Turn The Other Way

Matt kept his eyes on her as she avoided eye contact. “Danie, what happened?” She shook her head and he looked at her.

“It’s kinda hard to talk about. I mean you had nothing to do with it really. It has to do with a few ex boyfriends is all.” Danie knew she was far from perfect. She wasn’t a model, but she was a normal woman. “Remember how I used to be super confident?” She asked and he nodded. “Well, when you guys were on tour after high school I was still with Brendon. He started to say things like ‘you could look like her if you would just not eat the crap you eat’ or he would say ‘you would look better if you would dress like her.’ That was when I realized he was cheating on me with the women he was comparing me too. So when we broke up part of me left too. Piss poor luck that it was the best part of me.”

“Babe, you’re the same woman you were then. Plus, you’re much better than that now! Look at you. You are the most gorgeous woman I have ever met! Remember when Zee started up VU?” She thought back.

“Yeah.” She said trying to see why he was bringing this up.

“You and Sloane modeled for him when he started it! You were chased for a year and a half by fans and other people wanting to have you guys model.” Danie looked at him. “You’re beautiful inside and out! You’re the most kick ass woman I know, and it is the reason I have had feelings for you since we were younger!” Danie wiped under her eyes and Matt wrapped his arms around her. “Better now?” He asked and she nodded. He placed a chaste kiss on her forehead and held her until they both fell asleep.


Sloane and Zacky laid in bed half asleep when the crash woke them up. Sloane looked at Zacky and he held a finger to his lips. “Sh.” He said and got up quietly walking to their bedroom door and quietly locked it. “Get into the closet.” He said quietly and she nodded. He grabbed their cell phones and turned them to vibrate. Sloane walked into the closet and he followed once he quietly closed the door and locked it. “I’m going to text Brian and have him call 911.” He whispered.

“Why don’t we just call 911?” She asked quietly. The noises got louder and closer, which only caused Sloane’s heart rate to accelerate.

“Okay.” He said and dialed. “Yes we have an intruder in our home.” Sloane stayed silent listening quietly to Zacky’s end of the conversation. “My name is Zachary Baker.” He gave the police the address. “We have an alarm system, but they somehow surpassed it.There was banging on their door and Sloane covered her mouth to keep herself from screaming. Tears streaming down her face. “Okay they are at our bedroom door….no we locked it when we heard the noise….yeah we are hiding in the locked closet. Thank you.” He hung up the call and text Matt, and then he wrapped his arms around Sloane. He began to gently rub her back, but that was stopped when there was a crash in their bedroom. He looked over to his side of their massive closet. He grabbed his baseball bat and stood up quietly. He pointed to the large hamper that was with them. Sloane nodded and climbed into it.

“Police! Put your hands up!” He heard some commotion and then a silent knock on the door. “Mr. Baker you are safe to come out now.” Sloane popped out of the hamper and walked to Zacky. He held her hand and opened the door. “Do you know this person?” The officer asked. Sloane looked up and saw a drunk Johnny.

“You fucking gnome!” She said and punched him.

“What the fuck is going on?” He asked. “I just got here and your door was wide fucking open.”

“You can uncuff him officer. This is one of our best friends.”

“The door was wide open?” The officer asked as he uncuffed him. Johnny nodded and rubbed the side of his face where Sloane had decked him. Zacky looked at Sloane and wrapped his arm around her comfortingly. “Any idea why anyone would do this?” The officer asks causing Sloane to sigh.

“They are in a band, and the fans can get crazy. We have never had this happen before.” She said and looked at the guys.

Matt looked at a sleeping Danie as his phone went off. He sighed and shifted slightly causing Danie to groan in response to his movements.

‘Someone broke in. Johnny’s drunk ass almost got arrested.’ There was a picture of Johnny cuffed on the floor. He chuckled and Danie rubbed her eyes.

“Hey sweetie. Did I wake you?” He asked and Danie nodded.

