Truth or Deal.

“Really?” I asked him.

Zack smiled and pulled me into a hug, he gave me a light kiss on the lips when we broke apart.
“Evelyn, I’ve always felt strong feelings for you. I’ve never known what it was until recently. I love you. I just wish you’d stop beating me to the punches. First you ask me out and now you’re telling me you love me first? Maybe I should propose now so if and when the time does come for that to happen all you have to do is say ‘yes’!” I laughed and pressed my lips against his again.

“Can we go home?” I asked him, I just wanted to be alone with him.

“My place or yours?” He asked.

I shrugged, “I just want to be alone with you.”

Zack pulled my car into my driveway and we both got out and walked inside. “Are you hungry?” I asked him. “I can make something real quick.”

Zack shook his head and took my hand, leading me upstairs. When we got upstairs he took me into my bedroom and I closed the door. Zack laid on the bed, and I crawled in next to him. “Do you want to watch a movie or something?” He asked.

I shook my head, listening to his heartbeat. “Have you thought about what’s going to happen to us after graduation?”

Zack inhaled deeply and I could tell it was a subject that weighed on his mind. “Not really,” he lied.

“I have been a lot lately,” I admitted. “I’ll probably go to college, and I’m sure you’ll focus more on your band.”

Zack nodded, “That sounds right.”

“You think we’re still going to be together a year from now?” I asked.

“Yeah,” Zack said. “I do.”

After Zack went home that night, I slipped on my shoes and was about to head downstairs when the phone rang.

“Hello?” I answered.

“You told him you loved him, Evelyn?” Matt’s voice rang, “Are you fucking kidding me? That’s not a part of the deal! You’re really trying to destroy him, aren’t you?”

I shook my head, “What? No, Matt I…”

“I mean, I get it you guys have been dating for a few months, and I thought by now you would have actually started to like him by now, I guess I was wrong but you didn’t have to go and tell him you loved him, Evelyn.”

“Matt I…”

“Just stay away from him, okay? This was a mistake, I’ll do the rest of your homework for you if you just stay away from him if you don’t I’m going to tell him this was all just a fucked up plan. I just…” I rolled my eyes and laid the phone on my bed.

I walked out of my bedroom, down the stairs, out the front door and to Matt’s house. I checked to see if his parents’ cars were in the driveway and then, without knocking, walked into Matt’s house, up his stairs and into his bedroom where he sat with his back to the door.

“Matthew.” I stated, calmly. He jumped.

He looked at the phone, to me and then back at the phone. He hung up and stared at me, “What are you doing here?” He asked.

“Well, you wouldn’t let me get a word in edgewise over the phone, so I thought at least in person I could put a gag in so I could explain.” I told him, crossing my arms.

Matt smirked, “Well, Val’s really the one who likes the gag in the bedroom, but I mean, by all means continue.”

I stared at him for a moment, disgusted that he just shared that bit of information and then shook it from my mind. “I love Zack.” I stated.

Matt sighed, “Yeah, he told me you said you loved him when you…”

“No, Matt.” I shook my head, “I really love him, like for real.”

Matt started at me with a straight face for the longest time, and then smiled at me. “Really?” He asked, I nodded. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

I glared at him, “I tried! You wouldn’t shut your big mouth!”

Matt laughed, “Sorry, I was just so pissed when he told me that.”

“I was on my way over here to tell you the deal was off when you called me, you big dummy. I was just waiting on Zack to leave, what did he do call you before he was even out of my house?” I laughed.

“In all honesty, yeah probably.” Matt smiled, “I’m happy for you Evelyn.”

“Thanks, I am too.” I said. “Now I just have to find a way to explain to Zack that the last few months have been a lie.”

Matt shook his head viciously, “Don’t do that.”

“I can’t just act like the deal didn’t happen, Matt.”

Matt grabbed my shoulder and looked me in the eyes, “That’s exactly what you’re going to do.” He told me, “He would never forgive us if he found out the truth.”

“Oh and what if he finds out?” I ask, pulling away from him.

Matt threw his hands up in the air, “Who is going to tell him, Evelyn? I know this is a secret I’ll take to my grave whether you guys stay together or not. He is my best friend in the entire world, you know I don’t want to see him get hurt. He can’t know about this.”

I chewed on my lip and contemplated. The only people who knew the truth about me and Zack was me, Matt and Whitney. Could I trust them not to throw me under the bus if it came down to it?

“Okay, fine.” I told him.

Notes

Another chapter this weekend because this is super short and to be honest I don't even know why I considered it a chapter to begin with.

Evelyn finally broke the deal off with Matt with only two more chapters left! I can't wait for you guys to read the next two chapters! I have one chapter to write on another story, and then I'm going to get as many chapters as I can written for the sequel to this one. So, hopefully next weekend I'll feel comfortable enough to finish this one and post chapter one of the sequel.
