Faded Into the Background

Chapter Three

Finally everybody got out of the pool as Zacky called that the food was done, I was halfway out when Brian just pushed me back into the pool. I went under swallowing a bunch of water and I could feel my lungs burn with the chlorine and the lack of oxygen, my legs frantically trying to kick my body to the surface. My arms sliced through the water but I felt myself becoming weak with lack of oxygen, bubbles floating to the surface with all of the oxygen that left my body. A pair of arms wrapped around me and I passed out before I knew what else was going on; the next thing I knew I was coughing up water and trying not to cry. This was the single worst thing that has ever happened to me. Slowly my eyes began to focus again, everyone's face surrounded me with identical looks of worry on them.

“Are you okay, Dezi?” Matt asked, his hazel eyes wide and care shown through them.

“I want to go home,” I managed out, my throat sore from the chlorine and coughing.

“I'll take you,” He whispered, helping me up from the deck of the pool.

“No you stay. I don't want to ruin this cookout for anyone. I'll just call a cab,” I gave him a tight smile and sent a glare Brian's way.

I picked up my towel, wrapping it around my body and calling Luka, hooking up his leash to his collar and bidding everyone goodbye. I couldn't stick around that childish man anymore, I couldn't believe he would do that to me. The fact that he would push me into the pool was childish on his part, and it wasn't even my fault we weren't together anymore.

I walked out and remembered that dogs aren't allowed in cabs, which meant that I was going to have to walk him. A frown appeared on my face as I thought about it, because I hated walking though I loved to exercise.

“Come on, Luka,” I mumbled as we began to walk in the direction of my house, pissed off and hurt.

I was one big ball of emotion and I felt like a balloon that is dangerously close to a pin, one little prick and I was ready to burst. That was how bad my emotions were, feeling my hands shake; they do it all the time when I'm over emotional. How is it that Brian could do this to me? I didn't do anything to deserve this, I've tried my whole just to be good and good to others. I was a happy-go lucky person and somehow he sucked that out of me. My emotions were on high at all times and I would snap at everyone, for every little thing. My grip on the handle of the leash tightened, my knuckles turning white as I vowed the tears to now fall. I wasn't going to let him get me; even with his latest stunt. I don't need anyone, I'm better off alone.

I could hear people all around me, my name being called as I heard quick footfalls. My head snapped around to see Steph jogging to catch up with me. A frown covered my face that she had left the cookout just because of me, putting me before hanging out with Matt.

“Steph what are you doing?” I asked her as she finally stopped in front of me, having caught up with me. “I told everyone to stay at the cookout. Why did you come after me?”

“Because you're my friend and everyone is pissed at Brian. I wanted to see how you were....”

“But what about Matt?” I asked interrupting her.

“He can wait. My best friend comes first, especially when she's hurt, and he understands that. Besdies, Val showed up and you know how much I can't stand her.”

I couldn't help but let a chuckle out as she said that, somehow she always made me laugh and smile. That was one of the reasons why she was my best friend. Her smile and just the way she could light up a room would bring someone out of their deepest depression, or a spinning dark hole. I could see why Matt was attracted to her.

“I'll be fine, Steph,” I gave her a small smile.

“Well too bad! You're not getting rid of me,” She told me with a smirk on her face.

She slung her arm around my shoulder and walked the rest of the way with me, to my house. Luka bounding to his pillow, circling it, and then plopping down with a sigh, resting his snout on his paws. I couldn't help but chuckle at him, as that is where he usually is every single dream.

“You're dog is lazy,” Steph said as she shut the door behind her, causing me to observe that she didn't have Ella with her.

“Where's yours?” I asked her.

“I left her with Matt. I trust him with her, and she seems to love him.”

“Like a certain someone I knowwww,” I said in a singsong voice with a grin on my face.

Her cheeks went red and she hid her face, trying to deny that she had any feelings for the frontman, though I knew better. I kept goading her as I began to cook, my stomach rumbling as I was hungry. Placing two places at the table; one for me and one for Steph. Light conversation filled the room as I stood at the stove, flipping over the round tip steaks, using a blend of herbs and spices; something Steph and I loved to do. She was cutting up the vegetables to make a garden salad, complete with a light Italian dressing and shredded carrots, hand shredded. I grew up on homemade goods and foods, so everything I used was a family recipe or made from the garden; the choice much healthier then what many people choose these days.

“God your steaks smell amazing,” Steph said as her stomach growled, something she always said when I made dinner for her.

I couldn't help but giggle and thank her in return, plating up the juicy steaks and setting them into the middle of the table. Both of our stomach gave a loud growl, and gurgled like they were eating themselves. Both of us looked at each other and began to giggle.

“I guess we'll just have to feed the monster in our bellies,” She commented and began to dish out the food, the steaks landing on our individual plates and the salad on a small dish to the side, to be eaten whenever we felt like it.

“Dig in,” I told her as we began to eat, small talk filling the room along with the clank of the silverware hitting the plates.

Steph was finished first, leaning back she groaned and laid her hands on her flat, toned stomach and let out a groan. That was her way of telling me that she was full, finishing right after her. We both began to take care of the dishes, she getting the dessert out of the oven and sprinkling it with powdered sugar with a raspberry on top. She set them on top of the oven as I finished the last of the dishes and put them in them in the strainer.

“Now I must make us a dessert drink and then we can watch a movie. This time it's your turn to pick out the movie,” She reminded me as she began to prep the area for the drink she was thinking about making.

I nodded, letting her know that I knew it was my turn and that it sounded good. Luka whimpered and whined, begging for a steak bone and I threw him one, him happily going back to his pillow and contently he began to chew on the bone. I shook my head with a small smile and made my way to the dvd collection that I had. My fingers ran over the smooth, plastic spine of the DVDs; the titles popping out at me and calling for me to pick them. I grabbed one, one I knew that both of us liked just as Steph came out with the dessert and dessert cocktail. Everything smelt and looked good, a smile on my face that I had a faithful friend like Steph, because not many people do have that. She set the plates down as I put the DVD in, going straight to the DVD menu, taking a seat on the couch.

“I fucking love this movie!” She said, throwing her arms in the air as if she were having a party.

“Steph, I fucking love you!” I told her with a grin. “You know how to cheer me up and make me happy, I want to thank, you so much. You've been there for me when no one wouldn't. You've dealt with me and my moods and tudes,” I chuckled to myself as I rhymed.

“No need to thank me, that is what friends are for. We're there for each other through thick and thin. You're like a sister to me and I wouldn't have it any other way. Now, shush bitch the movie is starting!”

Both of us chuckled and grabbed our desserts eating them along with drinking the dessert cocktail and watching our movie. These are the times that I love and cherish, something to look back on on my darkest days.

What an asshole!!! Seriously!!! & that's coming from a girl that LOVES Brian, no matter what!!!

Just a small thing: You tend to switch POV's. You tend to go from 'she' to 'me'. I don't know if that's on purpose or not, but just wanted to let you know. It's one of my pet peeves!!! I'm sorry if I offended you.

Hope you update soon!!!
