In the Shadows

Being the Shadow

Matt’s POV

I hadn’t planned on going to this party, hadn’t felt like partying at all. But then again I was here, for my friends, because they insisted that I had to come. And as normally I couldn’t say no to them in the end, hearing their talks about ‘everybody will be there’, ‘You gotta come Shads that’s gonna be legendary’ and more of that, they were getting so on my nerves that in the end I told them I would be there.

Now I stood in the corner, getting my hands on the whiskey bottle and having a look at the party people around me. The music was loud and metal, just how I liked it. My friends were laughing and playing stupid drinking games.

I had watched from afar, I wasn’t up to much of the playing around lately. I felt a need inside of me but I didn’t really know for what. A need that I had to fulfill but with what… or was it rather with whom?

I shook my head, my thoughts playing a trick on me again. “Hey Matt! You came!?” Zack yelled over the music clinking his glass to mine. I nodded at him, lifting my drink and taking a long swig of it, letting the alcohol for a second in my mouth, letting the taste register fully and then the feeling of the exquisite whiskey burn down my throat.

I closed my eyes in pure bliss as I could feel exactly how the drink was making its way down my mouth, throat and into my stomach. The burn evident and yet so pleasant that I needed more. I refilled right away and noticed that Zack had already left my side again.

I wasn’t up for talking much tonight anyway, I was here to show my friends I cared and for the alcohol and that was about it and all I had planned for this night to go down.
“Get him! Shads! GET HIM!” Jimmy flew past me and I looked after him, Johnny was running away from him, and out the door into a group of people that just arrived. I shook my head at the pair and went back to nursing my drink and letting that be my only problem of today.
I wandered out the door and stayed in the Shadows watching the whole party from there. I watched how people started to drink and dance, how their behavior changed with the influence of alcohol.

When my drink was empty again, I finally decided to head back inside. I walked to the kitchen and poured me another drink, when I heard a female voice and laugh behind me. I frowned not knowing who it belonged to. Normally I knew all the party people around, but this sounded totally unknown. Who was that?

I turned around and saw Zack and Brian standing with a group of women I haven’t seen before. “I know… my friend Kay just heard about the party. Jimmy invited us couple of days ago, so we thought to have a look on what’s going on” A woman with blonde hair said and I walked a little closer, still holding enough distance for them not to notice me right away.

“Good choice, Kay” Brian leaned closer to one of the women and she gave off a small laugh. “Thought the same” She winked at him and I took a closer look at the group.

She hadn’t been the one that got my attention, I knew it right away “So Jimmy invited you?” Zack asked the two remaining, when Brian had wandered off with Kay, pulling her close for a dance as it seemed, or a lame excuse for a dance, where he was just groping her.

I walked around the group still in the shadows so none of them would spot me. Zacky had their full attention anyway, which gave me the opportunity to have a closer look.
They looked hot as hell, but one of them even better than the rest, I could say without a doubt, this was the woman I heard earlier.

I felt something inside me twitch when I took in her appearance, from her styled hair to her perfectly applied make-up, not too much and still looking like a model from the runway. Her long legs in that tight skirt that looked like they would go on for miles in those high heeled shoes.

I licked my lips, when her voice sounded, my eyes snapped up to look at her face again. How she lit up when she spoke made my eyes stay with her, she laughed again and my heart beat a little faster, her eyes were on Zack and this weird feeling of jealousy was brewing inside of me towards my best friend that I never felt before.

I narrowed my eyes on them and took a step closer, not really able to stop myself before I was behind the group and to be exact, to be standing only inches behind the woman that got my attention right away.

I inhaled deeply and leaned a little down, my fingers itched to brush her hair away from her shoulder and get myself a taste from her. Let my tongue glide over her shoulder and then nibble on her skin, let my teeth slowly glide over before nipping at her, then kissing it better-

“Hey Shads, you decided to take part in the talk?” Zack’s voice interrupted my thoughts and I looked up meeting Zack’s glinting eyes. He smirked and I locked my jaw, I didn’t want to be discovered already, wanted to take in some more of her before I would reveal myself.

The women turned around at Zack’s voice and I stood almost toe to toe to the woman I had just fantasized about.

“Ladies, this is Matt or M. Shadows… as you might know him. Matt these are our latest guests, Hollie-” After that I didn’t hear anything else because he mentioned the beauties name that stood right before me first and the others just didn’t interest me.

She smiled at me shyly her eyes meeting mine briefly before taking a small step back to get a better look at me. I smiled at her and took the step forward again, she gasped, quietly. I could see it, her lips parted and she looked a little overwhelmed.

Her friends as well as Zack had left following after Syn and the other woman, who I didn’t see any more at all.

I inclined my head to the side, watching the woman before me closely, my eyes never leaving her.

“Can I get you a drink?!” I asked her and she looked around as if unsure if I meant her, but who else would I be talking to?
“I-I… no thanks. I’m the driver and I need to see where my friend went to” She gave me a weak smile before taking another step away from me.

I watched her put more distance between us and felt the need to follow her. The need I was thinking about earlier was getting stronger, the need to make her stay and make her mine almost overwhelming.