“Yes, and I need coffee. What time is it?” She asked reaching for her black thick rimmed glasses.

“Six thirty. I’ll go make a pot of coffee get changed. We will head over there and then I will take you to your interview.” He said kissing her head. Since this whole Miranda deal he hasn’t let her out of his sight, not that she minded. Danie got out of bed and walked to the bathroom and turned on the shower. She took her glasses off and grabbed her toothbrush. She started to brush her teeth while the shower was running. Matt came in with a coffee and set it down. He then went in search of the spare toothbrush he left there. He began to brush his teeth while Danie undressed and hopped in the shower. He smirked to himself after he brushed his teeth.

“Wanna conserve water?” He asked and Danie smirked at him as he stepped into the shower.

“No funny business! We have to hurry over to Sloane’s and then I have to get to work.” She said and he kissed her and pushed her against the shower wall. He pinned her arms above her head with one hand. Danie moaned into the kiss as his hand began to travel down her body. He found her core and began to rub it in a slow motion causing her to moan louder causing him to release her hands. He moved down to her neck and down towards her core where he began to lick and suck. She moaned loudly and put her hands on his head just as she was about to climax he moved away and began to wash himself.


Danie stared at him in awe. “What the fuck Matthew!” She said in frustration. He smiled his usual dimpled smile at her. “No way in hell is that smile going to get you off the hook this time.” He kissed her again.

“That my dear was just a taste of what is waiting when you get off work today.” He said with a wink. She rolled her eyes and finished washing up and hopped out of the shower. She dried off and walked to the bedroom. She grabbed a pair of black skinny jeans, a black form fitting Metallica shirt that she had cut up herself, and her plaid over shirt. She got dressed and when Matt walked out of the bathroom she went back in and put on some simple make up. She put her black VU beanie on and grabbed her glasses and coffee.

“For the shenanigans you owe me Starbucks.” She said as she grabbed her bag making sure she had her recorder, notebook, laptop, and her pens.

“Deal babe.” He kissed her head and they walked to the kitchen where Danie put her empty Ninja Turtles mug next to the coffee pot. He smiled as he watched her walk to the closet in the hallway to grab a pair of black combat boots. “Jesus, you’re one beautiful woman. I am one lucky man.” Danie looked over her shoulder as she began to put her shoes on and winked at him. She finished up and he opened the door for her. She followed him outside and to his truck.

“Matt, I am happy you’re with me. I mean it almost feels like we have been together for much longer than this though.” She said as Matt reversed out of her driveway.

“Because we may have well been dating even back then.” She smiled as they drove to the closest Starbucks. Matt pulled up to the curb and they ran in really fast ordering the coffees and she even ordered a muffin for her and Sloane. This caused Matt to roll his eyes.

“That will be….twenty seven dollars and thirty five cents.” Danie looked at Matt as she eyed her muffin.

“What are you waiting for? Pay the man Jeeves!” She said causing him to roll his eyes. He swiped his card.

“Is it under Jeeves?” The guys at the counter asked causing Danie to snort with laughter. She couldn’t contain it. Matt just raised an eyebrow at her.

“No...it’s under Matt.” He said and wrapped his arm around his laughing girlfriend. Once they made it around the counter he looked at her as she was still laughing. “You sound like a dying seal. Why don’t you eat your muffin?” He said and she smacked his chest. Once the coffees had been collected they walked back to the truck and sped off down the street to check on their friends. “What time is you interview?” He asked as he pulled up to the house and she checked the calendar in her phone.

“Nine, and it is now seven thirty. So it works out.” She said as they got out of the truck. She saw the three of them sitting on the porch smoking a cigarette and handed Sloane her coffee. “Nice photo Seward.” She said with a smile and took a sip of her own coffee while Matt handed the other two theirs. She lit up a cigarette and smiled at her friends. “So someone broke in...Johnny almost got himself arrested...and you guys locked yourselves in a closet.” She said recapping while Sloane just nodded. “Sounds like an awesome morning.” She said with a shrug as she inhaled the toxins and blew them out.

