Truth or Deal.

06: Lips of Deceit

Avoiding Zack for the next few days at school was pretty tough, but not near as tough as avoiding Aaron. Since he found out I was single, there was almost no such thing as dodging him. I laughed to myself when a thought came to me. At least if I did start dating Zack I wouldn’t be single anymore and I could use that excuse against Aaron some more. I scolded myself, it wasn’t like that excuse ever worked before, and I doubted it would work better just because my boyfriend was here. If it ever came down to it I’m pretty sure Aaron could beat Zack into a pulp. Not because Zack was tiny, because he wasn’t, but because Aaron was so much bigger than Zack. I always had some sort of suspicion that Aaron was on some sort of steroid but that was only a rumor.

I knew I needed to figure out what I planned on doing, I knew I technically agreed to the deal with Matt but I wasn’t entirely sure I wanted to do it. In all honesty, I did have a good time with Zack when we ate pizza together, but did I see it going any further than that?

I walked to my car after school wrapped up in my thoughts. I didn’t realize I was being followed until I felt a pair of arms wrap around me and a kiss on my cheek.

“Hey, baby girl.” Aaron whispered.

“Aaron, what are you doing here, shouldn’t you be at practice or something?” I asked him. It wasn’t football season but I still hoped he had something to do.

He shrugged, “I wanted to see you, and I have something to ask you.” I raised my eyebrows but didn’t say anything. “Let me take you out Saturday.”

“That’s not a question,” I laughed slightly.

“Okay,” he grinned. “Can I please take you out on the best date of your life Saturday?”

I bit my lip and lied. “I’m sorry, Aaron, I already have plans.”

“Still playing hard to get, I see.” He groaned.

I saw Zack walking up to my car and panicked. “I have to get going but I’ll talk to you later, okay?” I got in my car and started it like I was about to leave. Aaron walked off, and instead of driving away I sat in my car for a second waiting for Zack to approach.

“Hey, Zachary,” I smiled.

“Hey,” he said, “I was beginning to think you were avoiding me.”

I shook my head, “No, I’ve just been busy. Do you want a ride?”

Zack looked around for a moment and nodded, “Yeah, if you don’t mind.”

I motioned for him to get in and when he did I put the car in reverse and began to drive home. “How come you don’t have a vehicle, anyways?” I asked.

He laughed slightly, “Well, I kind of made the irresponsible decision to sale my car so I could buy my guitar.”

“Oh, wow.” I laughed. He was right, it was a very irresponsible decision but I tried not to judge him.

Zack directed me to his house, and when we pulled up to it he didn’t get out immediately.

“Evelyn,” he said quietly, “can I ask you something without you freaking out or hating me or something?”

I looked at him confused, but nodded. “Yeah, okay.”

He took a deep breath, “We got along really well the other day at our little, er, pizza party,” we both lightly laughed at his choice of words.

“Yeah, we did.” I confirmed.

“I just…I don’t know, I was just wondering if…” He kept breaking his sentences up and I could help but think about how adorable he was when he was nervous. “Would you want to get dinner with me Saturday?”

“You mean as a date?” I asked him.

He chewed at his lip ring. “Or I mean as friends if you’d rather do it that way. I mean, I…” he began to fluster again.

I smiled, “Zack, I’d love to go on date with you.” The words came out of my mouth before I could stop them.

Zack's face lit up, “Okay, awesome, great.” He rubbed the back of his neck, “So, I’ll pick you up at like eight? I mean, you’ll probably have to drive but, whatever, you know what I mean.”

I laughed at him and nodded. “Sounds great.”

Zack nodded more to himself than to me. “Okay,” he opened the door and began to get out. “Thanks for the ride, Evelyn.”

“You’re welcome, Zack.”

I love that Evelyn is seeing Zee for who he truly is <3 She just needs to come clean with him, tell that she really wants to be with him, and fuck off her fake ass “friends”. GAH! They are just so damn CUTE together. She is totally falling for him. They are made of adorable!

Just started this fic. I really want to smack Evelyn upside the head. Shallow little twit! Grow up, girl! I feel awful her friend and boyfriend pulled that shit on her. Poor thing. But she needs to drop her preconceived bullshit notions, and her fake ass preppy friends... Zacky is so sweet! And adorable. And genuine. She needs to give him an honest chance. If she hurts him, I’ll throat punch her... *laughs*
