy to be around a guy like him.

Elise looked around at all of the shops. Some were older building that hadn’t been updated in years while others took on a more modern feel. New signs, fresh paint, shiny glass windows, etc., it was all very welcoming. As she turned her attention to the other side of the street, something in the store’s window caught her eye. Unsure of the reflection, she quickly looked behind her.

Must have been a stray animal. She shrugged it off.

Her phone buzzed against her rear while she dug it out of the back pocket. She quickly read the text:

Matt: Destination reached. I think Jimmy is beyond drunk already. Let me know when you’re home. (:

She let out a nasally scoff at Jimmy's antics and returned the device to its pocket. Only one block remained as Elise quickened her pace, each step faster than the last. Paranoia was setting in more and more the closer she got. It didn’t help when social media had talk of muggings that currently have been happening near the beach. Then again, how reliable were those groups?

She ignored the feeling best she could and kept a close ear out. The apartment complex was in sight. Elise instantly calmed down as she approached the crosswalk. She swayed on her heels, shifting the weight to her tiptoes as she stretched her calves. The neon sign finally flashed on the other end of the sidewalk as Elise looked from her left to her right. Satisfied, she took a step off the curb. Within a second she was forcibly thrown backwards.

A scream attempted to escape her throat only to be muffled by a warm hand. Her eyes were covered in a damp cloth while a large hand clasped around her mouth. She desperately lurched forward in an effort to be free. Her hands grasped at the muscular forearms surrounding her body. The fear inside Elise increased as a second set of arms grabbed her legs and were raised into the air. Her body was effortlessly flung onto what she assumed to be the shoulders of a man. Or a woman whom would make for a badass roller derby member. Her wrists were quickly clamped together as her upper body dangled.

“Scream and I’ll drop you faster than a Skrillex beat. Got it?” A gruff voice seethed right against Elise’s ear, something cold pressing against the underside of her neck.

She nodded as best she could. Blackness was still the only thing in view while the hand was lifted from her mouth. Obedient as ever, she kept her mouth shut and waited. Waited as she lie helplessly on the shoulder of a stranger.

“Check her pockets.” A surprisingly high-pitched voice commanded, she guessed it was the man who was holding her.

Elise felt a hand begin to slowly feel inside her hip pockets. Her eyes clenched shut as her teeth gritted together. Each passing second was draining her patience but the fear remained the same, if not growing. His fingers traveled from her sides, down her hips, and finally to the top of her rear. She inhaled sharply and swung her foot around in hopes of making contact. The two men chuckled as Elise missed completely. A sharp slap across her ass forced a gasp from the young woman. Her phone was pulled from the back pocket of her jeans earning a throaty chuckle from the stranger.

“Well, sweetie, looks like you won’t be telling this Matt guy anything.” His deep voice was littered with smug darkness.

The cloth was pulled from her eyes as another swat landed across the other cheek. Her green eyes focused as a pair of chocolate brown ones stared back at her; their owner bearing a shit-eating grin.

“You guys are fucking dickholes.” Elise dropped her head and breathed out a giant breath in relief.

Brian and Matt laughed only to be blindly flipped off.

“You’re going to need a shoulder replacement if you don’t put me down, Matthew.”

Smack

Matt’s palm connected with her ass, “Woman, seriously. I squat triple than what you weigh.”

“Nearly a ton is pretty damn impressive, butthead.” She smirked.

Smack

“I can do this all night, Elli. Keep it up.” Matt chuckled and declined a cigarette from Brian.

Elise replied in the sweetest voice, “I’ve no problem ‘keeping it up.’ Though I can’t say I’ve heard the same about you…”

Smack

“Yo’ mama doesn’t seem to mind.” Elise could hear the smirk plastered on his face.

“Gross, I didn’t know my own mother was into SPH and erotic humiliation.” Elise shook her head while placing a hand on Matt’s lower back for support.

Brian immediately burst out laughing at her comment which resulted in multiple smacks to her behind from the singer. Elise couldn’t help but join Brian in on his laughter. Matt carefully placed the woman on her feet once he was finished. She adjusted her clothing before rubbing her sore backside.

Brian flung an arm around her shoulders, “Let’s get you home before something bad actually does happen. Now, about those hookers…”

.:.:.

Elise smiled against her cool pillow. The day had worn her out but it was beyond worth it. She had managed to successfully complete her first day at work while keeping all tips she earned. That was unheard of in the service industry; trainers always kept the tips unless they were generous. Her uncle seemed to love her there while the other employees warmly welcomed Elise.

