The Visions Left Inside Me Are Slowly Fading

A New Emergency

**Brian’s POV**

I sat in the hospital waiting room, Simone was in Labor and Delivery. We’d tried calling Matt and Ember about five thousand times each, neither of them picking up. I knew they’d wanted some time for sibling bonding, but it’s been four hours since anyone’s heard from them. I knew Matt, he never left Simone alone for so long without checking in. Especially when she’s been having pregnancy issues.

“Uncle Brian, I’m bored,” Landon said as he climbed up on the chair next to me.

“Me too,” Lyric said looking at me with a puppy dog look.

I sighed, “Guys, there’s not much we can do right now. You can go climb on Johnny, but we can’t take you guys anywhere until your mommies are back.”

“When will that be,” Lyric sighed as Landon bounded over to Johnny upon my suggestion. He climbed up next to me as Zacky watched us carefully. Poor dude, doesn’t even know what to think.

“Whenever the new baby is here,” I said reassuringly as I gently ruffled his hair. “Seriously though Lyric, go play with Johnny for a bit. I’ll see if there’s anything fun for you two to do while we wait.” He nodded but didn’t move staying in the chair watching Landon and Johnny wrestle.

“Why does he keep looking at me?” Lyric asked me curiously; I followed his gaze and met Zack’s green eyes.

“He’s just not sure what to think right now bud, he won’t stare forever, just give him a little bit of time. This is your first day around everyone, we’ve hung out before, but he’s still trying to get to know you,” I explained best I could.

Lyric nodded again, “I’m gonna go play with Landon and Uncle Johnny.”

“Alright,” I smiled down at him then pulled out my phone, dialing Ember then Matt. Both phone calls going to voicemail again.

I sighed and stared up at the ceiling as the Emergency Room doors burst open. “We have a male and female trauma cases. Both injured critically during car crash. Female lost consciousness on site due to blood loss. Male seems to be coherent but has a concussion and a sprained left wrist. Also pain in chest cavity, breathing is not impaired.” I watched as they wheeled in two people on stretchers.

I caught sight of auburn hair and jumped up, “Fuck. Johnny, Berry’s, stay with the kids. Zack, Larry, come with me real quick.” I ran over to the Emergency Room trauma center with Zack and Larry hot on my tail.

“The fuck is going…” Zack started then saw exactly what I saw.

We stood frozen taking in the sight, “Female’s losing tremendous amount of blood, Male driver said she was pregnant. We need to do an ultrasound, see if we can find the heartbeat. Get her vitals, and if fetal distress is prominent do what we can, but give her some morphine. Also I want a head CT and abdomen CT.” The doctor stated running around Ember’s body. No, no, no…we can’t go through this again, she won’t make it out a second time.

“Wait…did they say pregnant?” I asked dumbfounded as Larry nodded wincing as he did.

“Male patient needs wrist splinted, I want a chest CT and EKG done, check for further brain damage,” the doctor said standing over Matt.

Zacky gently squeezed my shoulder, “Let’s go.” He lead us over to the rooms, I burst into the one with Ember as they started to set her up with one of the fetal heart monitors. The faintest heartbeat could be heard over the monitor and I released a breath that I didn’t know I had been holding.

“Sir, can we help you?” The doctor asked me.

“She’s my fiancé, Ember Sanders,” I told him.

He nodded at me, “You can stay, but we have to be able to treat her, do you understand sir?”

I nodded, “No problem there, I just want to make sure they’re okay. I hadn’t known she was pregnant.” I said softly gently placing a hand on her stomach.

Immediately Ember opened her eyes weakly and looked up, they still had her neck in a brace so I moved myself into her line of sight, “Bri?” She croaked out.

I gently took her hand, “Yeah I’m here babe.”

“Is the baby okay?!” She asked, coherence taking over as she tried to sit up.

The doctor and I caught her shoulders helping her lay back down, “So far Miss Sanders the baby looks to be okay, you were extremely lucky. The heartbeat’s barely there, but there’s still a heartbeat, we’ll have to watch the baby closely over night but at this moment, we’re fairly certain the baby is okay. For you, we’re going to run a few tests. You lost a lot of blood in the accident.”

She nodded slowly and looked up in my eyes, “It was Casey.”
