Sunny Disposition

Sophia's POV

I stared at Brian who was stood miles away at the stairs. Matt and Johnny looked at me with weird faces. I noticed, and played it off. "Yes.. he does want breakfast"

"Oh," Matt spoke. "Go ask him what he wants and we'll go wait in the car" Matt kissed my cheek without permission and walked away. Brian stared at me still. In the half-light, Brian looked like the shadow that he had become over this past week. Hunched over himself, he could be anybody, and in a way I guess he is. I knew that face he pulled. The one he wears when his ears are closed, and his mind has to put up with barriers to all new information. So no matter what I say, choose or say to him it will only push him away further. I couldn't however, find my voice as I approached him. I felt my cheeks flush hot, my stomach heavy and my heart pounded in my throat threatening to break out. His eyes locked over to me, as did mine. How many love songs had I heard that said, 'he takes my breath away'. Now that line made all too much sense. My body numbed as he began to approach me too, I became suddenly conscious of my blushing skin right now.

"Brian," I sighed. "Thank you for telling me - I do appreciate it"

"But.. it's Matt"

"No," I frowned.

"I really like you Brian, I think you're wonderful, great for me, you're so handsome," I admired. "It doesn't matter what I think of you - but, I'm going home tomorrow - and none of this is going to matter to any of you by then"

"Sophia," he placed his hand on my cheek. "It will always matter to me"

I moved his hand away in refusal. "I just needed to know why you kissed me, and now I do - we can both move o-" He suddenly lent in, and placed his lips on mine. The kiss obliterated every thought. For the first time in forever my mind was locked into the present. The worries of the next day evaporated like a summer shower onto a hot car. It was like Matt's usual mode of hurrying from one thing to the next was suspended, and I had Brian - taking delicate steps with me. He neither had no wish for the kiss to end. Drunk on endorphin's his only desire was to touch me, it seemed. In moments the soft caress has become more firm, he savored my lips and the quickening of my breath that matched his own. A kiss like this was a beginning, a promise of much more to come.

"Brian," I pulled away. "I'm leaving tomorrow"

"Yeah," he nodded. "Let me come"

"No," I frowned

"Yes, I'll stay a few days, let me take you out, spend some time with you and get to know you properly all over again-"

"Brian," I shouted. "It sounds great, and amazing and perfect but it's unrealistic - I live 10 hours away-"

"Fucking so?"

"Can we talk later? Johnny is waiting in the car, I have to go breakfast but I'll meet you in your room-"

"No, come out with me - I'll take you on a date tonight"

"Bri-"

"Please," he begged. "I just want to show you how great I am for you before you leave, please"

"Okay," I reluctantly agreed.

"I'll come get you at 6" he ordered. He kissed my head quickly. "I promise I will show you how great I am for you"
