Brian’s POV

I dragged my lazy feet into my kitchen, I put on the coffeemaker and walked to the door. I grabbed the newspaper from the floor and walked back to the kitchen finding my place on the counter.

I was alone in the big house, again. Not that I didn’t like being alone every now and then, but it felt oddly strange at the moment.

I opened the newspaper starting from the last page, then going over to the sport news. I smiled reading some of the headlines. It felt good to read something where I wasn’t on the main page.

Sadly that changed soon when I came to the gossip part. I sighed reading another headline, about how Synyster Gates and the rich model broke off and her running a fit and talking trash about me.

Not that I really cared, my friends and family knew what was really going on and that was all I needed and nothing else.

I put the newspaper away and grabbed my filled coffee cup, planning to spend my free day on my couch and not giving much of a care. It was nice to be able to just relax, even though I wouldn’t lose the feeling that it would be even nicer with someone I cared for by my side.

Maybe I should go out, but then… with the way my last relationship with Rachel had ended, which was pretty bad, hence the headlines, maybe I should stay low for a little while. She expected things from me I wasn’t willing to give. I thought we were clear about the fact that we would see where this would lead us but she was pushing and pushing too hard.

I turned on the TV when my phone started to ring, I sighed looking at the screen seeing. “Hey, what’s up?” I asked.

“Haner, you up for some party? Coming weekend?” Jimmy asked and he sounded like he was running.
“Sure, why not? Where?” Maybe it was good to get some distractions from the chaos around.

The doorbell rang and I rolled my eyes seeing that Jimmy had disconnected my call. I pushed myself up and slowly headed to the door, the pounding had already started and I grinned, that asshole, why was he even calling when he would show up anyway.

I opened the door having Jimmy storm in and past me in a second. “Sure, come in.” I held the door open for no one and let it fall shut with a loud slam.

“You normally wait, till someone invites you in, Jimbo” I call hearing cups smash together and cringed, please don’t break anything.

“Where is the milk?” He yelled from the kitchen. “Fridge” I replied and sat down on the counter after grabbing my own cup to get a refill.

“So you came by, for what-?” I asked and Jimmy looked me up and down “You just got up? Dude, you are slacking since the breakup, huh?” He filled my cup and sat down opposite of me.

“No, actually I’m feeling pretty good.” I said and it was the truth, I should have given up on Rachel and me a month ago, but I just didn’t have the heart to do it, knowing how it would end. She was a rich girl, her dad being the CEO of a tech company here in LA and she was planning on the big marriage and all.

She dropped some hints on me, which I first ignored. She had some bride magazines lying around, which I put to the trash. I didn’t plan on marrying soon, we were together for 6 months and she was already picking out wedding dresses, hell no.

We had fun, yes. And she was a nice girl, as long as everything was going her way, if not, she would call daddy. I got tired of that shit, and when I finally told her that, she freaked out, broke some of my stuff and finally moved back out, when I never asked her to move in, in the first place.

“Hello? Haner? You with me?!” Jimmy’s hand was waving in front of my face and I blinked a couple of times.

“Yeah, what did you say?” I asked and saw Jimmy chuckling, “I didn’t like her from the start, but that was nothing new, huh? She was a rich bitch, trying to land a good deal with a rockstar to get more into the magazines and headlines…”
“I know” I admitted, maybe at first I didn’t. She was beautiful and seemed to be a normal person, we got involved, at first I wasn’t even really sure if we would make it to a couple status, but it turned that way, and then soon after, I guess we both knew this wouldn’t work out, but she just wanted to pretend, liking the lifestyle and well I didn’t like her just playing a part.

“…Matt’s house, we plan to make a- Are you even listening to me?” Jimmy’s forehead was almost pressed to mine, making sure I was listening to him this time.
“I heard you, the party, at Matt and Val’s place. Got it” I moved a little back, so he would sit back as well.

“Right, good. So Saturday at Matt and Val’s. You can bring someone, I mean, you flying all solo again, we could hang out at some club and check the-” Jimmy suggested but I cut him off. “Thanks, I’m fine. I got it, okay?” Why was everyone so keen on going out with me all of a sudden, what the hell was this?!

Matt had called two days ago, Zack was here yesterday, I really didn’t get what this was about.

“Just think about it… oh and… shit I don’t know how to say this, but Chris asked me to hand this over to you. I didn’t know what it was before I opened mine but… We are all pretty confused, you know.” Jimmy shrugged handing me a light blue envelope, the paper was thicker than from a normal letter, my name was written in a perfect handwriting and I frowned, what the hell was this?!

I opened the envelope and pulled out a card with two rings on it, a wedding invitation, why would someone, and who- I mean… I heard Chris and Everly broke up, or at least that something happened, no one really knew any details on that, and since Everly and I never had the best contact for reasons I wasn’t too sure about, I wouldn’t be the first one to know anyway.

I looked at the neat handwriting in the middle and frowned, this must be a fucking joke. They couldn’t be real… what were they trying to do?!

I stuffed the card into the back pocket of my sweatpants, and pulled a white V-neck shirt over my head, taking my phone and keys and was almost out of the door when Jimmy called my name and stopped me just before leaving.

“Where are you going?” He asked and I shook my head “For a run, I need some time to think… I mean, what the hell is Chris thinking? Did you know about this?” I asked and Jimmy shook his head.

“No, he wouldn’t answer his phone, just send me a text asking if I would give the envelope to you. I don’t know why he didn’t send yours to your address” Jimmy shrugged and looked confused.

The card was stating that my ex was now marrying one of my friends. Chris had been in high school with us, he had been friends with Zack and Matt from the start, also playing guitar and had joined a couple of times to the band jam. We hung out almost every day, he went on tour with us, helping us out every now and then, we were cool so I’m wondering, what the hell he was thinking now.

“Okay, hey… but… don’t do anything stupid, alright?” Jimmy asked and I lifted an eyebrow at him “Says who?” I grinned and Jimmy chuckled “Touché… You saw when the wedding is taking place?” Jimmy asked and I frowned, no I didn’t actually.

“4 weeks” He answered before I could pull it out again, are they fucking kidding me?

How long could they be together, this is bullshit… Just plain bullshit, it couldn’t be love, it couldn’t be anything… we couldn’t let this happen…

Chris was making a mistake and what the hell Rachel was trying to do, I had no idea, but a plan slowly formed in my head and I had to talk to someone, impatiently.