“She’s just cranky because she didn’t get any.” Matt said and Danie rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out at him.

“So are we still on for today?” Sloane asked Danie as she took a sip of her coffee.

“Yeah I have my interview at nine and then when it is over I will call you. I will grab you afterwards.” Then she smacked her forehead. “After Matt takes me home for my car.” She said and he smiled.

“Or you can just leave me here afterwards and go do your thing and take the truck.” He said and she thought about it.

“Sounds good to me.” She said and looked at Sloane. “So what happened.” Sloane began to tell her everything that was going on. Danie listening intently and nodding. “Dude what if it were Miranda?” She asked and everyone stopped their conversations.

“We brought that up to the cops.” Zacky said and Johnny nodded. There was a bruise forming on the small man’s face.

“Dude she fucked your shit up gnomeo!” Danie said laughing and everyone looked at him. The laughter finally died down after a bit and Danie remembered the Lemon Poppyseed muffins in the truck. “Babe! I left the muffins in the truck!” She whined and he laughed and grabbed them for her. She handed one to Sloane who bowed with appreciation. They all went back to talking before Danie groaned.

“Time to go.” Matt said putting his hand out to help her up. “We’ll be back in a little while.” He said to their friends and Danie nodded.

“Who are you interviewing?” Sloane asked and Danie smirked.

“Framing Hanley.” She said and Sloane’s mouth dropped.

“Dude you’re kidding right?” Danie shook her head as she walked to the truck. “Details bitch!” She yelled and Danie waved her off and got into the truck. Matt got in and looked at her.

“What’s with this band?” He asked his girlfriend. He had heard some of their songs but didn’t think anything of it when it was always playing.

“They are on the rise and their fanbase is growing. So, AMP wanted me to interview them.” She said as she took the last sip of her coffee. Matt pulled up to the little cafe that the interview was being held at. “Thanks babe.” She said kissing him.

“So when should I pick you up?” He asked her as he brushed some bangs from her face.

“Two hours?” She said and he nodded.

“I’ll be here.” He said and gave her a chaste kiss. “Hey, be careful okay? Miranda is still out and about.” He said and that made her raise her eyebrow.

“You’re worried because Miranda? Is that why you have been around so much?” She asked and he shook his head.

“Yes, I am worried about you. You may be her target Dee. I’m spending time with you because I love you. Not because of some crazy bitch.” He said and Danie felt her heart flutter.

“I love you, too Matt. I gotta get in there.” She said and kissed him. “I’ll text you when I am done.” He nodded and as she exited the truck he smacked her butt causing her to laugh. “Behave Mr. Sanders.” She said and blew him a kiss. She shook her head as she walked into the cafe. She spotted the band and smiled.

“Danie!” Kenneth said and Danie hugged him.

“Hey buddy!” She said as she released him. “So is it just you today?” He nodded.

“Yeah the guys were drunk still. Did I see you hugging M. Shadows from Avenged?”

“Yeah I am dating him.” She said and he smiled.

“Well damn. There goes my chance.” He said with a wink causing her to laugh.

“We have been together for like forty-eight hours. Feels like longer though.” She said and he laughed. “Well, let’s get to it then.” She said as she pulled out the items she was going to need. She grabbed her notebook and pen as well to keep track of his mannerism.


Matt pulled up to his house to grab some belongings since he had been staying at Danie’s for so long. When he walked up to the door he noticed it was cracked open. He pushed it a little bit and walked into the foyer. “Hello?” He said hoping it was just Jimmy being drunk and forgot to close his door. There was no answer so he pressed the call button for Brian. “Hey are you at my house?” He asked into the phone after the first ring.

“No. Jimmy, Short Shit, and I are Johnny’s drinking. Why?”

“My door is open and I know I closed it a couple days ago.” He said and that caught Brian’s attention.

