Faded Into the Background

Chapter Five

I groaned and rolled over, the clinking of glass following my move. I opened my eyes and instantly regretted it because the bright light caused me to squint, the hangover running rampant in my head. What the hell happened? Usually I don't black out from drinking but apparently, this time, I did. Glass bottles lay strewn all over the place, bodies passed out all over the floor. I remember inviting people but I don't remember getting so trashed that I probably forgot my name. That happened one time and Steph had to come get me, that was when Brian and I first broke up; more like the beginning of when he forgot about me and I faded into the background. This was the second worst feeling I have ever felt.

Swiftly I planted my feet on the ground and gently pushed my body up, ignoring the pounding of my head; moving, zombie like, to the kitchen and taking a cocktail of medicine. Matt had showed me a cocktail blend that helped instantly rid of hangovers and I was grateful for that. I looked to my cell phone, that was clutched tightly in my hand, and looked to the time. My eyes went wide as I only had five minutes to get ready, maybe I shouldn't have partied! I groaned and quickly got ready, grabbing my car keys and leaving a note to Steph to feed the dogs for me; also wanting her to give the medication to Dottie. Dottie got her name from the spots on her skin and since I'm unoriginal her name was born. I thought it suited her but the guys all chuckled at me, causing me to flip them off.

I rushed out of the house and to my car, getting in and revving the engine. I didn't even have time to make my morning coffee, because I was in such a rush. I couldn't believe how trashed I had gotten. I couldn't believe that I had let myself get that trashed, usually I was good at not getting like that. Especially when I had to work the next day. My phone beeped, letting me know that I had a text message but I didn't answer it. I didn't like texting and driving because I don't want to harm others and I see no point in it at all. It was all worth it because you save lives by not doing it. I pulled into the parking lot and managed to squeeze in between two people whom couldn't park; I wonder where they took their test at. I couldn't help but chuckle as I thought that, making my way into the lobby and behind the desk. I tapped my Employee ID and password into the computer and waited for the ancient machine to boot up, I knew that we needed a new system, but no one would listen to me. We were a rinky-dink hotel, a very huge one and yet we still have dinosaur, check in computers. You would think they would at least spend some of their money to update the system; and they wonder why our service sucks.

The phone rang and she answered it with a smile, because that was protocol. You could hear a smile in someone's voice over the phone.

“The Hilton hotel, Desiree speaking, I spoke into the phone the well practiced lines that I had memorized the first time that I began working, “how can I help you?”

“Yeah I would like a room,” a familiar voice spoke through the phone, making me cringe and wish that I hadn't answered the phone at all.

“What type of room would you want?” I asked him.

“I'd like a room with a view, a kind size bed, a nice suite.”

I sighed as my fingers typed it into the computer, trying to keep the smile onto my own, face although it was hard to.

“Will you be paying with cash or credit card?”

“I will be paying with cash, when I get there.”

“Okay but we will only be able to hold the room for a limited time. We're filling up fast,” I found myself speaking into the phone, trying to keep the malice from my voice, sick and tired of hearing his voice already.

“Thank you,” I hung up before he could say anything back and grouses at the computer screen, muttering under my breath about men in general.

I was busy typing away, making sure that the cleaning staff know what rooms are empty with the people who have checked out and left. I also made sure to put the one room on hold for him, hoping that I really don't have to deal with him for long. After what he had did to me at the cookout, I will never forgive him. He had burnt the last shred of bridge that he ever had, that bridge collapsing as it was only being held up by one piece of rope. The mental image made me laugh but a clearing of the throat cut my laugh short, her eyes going to the customer, seeing that it was him I put a blank look on my face. I didn't want to show any emotions towards him.

He handed her the money, no words being exchanged on either end. My lips staying tightly closed as I rung him up and handed him the money that he would need back, that is when he leaned over the counter and almost whispered to me.

“Keep it, maybe you'll put it in your savings to fix that big nose of yours and that flat chest,” he smirked and grabbed the key card and sauntered off, his arm around the huge nose, too much gums, freak that he was with.

The rest of the day went by smoothly, and I was was glad for that. My mind had considerably calmed down as the rush hour began and people began filtering in and out, checking in and checking out each time. It was almost time for me to switch with the person that is on maid duty, because they all took turns. They only did that because the owner was short staffed and didn't feel like hiring anymore people. I had changed into the other uniform, hanging up the other and going about stripping beds of their bed linens and cleaning up the room. As I was making the bed of one room I could hear the headboard of the bed, in the next room, hitting the wall as loud moans came through it. All of the moans were female moans.

“Ohhhh, Briannnnn,” the woman moaned out and I made a disgusted face as I also tried not to vomit. My face becoming pale and I knew that I had to finish up and be out of there, but knew that I couldn't skimp out on on the job.

I let out a sigh, trying to finish as quickly as I could without missing any steps at all, the last thing I did was leave a mint on the pillow. Finally, now that I had that done, I raced out of there like a bat out of hell and continued onto the monotonous job of cleaning up the empty rooms and making sure that everything is fresh and ready for returning guests, or new guests. By the time I had finished all the rooms, my back and her legs were aching. The only good thing was that I got to take the elevator up and down every floor, because it would be hard pushing the huge cart up and down stairs; actually, it was somewhat impossible.

I made her way back to the front desk and her friend, and the person that took over for her, got off the phone. She gave me a soft smile, the smile telling me that I would need to go clean another room.

“Room 302,” her friend spoke and my eyes went wide, knowing what room that was just as the couple walked by, their keycards in their hands.

The man gave me a smirk and a wink, leaning in to whisper into my ear, “We left quite the mess for you.”

He quickly kissed my ear before Michelle could even notice that he was talking to me and walked away, his arm around the girl. I sighed and made her way to the elevator as my mind whirled, wondering what I was going to find into the room. As the machine brought me to the correct floor, I looked at myself in the shiny metals of the door. My hair was a mess and I had bags forming under my eyes, my body exhausted. I finally heard the ding of the elevator as it stopped, heart racing as I pushed the cart out and headed towards room 302, hand on the knob and pushed the door open and looked into the room.

What an asshole!!! Seriously!!! & that's coming from a girl that LOVES Brian, no matter what!!!

Just a small thing: You tend to switch POV's. You tend to go from 'she' to 'me'. I don't know if that's on purpose or not, but just wanted to let you know. It's one of my pet peeves!!! I'm sorry if I offended you.

Hope you update soon!!!
