Meet You in the Stars

“I hope I don’t fall to my death tonight. Heels are so not my thing,” I complained as Jimmy parked the car. Matt and his now fiancee Val had let Val’s sister Michelle plan their engagement party. She had gone a little crazy and planned an extremely fancy party. She had reserved the most extravagant restaurant in the city.

“At least you’ll know that you went out looking gorgeous.” Jimmy smiled and leaned over to press a kiss to my lips. “Stay put, I’ll come help you out like a proper gentleman.”

“Sorry to tell you, but there’s nothing proper about you,” I said after he pulled my door open.

“You’re probably right about that.” He helped me to my feet and then laced his fingers through mine.

“Avery you look hot!” Val all but screamed when she saw me. I couldn’t stop the blush that crept across my cheeks when her exclamation made everyone look at me. “Come dance with us!”

She grabbed my hand and dragged me over to where Michelle was standing. I moved to the beat of the music the best I could in my heels, not wanting to take them off yet.

“Jimmy can’t take his eyes off of you,” Val leaned forward to whisper in my ear. I glanced over my shoulder and gave him a smile. He moved over to where the three of us were dancing.

“My turn.” He flashed a smile at the twins and then pulled me flush against his body. He was leading me through some of the craziest moves and all I could was throw my head back and laugh. Soon my face was flushed and my cheeks hurt and I needed a drink.

“He should be here any minute now.” We overheard Brian speaking to Zack.

“He? Have you switched teams on us, Haner?” Jimmy joked.

“No, you ass. A long lost cousin of mine recently got back in touch. He’s coming to visit for awhile. I invited him here to meet everyone.” He turned back to Zack, leaving Jimmy and I to ourselves.

The song changed and I quickly downed the rest of my drink. “We have to dance to this!” Laughing, Jimmy grabbed my hand and pulled back out onto the floor to dance.

Several songs later, Jimmy gripped my hips tightly to stop me from grinding against him again.

“I think we need to get out of here,” Jimmy murmured. His lips brushed my ear, giving me goosebumps.

“Is there a problem?” He pulled me against him roughly, allowing me to feel exactly what the problem was. I turned around in his arms, looking up at him with a smirk on my lips.

“Trevor you made it!” Brian suddenly called from the bar.

“Yeah, finally. Traffic was crazy.” I recognized that voice immediately and it chilled me to the bone. I spun around quickly and found myself face to face with my worst nightmare.

“I have to get out of here now,” I whispered and I could feel Trevor’s eyes on me as I pushed past him and out the door.

“Avery, wait!” Jimmy yelled, following me. I didn’t stop running until I reached his car. He was there a second later and gently pulled me into his arms.

“I can’t believe he found me. I need to leave, find somewhere else to go.”

Jimmy pushed me away slightly and took my face between his hands, making me look at him. “You don’t have to run away again, I’ll keep you safe.”

“You don’t know him like I do. He will find a way to get to me.” I tried to pull away from him, but he wouldn’t let me.

“Please don't go, Avery, I’m falling in love with you. I’ve known since the moment I first met you that I would and now it’s happening. Don’t let him control your life anymore. I know you’re afraid, but please let me help you. I will do whatever it takes to keep you safe.”

“I don’t want to make a decision right now, let’s go to your place. I just need to get out of here.”

We both climbed into his car. I had just buckled my seat belt when my phone went off. It was a text from an unknown number. Did you really think I wouldn’t find you? I won’t let you get away again. You’ll be seeing me real soon.
