Intoxicated

3/?

Sam was thankful Matt could still walk on his own. He was a big man and she wouldn't have been able to help him if he couldn't. The room numbers counted down until they were at his room.

“I need the key.”

Matt scoffed and swayed slightly. “You gotta find it, baby. I’ll give you a hint, it’s in my pants.”

She remembered Brian saying it was in his wallet with a quick pat on his backside she found the lump in his pocket.

“That wasn't as fun as I planned,” Matt was a little disappointed as she swiped the keycard.

Pushing the door open she walked him inside. “I think you're a little too drunk for anything like that.”

Matt stumbled to the bed as she closed the door, sitting on the bed with a heavy plop. “I’m just drunk enough. Besides, that's what you came here for.”

She felt a stab in her stomach at his words. “No Matt, that’s not why I came here.”

“Sure it is.” He reached, grabbing her hand and pulling her to him. “It took some convincing, but you came.”

“You’re drunk.”

“Yeah, I am,” he laughed. “But I wasn't when I asked you to come out here.”

Sam ignored him. “We should get you in bed so you can sleep this off.”

“Only if you're sleeping with me.”

Sam bit on her bottom lip. This wasn't how this was supposed to go. Why did he have to get so drunk?

“I don't think that’s a good idea.”

Matt let go of her hand, standing abruptly and swaying slightly before steadying himself. “Why did you come if you weren't going to stay with me?”

Sam felt another stab. What he meant was, why did she come if she wasn't going to have sex with him? Her fears about him were being realized and she felt stupid for letting herself think she could be anything other than a rebound.

Sam and Matt first met three years ago at a mutual friend's wedding. Both were in the bridal party and were paired together. They had gotten to know each other, but only platonically. Matt was a married man. They saw each other every few months at various parties. They were always friendly but never anything more.

At one party Sam had accidentally walked in on Matt and his wife having an argument. She quickly apologized and excused herself. Later that night Matt found Sam and apologized if they had made her uncomfortable, then told her his wife had left the party and that he needed a ride home.

On the drive Matt revealed that they were getting a divorce, the basic reasoning that he and his wife were no longer in love. Sam was quiet, assuming his loose lips were a result of alcohol. It seemed like he needed to vent, so Sam let him.

Overtime their friendship grew closer. Sam was a confidant, someone he could talk to and feel no judgement. She always kept her emotions at a distance. She wasn't going to let herself fall for a man going through a divorce. She was not going to be a cliche.

Yet here she was. Head over heels.

Nothing happened between the two, not even a kiss. Sam didn't want to be the rebound; the one that helped him with his emotional baggage just to be shit on in the end. Everything seemed to be going fine until a few months ago.

Matt became more apparently flirty, asking to do more things together, even asking her to go to functions exclusively with him. Sam always politely declined. She wanted her distance and that meant keeping herself a hidden part of his life. They rarely went out together and she never attended anything with him that she knew his bandmates would be at. That was just playing with fire.

Matt caught on.

He guilted her into taking a ‘girls trip’ to the same location as one of his tour dates. He told her she would spend most of the time with her friends, but they would spend time alone together. Sam took a big leap by saying yes. She knew she could end up burned, and with how he was acting she was beginning to feel it.

“What did you think was going to happen, Matt?”

He didn't know how to answer. He knew what he wanted to have happen. Matt envisioned his night being spent with his friends, having a few drinks and gambling, then going to his room and spending the rest of his evening with Sam. Would he like to have sex with her? Yes, but it wasn't a necessity. He just wanted to be with her. It had been quite some time since he had felt excited about being with someone.

“I didn't ask you to come here to fuck.” He saw her untense slightly. He knew that's what she was thinking.

Her arms uncrossed, relaxing at her side and not looking so defensive. “Good.”

“I wanted you here to spend time together away from all the bullshit in my life. I don't want you to think I keep you around so I have someone to complain to.”

“It’s not complaining. You're going through a lot.” And Matt appreciated every second that she was there for him.

“I can't say I wouldn't have sex with you if you wanted.” He felt himself harden watching her bite on her bottom lip. He wasn't stupid, he knew there was sexual tension between them. “But you’re right, I am in no state to be doing that.”

Sam remembered that Brian was going to be coming to Matt’s room and that he didn't know about her other than being a stranger he left his friend in the care of. She wanted to keep it that way for now.

“You should call Brian.” Matt quirked an eyebrow. “He’s supposed to come here to check on you. I don't want to explain to him why the random girl from the elevator is staying with his friend.”

Matt chuckled as he pulled out his phone. She really didn't want people knowing about them.

Brian answered quickly, the tone in his greeting not very pleasant. “I’m about to head up to your room.”

“You don't have to. I’m all good, thanks man.”

“The girl still with you?”

“No, she left.” Sam’s eyes met his. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow. I’m gonna go sleep this off.”

“Alright man, later.”

The two hung up and Matt set his phone on the bedside table, turning the ringer off so there wouldn't be any distractions.

“Happy?”

She smirked at him. “For the time being.”

Sam watched as his hands went behind his head, pulling his shirt off to reveal his bare chest. His hands began working on his belt and she felt herself get warm.

“What are you doing?”

“I smell like booze,” he nonchalantly disposed of his pants, leaving him in just his boxers. “And a shower will help sober me up.”

“Okay.” There wasn't much else to say, she was too busy checking him out.

“Joining me?” He grabbed two towels from the closet.

“Matt-”

“No sex,” he cut her off. “Consider it more like life guard duty. Keep my drunk as from slipping.”

“Well,” she took her blazer off, “when you put it like that…”

Can't help but wonder what Matt's reaction is going to be when he goes to room 1072 and gets no response. It sucks that Sam just left like that

Okay, I can totally see this coming off as a full story :D
She refused Matt, that's unexpected :o
And now she's leaving without informing him. I hope Matt gets to know about it soon!
