My Brothers Bestfriend

We all sat around the kitchen table quietly. I kept my head down for the most part, only glancing at Jimmy ever now and again. Dad looked around at all of us then spoke up.
"well did someone die or something?" He asked with a chuckle at the end
"Jimmy looked up with a fork full of spaghetti in his mouth, dad looked over at him and chuckled, "or are you just hungry as usual?"
He looked at me and I caught him looking at me out of the corner of my eye, "Riles are you okay?"
I looked up at him not trying to have direct eye contact, "yea dad I'm fine I'm just tired" I rubbed my eyes.
Soon the awkwardness was over and everyone was done with dinner. Dad went off to his office and started doing paper work while Jimmy, Brian, and I started doing the dishes.
"good save little sis" Jimmy said rubbing the top of my head making my hair a mess, "he totally knew dude did you see the look he gave me?!" I panickly whispered, "chill, even if he did know he probably wouldn't care. That man smoked with me while I was younger then you" I rolled my eyes and put the last cup away. "Y'all get the rest I'm gonna go sit down somewhere"
Jimmy chuckled "whatever lightweight".
I went up to my bed, I looked at my clock and it read 5:57.

I woke up and looked around kinda confused. My head was pounding and it was 12:34. Great. I'd never get back to sleep. I got up and looked in my lightstand and grabbed a cigarette and put a hoodie on. No one knew I smoked, and honestly I didn't really like I did either. But it was just one of my bad habits I guess.
I snuck down the stairs quietly, making sure no one was awake. I snuck out the back door onto the patio in our backyard and sat under our tree. I got my phone out and started playing music and lit my menthol.
Suddenly a hand touched my shoulder which made me jump and twist around like someone was going to kill me.
"Hey relax relax it's just me" Brian said, I tried to hide the cigarette but there was no use.
"don't worry I won't tell" he said looking at it
"how'd you know I was out here?" I asked
he sat down next to me, "Well Riley you're really not that quiet. Plus I was on the couch, I saw everything. Even you stomping your toe trying to open the door" he chuckles and I looked down embarrassed
he must've saw that I was because he changed the subject, "so how come you smoke cigs but you've never smoked weed?"
"I've just never really been introduced to weed I guess. I mean I know what it is. Kinda. But I don't know I never really had a interest"
"hmm. That's understandable"
i took another puff of my cigarette. We sat in silence for a minute until he let out a long sigh.
"Christmas eve is tomorrow. Well today" he said with a smile
"yea don't remind me" I said rolling my eyes
"oh I think you'll like what Jimmy got you tho" he said smiling
"pleaseeee just give me a hint it's driving me insane!" I said slamming my fist down on the patio ground
he chuckled and shook his head "I can't and ya know it. You'll like it. Also, tomorrow night at dinner we're all gonna have a serious talk. It's mine and jimmys idea"
i looked at him confused "what's it about?"
"Nothing bad. Atleast I hope it won't be bad. I'm kinda nervous. But that's all I can tell you, you're gonna get me in trouble!" He said nudging my arm a little .
"ughhhhh why'd you even come out here you're gonna have my nerves shot"
"well. I came out here because I like talking to you. And because it's not safe out here alone. Especially for a pretty girl like you" I looked up at him and he was starring down at me with a smile.
