Turn The Other Way

Danie and Matt had decided on going to his place. Danie didn’t mind it, because truth be told she knew Miranda wasn’t after Brian. She was after her and Sloane. Miranda was a crazy bitch, and the whole group knew that. She knew that since she didn’t get what she wanted from him she was going to do whatever it took to get it.

Matt unlocked his house and Danie followed him inside. He turned on a lamp and looked at her. “Would you like some coffee?” He asked and she nodded her head. He went to the kitchen and she followed him. She knew that he was only trying to make this transition easier for the both of them. They had both wanted this for years and they were a little wired with nerves. Danie had a bunch of what-ifs running through her mind. She sat down on the counter in his kitchen watching him. She studied every single move he made. “Okay, you’re kinda creeping me out. What is running through that pretty head of yours?” He asked and Danie sat there still watching him.

“I’m worried is all.” She said and he looked at her. “Not because of psycho slut, but because...well…” She paused while she tried to find the right words. “I don’t want things to change between us is all.” She said as she examined his face. She watched him while he watched her. His face was hard to read as she searched him for some sort of reaction. “Matt, you’re mine and I don’t want to be that girl y’know?” Danie was still watching him for a reaction. He handed her a mug of coffee with a sigh.

“You’re much more than that girl. You’re my girl and always have been. Have you not noticed that I haven’t dated since our hook up?” Danie shrugged and this time it was his turn to gauge her reaction. He knew she had low self-esteem, but he never thought that she would think he would intentionally hurt her. “You’re what I have wanted since we were in high school. I don’t want anyone but you.” He said setting his coffee down and kissing her lightly. “Have I not proven that?” He asked and before she could respond he continued. “You and I can have what our two best friends have. We can maintain our friendship and still have romance. Just think of this as a step forward.” He said with a dimpled smile, which caused Danie to smile lightly.

“Why do you always know how to make me feel better?” She asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Because you’re my girl and I have known you for almost twenty years.” He said and kissed her lightly. “Now should we go get changed and watch a movie on the couch all day?”

“Depends, do you have my favorite snack?” She asked with a smile.

“I have your junk food drawer stocked.” She kissed him quickly and looked at him after hopping off the counter.

“Are you coming to change or what?” She asked as she took her shirt off dropping it on the floor on her way out. Matt moved faster than he thought he could while removing his shirt. Danie made it to the stairs before she could get her pants off. Matt reached her and put her over his shoulder. Danie let out a shriek of surprise and then a giggle. Once he reached his bedroom he kicked the door shut behind them. He then gently dropped her on the bed. She just started laughing harder which resulted in a snort.

Matt smiled at the sight in front of him. Danie lying in his bed laughing without a shirt on. He stared at her memorizing the moment. The way her hair looked. The way she smiled. The sound of her laugh. He wanted to keep this memory, because it was the happiest day of his life. She looked at him. “What’s up creepy?” She said leaning up on her elbows with a smile. He smiled back.

“Remember sophomore year of high school?” Danie groaned.

“Ugh if it’s about my terrible hair forget this conversation.” She muttered causing Matt to laugh.


Fall 1996:

The group sat in the quad waiting for the bell to ring. Matt watched as Danie and Sloane walked up to them. He couldn’t keep his eyes off her. She had dyed her hair black over the summer while she and Sloane went to Maine to visit Sloane’s family. She had red lips and she had her eyes lined with thick black eyeliner. She looked like an angel to him.

“Matt? Did you hear me?” She said breaking him from his thoughts.

“Sorry I’m tired. I guess I zoned out.” He said with an embarrassed laugh. Danie shook her head.

“There is going to be a party tonight. Are you going?” She said again and Matt just shot her his dimpled smile.

“Of course I am. Why do you want a ride?” He asked and she laughed.

“I was going to walk because it’s down the street from my house.” She said smugly causing him to roll his eyes. Jimmy watched the interaction with a wide smile. When Danie walked away with Sloane Jimmy turned to him.

“Dude you got it bad!” He replied causing Matt to raise an eyebrow.

“What the fuck are you going on about?” He asked and Jimmy smiled at him.

“You want Dee and I know for a fact that it will happen for sure.” He said with a shit eating grin, which caused Matt to roll his eyes. “Dude you can deny it but I saw you eye fucking her. SHe looks good.” He said causing Matt to look at him.

“Dude, back up. That’s our best friend you’re talking about.”

“Yet you don’t deny eye fucking her.” Brian says and Zacky laughs. “What are you laughing about? You got caught making out with Sloane last night.” Matt looked over.

“Is that so?” Matt says. “Did anything else happen?” He asked while wiggling his eyebrows.

“No. We are casual.” He says as the bell rings. “Gotta go. I have home room with Sloane.”

“You’re so whipped already bro.” Jimmy says and Matt laughs. Brian just rolls his eyes at the other guys. “Dude here comes the gnome!” Johnny sighs once he hears his loud friends.

“Guys come on.” He groans as Jimmy picks him up and walks towards the school with Brian messing with his hair. Matt and Jason Berry smiling at the sight.

“So.” Jason says. “Saw you eye fucking Danie.” Matt groans.

“I wasn’t eye fucking her JB. I was spaced the fuck out because I couldn’t sleep last night.” Matt replies. “Besides it’s none of your damn business.” Matt said with a smirk on his face. When they arrived to the class rooms they were in they split up. Danie and Matt were in the same class, American History. “Well look who it is.” He said with a smirk as he sat next to Danie.

“Oh Jesus here we go.” She said as she pushed her hair out of her face and pushing her glasses up a bit.

“I will pick you up tonight for the party.” He said.

“The fuck you are. I don’t trust you behind the wheel of a car.” She said with a smirk. He felt himself smile. He knew deep down he needed her, but did he want to mess up the years of friendship that they had.

“Well, I guess we will see.” He said with a smirk and wink. Danie smirked back and felt her face heat up a bit.

“Not happening. I saw you almost flip the car at the end of last year.” She said and looked at the teacher as he began to speak.


Present:


Danie looked at him and he smiled at her. “What’s so funny Sanders?” She asked and he smiled at her.

“Your hair wasn’t that bad.” He said and bent down and kissed her. She wrapped her hands in his hair and pulled him closer. Before things could get heavy they were interrupted by Danie’s cell phone. “Ignore it.” Matt said as he went to her neck. She couldn’t concentrate on the moment. She moved a bit which caused Matt to groan in pleasure which made her smirk. Without looking at the screen she answered it.

“This better be fucking good.” She said as Matt moved back to her neck.

“Dude, can you come over?” She heard Sloane say.

“Depends can you say the phrase cock block?” She retorted causing Sloane to groan.

“I’m sorry dude. I just really need you right now.” Danie pushed Matt off her lightly and started to gather her clothing.

“Text Matt an IOU for a night of the whole group not to cock block.”

“I will!” She said and hung up. Danie looked at Matt.

“This has to be a joke right?” He said causing Danie to sigh.

“No she sounded panicked.” This caught Matt’s attention.

“I’ll go with you.” He said as he grabbed his clothes as well and followed her to his BMW. He stopped and opened the door for her. “To be continued?” He asked and Danie nodded and kissed him. She got in the car and sat there biting her nails. If Sloane was calling it must be bad.