“Call the cops. We will be there in five. Is Danie with you?”

“No, she is at an interview with that Kenneth guy.” He said and walked back out of the foyer and to his truck.

“Call the cops.” He said and hung up. Matt felt like he would be a pussy for calling the cops but did it anyways.

“Yeah, hi, My name is Matthew Sanders and I came home to my front door being open.” He said and grabbed one of Danie’s cigarettes that was in his car. “Of course I closed and locked it. I’m not incompetent.” He lit it and took a drag. “Listen I wouldn’t normally make a big deal about this but there is someone after my friends because my dumbass best friend broke up with her. She vandalized his home and tried to kill herself. Listen long story short she may be the one that broke into my house.” He said and continued to listen then gave his address to the lady on the phone. When he hung up Brian pulled up.

“Well?” He asked and Matt rolled his eyes.

“They are on their way.” Not even five seconds later a cop pulled up with back up. They went in and checked out the house.

“Sir do you want to come in and let us know if anything is missing?” Matt nodded and walked in. He looked around and then saw the disaster his pictures were in. They were all pictures of Danie. One had her face crossed out and another she had been torn out of it. “Sir?” The man asked.

“Listen this may be stupid, but...I think whoever did this is after my girlfriend.” He said and handed the pictures to the officer.

“You said someone vandalized you home?” He asked Brian and he nodded.

“Yeah my ex-girlfriend. She is crazy and hates Danie.” He responded to the officer.

“Well, we are going to patrol the neighborhood until she is caught. Mr. Sanders where is your girlfriend right now?”

“She is a journalist and is in an interview with a guy from a band right now for a magazine. I know where she is and I am going to pick her up in…” He looked at his watch and groaned. “Thirty minutes.” He said and looked at the guys.

“I’ll go get her.” Brian offered and Matt nodded.

“She is at the cafe she likes to go to for her interviews.” He responded and Brian nodded.

“Want me to bring her here?” He asked and Matt nodded.

“Yeah tell her I was cleaning my place. Don’t say anything else about this. We have to go to Zee’s a bit.” He replied.

“Got it big guy.” He said and walked away. Johnny started to follow.

“Short shit you’re staying with us.” Jimmy said and Johnny groaned.

“Syn dates the crazy bitch that wants to kill one of us and he gets out of cleaning. Why can’t I go?” He asked.

“Because we need a virgin to sacrifice.” Jimmy said with a shrug causing the guys to laugh. The cops just stared at the group of men.

“I’ll be back shortly.” He said and got into his car.



“Thanks again Kenneth! This is going to be amazing!” She said and hugged him when they stepped outside.

“Anytime Dee!” He said and kissed her cheek. “Listen we are doing a music video for Lollipop soon. Wanna be in it? You and Sloane obviously.” He said and Danie smiled at him.

“Sure I would love to! I’ll talk to Sloane when I get to her place. We are finishing the wedding planning today.”

“You’re getting married?” He asked with shock causing Danie to laugh.

“No! Sloane and Zacky are.” He smiled at her and nodded.

“Okay, well, call me when you have an answer.” He said and walked away from her.

“Who’s the pretty boy?” Brian asked her making her jump.

“Kenneth from Framing Hanley. Where is Matt?” She asked.

“Cleaning. I was told to grab you since I was over here running errands. Do we need to stop anywhere?” He asked as he opened her car door.

“Yeah I need coffee and need to go back to my place to grab something for Sloane.” She said which caused Brian to nod.

“Well miss you’re in luck. I am your taxi.” This made Danie suspicious.

“Haner, what is really going on?” She asked before she got into the car.

“Nothing.” He said with a shrug. Danie rolled her eyes and grabbed one of his nipples between two fingers and twisted. “OW! FUCK!” He said.

“Now tell the truth.” She said and when he didn’t open his mouth she twisted harder.

“JESUS FUCK! OKAY! OKAY!”