Unfortunately, the restaurant was over staffed for the weekend so Dan gave her the next two days, and possibly Memorial Day, off. She contemplated going home for the three-day weekend but her plans quickly changed once the girls caught wind of her free time. Their suggestion? A day of shopping followed by food, more shopping, then dinner with karaoke for dessert. That last idea didn’t excite Elise one bit. She could handle trying on an outfit here and there at each store but she dreaded the peer pressure of being in the limelight. But she would cross that bridge when it came time. As for the other two days, they kept her in the dark.

Her alarm was set graciously set for 10:00 a.m., giving her three hours before the girls wanted to meet up. It was nearing midnight and Elise’s giant yawn proved just how late it was. Before settling in to sleep, she opened her email and read over her sister’s previous question: “Now, how’s YOUR quest for love, missy?”

Instead of being the main mission, I’d call it more of a side quest. I haven’t thought about actively looking, just been open to whatever happens. I gotta say, though, there is someone I wouldn’t mind getting to know on a first name basis, if you know what I mean. -Insert Chris Farley as Billy Madison’s bus driver- (;

Before you get excited, he’s just a friend. My roommate’s boyfriend is in a band with him. They’re all really, really close and I’m not so sure how I’d feel about entering their lives in THAT way. I mean, I don’t exactly plan on living here forever. That’s also assuming anything would, or could, happen between us.

On a different note, work today was pretty cool. I was anxious as hell at first but it’s nice there. (:

Elise yawned again, put her phone on the floor, and snuggled into the now warm pillow. A final wave of excitement washed over before she fell into a dreamless sleep. Or what started out as dreamless.

.:.:.

Elise sat hunched over a crowded desk, a pen tapping furiously against her bottom lip. The stacks of papers spewed around the desk seemed to be blank, yet she felt the need to read and mark them all with ink in some way. Her body stretched against the back of the chair as she pushed away from the workload. A knock sounded at her door as she yelled for the person to enter.

“The guys from Nightmare Inc. are here. They say it’s important business about the account and won’t take no for an answer.” Her intern spoke above a whisper.

Elise gave him a friendly nod, reassuring he wasn’t in the wrong. He smiled weakly at the woman before him as he quickly left the room. His presence was quickly replaced by two heavily tattooed and overly confident men. They looked around, cocky smirks never leaving their faces.

“Make it quick, boys, I have a lot of work to do.” Elise scowled up at the men, emphasizing “boys”.

Fingers marked with ‘M A R L’ danced across the white sheets on the desk. Elise’s eyes narrowed at the thinner male as he matched her stare, his hand flinging the same stack of papers onto the floor.

“What. Do. You. Want?” She seethed.

Matt approached the irritable woman from behind as Brian placed his hands on the dark wood and slowly leaned forward, not a word spoken between either of them. Matt secured a hand around Elise’s neck, pulling her against the back of the chair, all while grabbing a fist full of fiery red locks with the other. Her hands instantly wrapped themselves around the flexed forearm. Like a predator stalking its prey, the longer haired man slowly moved towards her. His face was a mere inch from hers, his eyes scanning over every emotion, every muscle twitch, on her pale skin.

“You’re in no position to be speaking to us in that way.” A warm lip ring flickered across her ear as Matt squeezed her neck harder.

Elise lifted her head to breathe easier only to look into a pair of dangerous hazel eyes. A surprised gasp was just noticeable as a strong grip placed itself on her thigh. Matt fully pulled her and the chair away from the desk, allowing Brian more access. Elise ripped her leg away, resulting in a firm slap across her blushing cheek. Matt chuckled from right beside her, a grinning Brian now placing both his hands around the woman’s wrists. The man in front of her stood straight as he slowly brought one of her shaking hands towards his growing jeans.

“Poor thing is shaking, Shads. I think you’re scaring her. Or strangling her.”

He chuckled, “Bullshit, Gates, this one likes it rough. Don’t you, kitten?”

Her only reply was heated silence. Rebellion began to rear its head above the anxiety these two had given her. The tension against her scalp subsided as Matt removed himself. Relief washed over when Brian also released her wrists and turned away. That feeling quickly disappeared at the sight before her; they both were removing their belts, an animalistic glint in both of their eyes…

Elise quickly woke up to the sound of her alarm tone.

The hell kind of dream was that? She wondered.

She definitely knew it wasn’t a nightmare.

Notes

I originally planned on this being a short story but I think I should make it a wee bit longer and go into detail on a few things. Next chapter should be up soon! Thanks to everyone that has commented and read! <3

Elise is weird with her dreams, eh?

Communication is difficult, but I swear sometimes technology makes it ten times harder.

Woo! Go Matt for taking charge! Definitely worth the wait

That's definitely the best way to stop the teasing. I love that Matt was bold enough to cut the bullshit so to speak.