But I stopped myself not wanting to scare her away, even though it took everything in my power to do just that.

The party went on and I could keep my distance from her, but followed around the group of friends. I watched her like a hawk, not even able to keep away for too long. I saw how she looked around, did she feel my presence just as I felt hers.

Didn’t she feel the same need, which was eating at me? How could she not? When it was almost too much to bear for me?!

It’s been about a week that I had been at the party. But the woman wouldn’t leave my mind, and it wasn’t some crush that would go away with time.
I had known this from the moment I had laid my eyes on her, the moment I heard her melodic laughter, smelled her perfume, saw her exquisite attire.
I knew there was more, I knew I needed more, so I didn’t let go… wouldn’t let go, because she wouldn’t let me go either.

She was running around in my head all day, all night. She was invading my thoughts by day, she was invading my dreams by night.
No matter what I did, there she was, so it was only my right to bring myself back into her thoughts, right?

I found out her full name and address. I got her phone number, tried to call but she wouldn’t pick up, probably not wanting to talk to someone with an unknown number, clever woman. But I knew that already, didn’t I?!

I stood in the doorframe of her neighbor’s house, watching her entrance; she was leaving every morning on the same time. She always looked stunning, when the sun was shining bright she wore sunglasses, when it looked like rain she had a coat and an umbrella with her.

She didn’t take her car, if she didn’t have to. Was gladly walking distances by foot, even in high heels.
I didn’t see a man coming or leaving her apartment, giving me some relief knowing she wasn’t in a relationship as far as I could tell.

Her door opened, just at the right time, she was working like clockwork, today was sunny, so she put her sunglasses on. I let her get a head start before I followed her. I kept a good distance between us, eyeing her up and down, seeing how her ass moved in rhythm to her steps, how her hair was blown by the wind around her shoulder, letting me catch a small cloud of her perfume.

Addicting just as the women itself, when she turned around, probably noticing that someone was behind her, I kept in the shadows of the building, letting other people pass me, so she wouldn’t see me right away.

When she stopped, I put my hood over my base cap and passed her, trying to glimpse why she would have stopped. She had her phone in hand, smiling and I instantly felt jealous of the person getting that reaction from her.

I wanted that smile, wanted it for me and no one else. I stopped at a door and let her walk past me again, debating if I should just grab her and corner her against the next entrance, show her with all my body the need that I was feeling, how I could make her feel good, coax a moan form her beautiful plump lips, how I would get a satisfied smile from her when I was done.

I balled my hands to fists, remembering how she acted at the party towards me. Shy and distanced, not once did she give me another chance to talk to her.
She had looked at me, oh yeah, she did. But she didn’t make a move, turned away whenever I got near.

She was sending mixed signals and I didn’t know how I could convince her in playing along with my game, how I could make her mine without scaring her away, so all I had left was being her Shadow, keeping her in sight and keeping her away from any danger.

I gave her two more days before I would make a move, I was spread too thin, needed the contact. I had made myself more visible to her every now and then, and I saw her looking at me, but she never approached, never started a talk.

I made it look like we met by accident, when I had her schedule in my head already, engraved if you will. I thought she would be more willing to make a move too, but either she wasn’t interested or she was pushing me away for a reason.

But for me no reason was good enough for her to stay away, or for me to keep my distance from her.
I wanted what, I wanted and I would get it, not matter what, no matter the consequences.

I saw her walking into the supermarket and quickly followed, I rushed into a different direction and looked at the upper rag to busy myself, when I knew she was coming closer I turned around and let us bump together.

Only feeling her for this split second made electricity shoot right through me. Damn, what would it feel like if I had her in my bed, or against the next wall, finally?!

“Shit, I’m sorry, I-” She stuttered and then looked up, I had my hands on her waist to steady her and looked into the face that I had been watching from the distance for days, but up this close it felt way better.

“No problem… Haven’t we met before?” I let my voice sound deep and smooth. She licked her lips and swallowed, her throat working and I almost couldn’t hide the desire that was building up inside of me.

“Yes… Matt, right? I’m Hollie.” She said and was about to take a step back, but I was still holding her. I gave her a small nod “How could I forget your name, Hollie” I winked at her and her cheeks flushed a nice red.

I wondered how much more I could make her flush with the things I wanted to do to her. Would she like me talking dirty? Would she run from me? Or better try to run? Or was she into some other kinky stuff?
I couldn’t wait to find out!

“How about we go out sometime? Monday?” I asked and wouldn’t let her go before I had the answer that I wanted to hear.
“Monday?” She frowned looking confused then started shaking her head “That is Halloween isn’t it?” She asked and I nodded, yes indeed.

“I can’t, my friend Kayla, she invited me already to her Halloween party.” She replied and another blush formed on her cheeks. I bite my bottom lip thinking about her words for a second. “You are going alone to that party?” I asked and her eyes widened.

“I-I… well yes. It’s just us girls as far as I know. I’m sorry… maybe we meet some other time? I mean… If you still want? But I really gotta go, I have an appointment in a bit…” She wiggled out of my grip and before I could say anything else, she vanished and for that day, I couldn’t find her anymore.
